You won’t see many tourist places in my videos, I rather like to show the “real” sides of each country in my videos. Where do the local people go to eat? Where do they hang out? How do the locals travel through the country? Stuff like that.

I've lived in HK for 6 years and there are two places I would highly recommend; 1) Stanley Market and 2) Tai O. The journey by bus to Stanley is exciting in itself as it climbs up the mountain and passes through mega mansions of the super rich and you get a beautiful view of the ocean as it climbs down as it makes its way to Stanley via Repulse Bay, another upscale area that also has a nice beach. Stanley has a great Californian/Mediterranean vibe with lots of restos, cafes and an interesting market. Great place to chill by the ocean. Tai O is quite a distance away where you will need to take a ferry from the pier at Central which takes approx 20 mins to Mui Wo on Lantau island and from thereon you hop on a bus which takes you directly to Tai O. Alternatively take the MTR to Tung Chung station to catch a bus, its just a few stations away from where your hotel is. You will immediately feel like youve been transported back 50 years, a totally different vibe than the hustle and bustle of the city. It is a traditional and picturesque fishing village built on stilts over the water and is dubbed the Venice of the east. Totally laidback atmosphere, no cars except for bicycles and a great place to explore the little alleys and bridges and to take photos. These places used to be my weekend hangout back then. Hope youre having a great time in HK, mate.

Hello, I'm a Hong Kong local although I'm in Australia right now, I wish you a pleasant journey in Hong Kong and I really recommend you visit the countryside of Hong Kong! There are a lot of places you can hike (around Hong Kong Island e.g. Jardine’s Lookout and Kowloon such as the Lion Rock/ appreciate the sunset (such as the aircraft maintenance area near the airport/ Tai O). They are quite fascinating and hope you're having a great time. 😊

Hong Kong is a place for authentic Cantonese cuisine. Dimsum in the morning ( or the locals called it Yum Cha or direct translate means drink tea),roast goose, roast duck which they are famous for in Hong Kong (HKG). They have pretty good chicken rice too. When you order dishes, you can always ask for rice if it doesn't come with any. Stinky beancurd may also be something to try. It's an acquired taste and it taste better than the smell. MTR is the best / cost effective option in moving around as cabs are super expensive. They do have tram rides too that only available in the city area. Macao has a different vibes and a nice place to visit too (touristy). Macao is a 2nd Las Vegas as they are famous for casinos. You can also easily apply for a day visa to go over to Chu Hoi (China) from Macao. Don't forget to try the famous Portuguese tart (similar to Malaysia eggs tarts but they taste better). Enjoy your HKG / Macao travel.

Indeed an interesting first episode of your Hong Kong series. HK is very clean, well maintained and transportation there is good. No street food vendors beside the roads, all are indoors 👍👍 Those bubble waffles/ "gai daan jai" look yum yum. A good choice to have your meal/claypot chicken at that well-known "Dai Pai Dong" Stunning viewpoint and yeah, it's good to be in the moment. As always, great content and l loooove it....lots of fun moments. Thanks for your good job, Ken.

I’m so happy and touched to see tourists coming back, we’ve been going through tough times since June 2019. Great to see you’re enjoying the food here! You just missed two things in this video : the European building in Central is called Tai Kwun, the Former Police Station/magistracy opened in 1925, now is a centre for heritage and arts and with plenty of restaurants/bars. You also missed the Peak tram up. The tram station is within walking distance from where you took your taxi. Tickets are HK$52 return, HK$37 for single journey. Well, hope this information will help your followers who will be visiting Hong Kong in the near future. Enjoy your stay!

32:52 The Symphony of Light show is worth seeing, but in the first version of it back in 2004, at the beginning of the show, it will light up all the building, with a voice over introducing each building's name from left to light (including I think around 12 major building). And when introducing to a building, that whole building's light will blink. I think that's more meaningful, especially to a tourist or someone's not familiar to HK. Don't know why recently not organised like that.

There's another style of "clay pot" dish...commonly called, "clay pot rice" that is served in a similar vessel. However, it includes a bed of rice at the bottom with savory meats on top of the rice. And, because the rice is cooked in the clay pot, over flames, the edges become crispy while the rice in the center is warm and fluffy. So, you have to scrape the edges of the interior to extract the crisped rice. And, this is the hallmark of this clay pot preparation. Popular meats to get include Chinese sausage or Chinese bacon, pork ribblets, chicken, and a boneless pork loaf. Usually, a dark, slightly sweet soy sauce is included on the side. You sprinkle it atop the contents before eating...if it isn't already done for you. Clay pot rice in Cantonese is called, "bo jai faan." Look for it. In my opinion, it's one of the best Cantonese comfort foods.

To share some information with you, 1. pineapple bun is so called because of the feature of the topping, and it actually does not have any pineapple inside. 2. We used to call the Peak rather than Victoria Peak(it's my first time hearing this lol). That's why the taxi driver thought you were saying another place, Victoria Park. 3. Cheers in Cantonese is jam 2 bui 1(飲杯) Welcome to Hong Kong. Enjoy~

Must congratulate you Ken on a fantastic video which brought back memories of my visits before 1997. One must try the trams on HK Island (although I suspect you are already planning to so that) and maybe a ferry crossing. I think the famous Star Ferry still exists. Pity you were unable to land at the former Kai Tak airport in Kowloon Bay. It's famous for being very near downtown Kowloon and for its difficult landing approach.

You need to shoot cityscape in the blue hour. This adds tremendously to the quality of your footage. Daylight is much less interesting and late night is even worse. You have a 20-30 minute window to catch after sunset, but there are multiple blue hour apps to help you plan your shots. It'd have been nice to see the Shanghai Venice part too when the traditional lampions are lit. I bet it's a very different experience.

Don't forget to have a cup of HK-style tea with milk with your breakfast one morning. It's simply called "naai chaa (奶茶)", which just means "milk-tea". It's something HKers directly inherited from the British, but tweaked for the HK taste. People drink it like you drink coffee in Europe. It's intense if you've never had it before. Also, many people still prefer congee (粥) for breakfast, especially in the older neighborhoods. Congee shops usually will serve it with a variety of possible ingredients. Most common is the century egg and lean pork combination (皮蛋瘦肉粥). There might be a congee shop near your hotel. Note that a congee shop likely won't serve milk-tea (some do; most don't).

Hong Kongers love to have dessert after dinner, maybe you can try some local desserts (糖水, pronounced as tong-shui) at dessert restaurants! Also, foreigners maybe interested in our traditional ‘villain hitting’(打小人, pronounced as da-siu-yan) ritual (to ‘curse’ someone) and it takes place under the Canal Road flyover in Causeway Bay.

Thanks for liking the peak trail. I love it too. Btw, the water in between the Island and Kowloon is the sea, the Victoria Harbour, not a river. 😂

Welcome to HK. Great video. By the way at 0:57 the lady said you are good looking and very tall. In the taxi, the driver confused Victoria Peak (more commonly known as The Peak) with Victoria Park (which is in Causeway Bay). At 29:29 the guy said he comes from Beijing and unlikely to know Cantonese

Welcome to Hong Kong! I tihnk you should have tried the Peak Tram to get to the Peak. There were quite a lot of international tourists visiting the Peak before the pandemic. It was wise of you to walk along the path to see the beautiful view of Victoria Harbour. Many locals and tourists would go for a walk there and take pictures. Another option is to see the view from the rooftop sitting-out area of Peak Galleria (next to the Monopoly Museum). It's also free of charge. BTW, are you from Germany?

I think you can try some seafood, but they are expensive. And Hong Kong people are fast and efficient, and there is a restaurant named Australia Dairy Company located in Jordan, I would say it could let you feel how fast and efficient of Hong Kong, it is actually a challenge for foreigner.

Wow, I really love to visit hongkong I have relatives there. Very bright and exciting place. I just noticed that the business district are more crowded and norrow. Not so modern buildings coated with glass. Im used to BGC when I was working there before. But subway and city beside the river view is beautiful at night. And sanmig light for me imported from philippines is bigger the better. Haha
