@55tbyrd My setup is in a Nissan NV 3500. It's a big passenger van. It has a ton of air volume. The ten was the compromise between my wife and I. It only metered 119db in the van. But for the air space it does very well. I put it in my son's camry once and it was crazy how loud it was. No meter data because the meter I used was from my work.

Orion isn’t the same it was 20- 30 yrs ago. Their amps on the other hand are definitely worth the money

In the UK we have bassface indy s Subwoofers who are half the price and twice as good. 15" is £130 ($180) and are 1500wrms, 3" vc and great Fs of 27.4Hz !

Finally a DD sub! I think the voice coil bottomed out very hard during the spl testing. That 4-5k watts was a little much. lol I hope you test some of there other subs. Great review as always! Thanks Parker!

I cant speak for all their products but i do have 2 of their sl612s in a custom sealed box and i am very happy with them. I may not push them as hard as possible but i do push them hard for long periods of time. That being said a local dealer of dd said their high end stuff was good but to stay away from their budget redline stuff. Good for a small budget but thats about it. Be safe and be blessed!

Those Skar single subs are tuned fairly high for a lows setup. I think its sold around 36hz but I had one that was closer to 38hz.

Pretty much no one offers recones on inexpensive subs. That's usually reserved for the higher end stuff. By the time you send it out, pay someone to create a kit, install it and ship it back your almost at the cost of a new sub. That's true of all brands, with maybe a few exceptions.

Awesome sub that low FS is exactly what I like! And I've been listening to youtube with a set of Infinity tower speakers and 12" subwoofer for about a year now. Before that I had a different Infinity system that also sounds amazing! Oh and their 12" sub can take just about anything!

When I was first getting into car audio DD was a brand I really wanted to run. But 270 bucks for 700 RMS and a cookie cutter design? Eh, I'll pass. The Deaf Bonce machete 15s, that I'm currently running, are rated at 800 RMS and are being sold for 120. DD's just asking way too much for what the sub is, in my opinion. Try not to get hung up on RMS but yes DD are abusing their name to get top dollar for what really is a $120 sub at most. No different to the likes of JL for their entry level gear but people keep paying for it so there's no reason for them to change i guess.

Can someone recommend me what 8" subs (2PCS) should I use on my small sedan car? Subs are on the back on the "hat shelf", infinite baffle configuration (using the trunk as box). Currently I use alpine swg-844 speakers (120W rms each) but they are a little weak and max out easily. Planning on getting Alpine Type-Rs or DD 508-s. Ground zero is also an option, I'm based in Europe so there ain't many other cheap subs to get here. Nice vid tho, I have had DD 615 speakers in the past, they worked fine but I had issue with the leads going from terminal to the voice coil (on the spider), they simply rotted out...

2x8's are not enough cone area for free air. Add another pair of alpine subs to make 4x8's. Or change to 2x15's, for free air subs look for qts around 0.7, low fs, high x-max

15 inch 500-700 watt sub for $300ish including a decent 500-1000 watt amp isn't a bad combo if one has a box already, if not it's like $450 for daily everyday jams although maybe going for something like kicker or other brands that have more budget friendly combos would work better

That box doesn’t like low lows, and the budget DD sub is great however for the price point you will be happier with a Skar EVL and a few other subs that are better suited for abuse. The 500 series is not a SPL sub it’s designed as a SQ sub. Put it in a custom box and it will be much louder just won’t be as loud as other subs that are more aimed for SPL.

For the price, if you want SPL... there better choices, but kudos to the bottom line DD for tanking 4k watts lol. Level 3 or level 4 DD subs will take an absolute beating... these did OK for the expectation. I think there are "better" subs for a similar price. Brands like American Bass and Deaf Bonce offer similar priced solutions that can handle more power and take an even bigger beating.
