Ah, Stew, it's so good to see you and go on a wander again! I loved the old cobblestone street at 6:40, the kitties, pigeons, ice cream, and Baklava! I made baklava as Christmas gifts for our neighbors for many years - thin filo dough, layered with butter, honey, cinnamon and ground nuts - walnuts or pistachio. The feeling there is nice! Interesting about the water system...Looked up the meaning of "Sarajevo" - "City of the Palace" or "Palace on the River Bosna". Saratoga Springs, here in the USA, upstate New York, also has lots of natural mineral springs, still working for the public. Interesting similarity of the prefix "Sara-i" (meaning Princess, Palace, Mansion or Inn). Reminds me of an Oasis - beautiful and containing life-giving water.
@eliseatpaintingglory46542 жыл бұрын
P.S. I think those rolls in your meal were grape leaves, not spinach! I looked it up: THE HIRSHON BOSNIAN STUFFED CABBAGE - SARMA: "Sarma is a dish of grape, cabbage, monk’s rhubarb or chard leaves rolled around a filling usually based on minced meat. It is found in the cuisines of the former Ottoman Empire from the Middle East to the Balkans and Central Europe. Sarma comes from Turkish language, from the verb sarmak which means ‘to wrap’ or ‘to roll’. Yaprak sarma (grape leaves with meat) is sometimes called yaprak dolması ‘filled leaf’ or simply dolma ‘stuffed thing’; although dolma strictly speaking applies to stuffed vegetables, it is often conflated with sarma. Yaprak sarma without meat (grape leaves filled with rice flavored with pine nuts, currants and spices) is usually called yalancı dolma” ‘fake dolma’."

I could see white cabbage leaves or sarma and bell peppers stuffed with meat and rice called dolma :) we have sarma, dolma and yaprak all stuffed with rice and than additional ingredients are different in every dish . it is mostly made with walnuts the baklava! This is tradition from 500 years of the occupation of the Balkan teritory by the Turcs.

Go to grbavica. I’m also a tourist from Australia in Bosnia and I have been staying in dolac malta with my family. I’ve been meeting the people and made some freinds from all the surroundings areas and I think grbavica is the most notable

I don't know if you've ever had ćevapi but you need to try it. It's by far the best Bosnian food.

In your meal there was not a leaf of spinach but a leaf of grapes. Leave Sarajevo without testing burek, sirnica, zeljanica etc and traditional cakes like baklava, sampita, hurmasica kadaif... do not make that mistake! :)
