Ed, please have another go :) try some wild camping, get a little gas stove, do some cooking in the woods, the amount of time you pass in the woods doing simple tasks you'll need to do to have a good expierence, cutting and gathering fire wood, collecting from dead trees for wood, setting tents and tarpolin up, digging a fire pit, cooking breakfast dinner and tea from scratch, finding fresh clean water from springs,

You'll never be warm enough in just a sleeping bag, you need at least an air mattress, a couple of thick blankets and a sleeping bag, the worst of the cold actually comes from underneath.

The founder of modern recreational camping was Thomas Hiram Holding, who wrote the first edition of The Camper's Handbook in 1908. His urge to camp derived from his experiences as a boy: in 1853 he crossed the prairies of the United States in a wagon train, covering some 1,200 miles (1,900 km) with a company of 300.2

A popup tent is the only way to go. You take it out of the bag and it works like a pop-up storybook. Not sure how to make it small again but who cares, you can just leave it there when you're finished camping.

This video cracks me up! Glad you experience your 1st camp, just a few tips that i also learnt from the hard way too, is to go to bed warm and dry 100% get the best sleeping mat of some sort with good R rating, seeing that you must have slept on the floor? or if on airbed they dont keep your heat in hence why you were frezzing XD. Hope this hasnt put you off to camp again even though you said you wouldnt. But also glad u didnt slip and get wet!

I have to agree, I love all of the machinations of camping. I like the fire, making a shelter/den the knives, axes and of course given my channel the hunting. But for me on a ideal camping trip you sit drinking beers around the fire with your shelter until about 11pm then you'd scoot off to your room at the nearest premier inn!

We go camping every year and have done since we were kids. I will say , you need to be prepared for camping. Tinned food, veg, snacks , unperishables. A blanket, a sleeping bag or two, plenty of changes of joggers, socks and hoodies lol. If you pay for electric it's handy to bring an extention lead for chargers and camping gear like like a camping heater. Blow up bed. Me mum also has a camping fridge , kettle and gas cookers. It's certainly not a light holiday lol. We have a takeaway maybe twice but rest of the days we cook. As me mums gotten older she finds it easker in a caravan or motorhome. (Trailer in US). Camping is pretty expensive now, even the family holiday parks : hence why we don't go to them i.e haven , parc, butlins etc. We book the more remote ones with dog areas : we bring games etc to occupy ourselves, even the kids. Though now nearly all are family orientated now as kids are bored of rounders and card games. Lol. Some hate camping and some love it. Part of it comes down to if you ever did it growing up. The bugs are annoying but comes with the territory. Good video. Xx

Dib Dib Dib! Lots of kids doing their Duke of Edinburgh near me at the moment... I take a 4-person pop-up and a fisherman's bed (pillows/duvets) and get snug to music festivals... also a camping stove for tea/coffee/noodles/baked beans/sausages and plenty of booze/earplugs helps with sleeping. I can set up in 10 minutes... it's a faff and miserable to decamp. I once had to erect a 40-year-old's tent in the dark under headlights as he'd never done before ... bloody musicians!

Hi Ed. I used to go camping with the family when I was a kid, every school summer holidays and been all over England, I made loads of friends when I went, also never got bored was always something to do. My best place to camp was snowdonia loved it even the owner looked like Norman bates and had a creepy house on the hill, lmao he invited us to have dinner with but we had to decline who knows what he would have done lol 😆 Can I just say is that you totally took the wrong equipment with you, no wonder why u was cold, poor thing 😂

Aww, never say never - just, don't go by yourself the next time - it's always more fun with other wimpish campers, like me, for instance.... Mind you, it should probably be admitted at this juncture - last time I went camping, I ended up drying everything out in a luxury caravan - gas fire, central heating, constant hot water, nice pillows and duvets, comfy armchairs, DTV and all the cooking stuff you'd ever need... I do like the idea of tents but, maybe those days are gone....!!!
