The fact that you are doing this for a second time is insane, you should be proud of yourself. Enjoy this last states because when you least expect it you would have finished it again. Also I envy you for being in nature and sharing the experience with us.

In real time you must be in Maine, heading for the finish line...and come July be enjoying the lakes and boating... I am glad for you getting the thru hikes over with.. there comes a time when the reality of life being so short, that months on end in the woods with no reward is more about survival then having fun.

Home is where your heart is. It's where family, Chet and Cali are. Once this hike is completed you have so much life in front of you. You have done the trail 2 ways, once with Cody and now solo. You have people around you if you want a day or so with them, but you've always said you like doing your own hike. You're amazing and a role model for others. Thanks for including us in you chats and days, and for always being real. Love following along, thank you 😊

greetings from an 81 year old legally blind day hiker. I live in Hanover and about a 15 minute walk to the Hanover CO - ohP market. I don’t know where you are in real time, but suggest that market is a good place to get some really good food. Your video from yesterday, where are you were feeling some emotional distress, distress, and home sickness reminded me of an encounter I had a few years ago up at pico camp, coming off near Killington, where I met a father son through hiking team, and the father was clearly done. I think I convinced him to take a break, but he had come this far and should keep going. I think that’s what he did and I also would suggest that you consider taking some zero days maybe two in a row with your family and your dog. Be well. 0:03

You're awesome Taylor. Solo hiking the AT is no easy feat for sure and in most cases in a positive mood just chugging along, showing your experiences along the way. I'm glad I found your channel a few months ago so I could follow along on this hike. Watching you hike is really making me want to hurry up these next couple of weeks and do some hiking myself in the White Mountains come July. Keep on keeping on ⛰️🤙Enjoy yourself, be safe

I love that you’re showing the truths of being homesick. Honestly, that’s the biggest thing I can see posing a challenge for my daughter and I next year. Our family is so close and being away from them is going to be difficult. We have talked about it as a family though and my husband has agreed to push and discourage us from those negative thoughts if we want to come home because we are homesick. He knows that we would be SO disappointed if we quit because of that.

I think you nailed it why many hikers hit a wall in Vermont when you mentioned there are fewer trail towns with easy access to a good meal. Also, there seems to be less of the spontaneous trail magic that occurred in the states before New England. I am following a handful of thru hikers and most are finding Vermont challenging for the reasons you mentioned. Hang in there!

When I thru hiked the LT southbound I ran into a lot of AT northbounders that seemed at the end of their rope. I assumed it was due to the unusually muddy trail that year but what you said makes sense too.

I thru hiked the LT SoBo I’m 2021 and it’s nice to see some familiar places again. I’m surprised about the Glastonbury tower being closed! I remember climbing it and being scared but not because it was flimsy, I’m just afraid of heights! I know some people make it a side goal to climb all the fire towers on the LT, so that’s a bummer.

You want to get yourself some snacks that are high in protein and digest slowly. That way you don't have to eat as much or carry as much for the same amount of protein as sugary treats (ie cliff bar has 30g sugar weight that could be extra grams of almonds with 21g protein) . I use walmart - great value nuts and seeds. High protein nuts and seeds in order of calories are: macadamia (718-100g), pecans (693), Brazil nuts (656), 80%-90% cacao chocolate (600), almonds (576), sunflower (584), cashues (553), pumpkin seeds (446). Also olive oil has 884 calories, dates 282 calories. In order of protein (as fat content and calories goes up protein goes down, high protein has lasting energy you need to feel full) : almonds (21.2g), sunflower seed (21g), pumpkin seed (19g) cashues (18g), brazil nuts (14g), pecans (9g), macadamia (8g), chocolate (5g). I do a nut seed mix with chocolate and dried cranberries, the fruit is great for vitamin c and aids absorption of other foods. In the end this is way cheaper, fuel efficient and sustaining than individually packaged highly processed sugary bars. I package the mix into individual one cup ziplock snack bags to keep track of what I'm eating and how I feel. I eat 2-3 cups a day while hiking once I have my legs. I'm vegitarian. If you can eat jerky, I'd add that as well.
