Welcome back to Two Farm Boys! In today's video, we custom square bale a friend's 12 acre hay field. The final number was 546 bales. We put about 360 bales in his barn and he let us take the rest. Enjoy!

Yep, they earned their pay for sure! Two of the guys who helped picked up also bale their own square bales and I helped them with a lot of their stuff this year as well. Thanks for watching and have a great rest of the day - Everett

Thank you! You too! Yeah, I think it does pretty good. I don't really have too much to compare it to but it'll go a good while before it needs refilled. Thanks for watching and have a great rest of the day - Everett

Great video! Makes me want to be out in the field just that much more!! One question for you; is there a particular reason you run the tractor on the outside of the field for the first pass instead of the cutter? We’ve always run the cutter on the outside, I guess it helps with ensuring you get as close to the edge as possible and then all the other rows align off of that. I’m not saying there’s a right or wrong way to it by any means! It looks like your cutter and tractor are close to the same width so it may not even be an issue gauging your width with it. Another thing, you could really do with a wagon on the back of the baler! I read a previous comment saying the same thing and also read your reply. I bet that tractor of yours could easily handle having the wagon! We had to bale last year with a Farmall H on a 24T John Deere baler (H is I think somewhere in the 20 horsepower range from factory, so it’s now 80 years old who knows what it’s at!) and we were able to pull a wagon and fair load up steep hills with the baler running. I also see you mentioned an issue of maneuverability, also something I bet wouldn’t be an issue. We do work in a small no longer used sheep pen and are able to maneuver easily. The gate is our biggest issue! Once again it’s all just suggestions and things to try out/experiment with! Nothing is a “you MUST do” sort of thing! Do it the way you like! Take care and I look forward to seeing more from you! PS- you’ve got yourself a new subscriber (or supporter as I like to say)!

Thank you so much for your comment and subscribing! It's been a while since I was told how to cut hay, but if I remember it had something to do with keeping the mower from hitting sticks along tree lines and it would give me a chance to see them and then I could come back and move them before I mowed there. That's the way my neighbors have always done it. They've taught me near everything I know. So here is my reasoning with not running the wagon: We have some very steep hills where we live. The camera is bad at doing it justice. It might be fine on flat hills but I'd be afraid of the weight pushing me downhill and straining the tractor going up hill. Plus, even if I could bale like that with THIS baler, I'll be using a slightly larger hp requirement baler this summer. But I may consider it if I get a larger tractor. Thank you so much for the suggestions.

Nice video, Was wondering why U don't pull a flat wagon behind the baler? Did U get a chance to get "your" baler repaired & tying better? Also how many turtles on Ur mower?

There are two reasons that we don't pull a wagon. My tractor wouldn't have the power to pull both the baler and the wagon on the hills we have. And the other reason is mobility. A lot of the fields in our area are small fields in sections rather than just one big field. So that kind of train would take a lot to maneuver. To answer your second question, we have two big drums on our mower rather than multiple little ones. Thanks for watching and feel free to ask any other questions you may have - Everett

It's a John Deere 4105. It has 32 PTO hp. Biggest problem is it's hydrostatic and doesn't weigh much. Thanks for watching - Everett

Spinning that old baler a lil too fast
@TwoFarmBoys
@TwoFarmBoys 3 жыл бұрын
It probably was a little fast. I think we sheared a bolt or two. I'll play around with it a little bit this year and probably slow it down a little if it still seems too fast on the new baler. Thanks for the advice - Everett

Old ones were 60-70 strokes per min, newer were 70-80 and 13 strokes per bale speed will get pins tough hay, u probably could have moved a bit faster, l would only own a no small baler as I know more about them and they will bale about anything
