This my first episode is from Sudan. The moment I crossed into Sudan I found myself in the middle of a revolution. The Sudanese people had been protesting against the government for months and as I arrived in the country the army removed the president. The situation became very unstable, people were confused and no one knew what this would lead to. I was aware of the risks, but I decided not to change my plans, I stayed in Sudan for a month so I could experience this beautiful country and witness these amazing times. This episode is from my first few days in Sudan where I experienced my first taste of this incredible culture.

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don't know my final destination or the duration of this journey.
Throughout my journey, I'm raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. All the money raised will go directly to helping Franek and his family lead as normal a life as possible so please donate generously: gogetfunding.c...

I am from Sudan 🇸🇩, moved to Australia just February 2019, I do engineering, live in a midway between Sydney and Canberra . What she filmed is really true, Sudanese are mostly peaceful and friendly, a nation went through a tough 30 years of a dictator ( who now in prison after peaceful demonstration toppled him)... Sudan is very spacious, different in languages , culture s, just like any African country. I am impressed by this Sheila who had a such an adventure even I hadn't done in my country.. thank you mate.

The henna that the Sudanese women placed on the souls of your feet actually decreases your head and body temperature, and can be put on your head and hair as well. When you're near The Nile, light up some fallen tree branches and create smoke to repel the insects from coming near you. I hope you have a great trip there and enjoy your time!

Having spent 5 years in Sudan you will be just fine, you might have to deal with the odd requests for bribery from officials to get through check points and such but you should be physically safe and the request is normally just enough in Sudanese pounds to cover a Coke or Fanta.. Provided, and this is the important part, you are not going into the Darfur region or near the border of South Sudan. There are still far too many militia's in those area's that are both for and against the government. These are some very very bad folks. Since you are moving toward Dongola I am assuming you are heading directly towards the Ethiopian border, if this is right you should be ok since the roads have a good amount of traffic and are decently surfaced. Just watch the truck drivers, mirrors are rarely used.
