We raise bees here in NH. you're gonna love keeping bees. We had our hibes in 10x10 dog cage; bears completely destroyed cage... we now have solar powered electric fence

Hey Alex congrats on the beehives. Just one piece of advice. Wear your sock over the hem of the beekeeping suite. As a angery hive will find their way into your suite from the hem of the pants. Talking from experience lol.

I recieved my bees on May 6th. Very exciting accept I've drowned a few in a no drown feeder. I didnt start with nucs and my bees are building wax on 3 frames so far. I'll check them in 2 weeks n probably add a super...meanwhile I'm making a wild and sunflower meadow for them. I got a package of 10,000 and am in zone 7 (MD).

Hello Flower Guy! "That's good! Right!" Well, you got fire to the pine needles and dropped the needles to the bottom of your smoker. I hope that you had your fodder grate in the bottom of the smoker. The grate keeps the smoker fuel from the air entrance as you pump your bellows. Fire needs oxygen and you will be blowing the oxygen into the bottom of the smoker with the bellows. You were correct to get good hot, burning coals to the bottom. However, you have a professional grade smoker and properly lit you would be able to have smoke for hours! Immediately after you place those burning needles to the bottom and started pumping the bellows, you should have had a very tightly impacted ball of needles the size of a soft ball, to go onto the top of the burning needles and maybe follow that one with another to completely fill your smoker. The two tightly wound-about balls would do two things. The smoke would cool as it goes through the balls to the exit and act as a spark arrester so that you do not burn the wings off your bees! Bees respond to cool smoke. I saw a spray can. I'd bet a nickel that you spray painted your boxes! Do yourself a favor and use a brush to paint assembled boxes. The smell of spray has a tendency to settle on unpainted surfaces. And you have already guessed.......bees do not like the smell of paint. You mentioned level boxes. I think you have screened bottom boards. Level boxes are ok. However, when you close the bottom off at autumn you will need to elevate the back of the box by about fifteen degrees. You got the entrance correct.....to the east. You said something about not having to do as much work as you thought you had to do. Sometimes when you buy nucs, the seller will demand that you give him replacement frames. For example, when you take the frames with bees and honey out of the nuc you must replace the frame. Do you have to give the empty boxes back to the seller? Don't worry about being nervous. The bees are terribly forgiving. If you make a mistake, correct it as best you can and move on. All that's good and well is done just by patient trying. You're doing fine! Carroll

Alex, you are entertaining and educational! I would string 3 to 4 wires. Did ya test the wire? I grew up on a farm and we had electric fencing and my Dad would line all 5 of us kids, mom included, we all held hands and dad would the touch the wire and it would carry through to all of us. I never liked it!!

Ha ha I sure did test it. I should’ve put that part on the video. It was getting dark. I literally just grabbed it up real quick to make sure it had some juice!

Can you make some play lists. I like to support some KZbinrs by putting on a Playlist to run in the background while I get stuff done. It can be running and getting you view times.
