My First Drive in the AMG GT R Pro!

Let's explore the brand new Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro, the new and even more track focused version of the supercar from Affalterbach! After an amazing year with 30,000km in my AMG GT R, I'm looking to upgrade to a GT R Pro, so join me for a first drive on track to learn all about it and find out whether it will be worth the upgrade as a future Shmeemobile.
The AMG GT R Pro is going to be produced in limited numbers with just 750 units in total. Demand is high for the lighter car with increased aero, improved power delivery and revised suspension when compared to the GT R itself. While the engine remains as the 4.0 TT V8 making 585PS and 700nm, 25kg of weight is stripped out while new aero creates an additional 99kg of downforce.
To discover all about it, we're with AMG at Hockenheim, the German F1 Grand Prix circuit with an opportunity for some hot laps to really push on and get a feel for the changes. Driving in a lead follow setup behind DTM champion Bernd Schneider on the full track gives a great opportunity to discuss the increase downforce balance to the front while also experimenting with the different driving modes and 9-stage AMG traction control.
Regular viewers will have followed the last 16 months with my AMG GT R, during which it ventured far and wide from track days and Vmax runs to daily driving and Ikea shopping. It has cemented itself a solid place in my heart as one of my favourite cars to use, and having now experienced the Pro I would sincerely love to add one to the garage next. The UK allocation run will be incredibly limited and as of this moment has not been confirmed, but should I be lucky enough to do you'll know very soon!

Unfortunately solar beam yellow is about $10k option on amg gtr, not sure how much on this (or even available). That's why shmee get his gtr on black and wrapped it, saving some substantial money.

rektgg Should be anywhere between 2.5 to 5k (but this depends a lot on the car and the used wrap). Recently got a Mercedes E63 wrapped (not mine) in satin black with 3M vinyl and that was about 3k

When I watched it back later I realised that it's one take on the track stint, which is proof of just how composed and assured the car is. Of course my familiarity with the GT R plays a role in that but the Pro really makes you feel in control and happy to push on hard!

On topic, but upping the ante a little, I recall Senna’s fitness partner observing that Ayrton was the only driver, perhaps occasionally along with Alain who, while at 10/10ths in qualy, would talk base through what the car was saying to him, changes needed, corner by corner, gears, kerbs, positioning and the like. The TV coverage confirmed this. Then they cut sequentially to two, unnamed drivers on the circuit. All we could hear from them was rapid, heavy breathing, as if the person was wrestling a 25kg bag up a few flights of stairs. This increased my already high admiration for the man. In the modern era, many could do this, including Schumacher.

I was hoping to find this comment. The car industry is keen on milking the tweaks. It is really weird and concerning how economy made a practical vehicle into a shiny gadget which needs to be replaced with every single tiny upgrade. The Bugatti LVN as an exemplary abomination. Video's like these kinda sickens me. Don't get me wrong: I like how technology makes more impact on the efficiency and power output of a car! And yes, I love balancing all kinds of aspects from that. But more in an informative way, showing progress. Not a "let's use something old and sell it as new to get the people keep on buying all our stuff", milking it. Milking it is keeping progress behind as to sell something 'new' as soon as their first edition is sold out.

Exactly! And I gonna copy-paste here my comment (focused on the aero) on other video... Additional 220 downforce at 155mph, no wonder the car is named "PRO" cause you have to be a pro to really feel the downforce improvement and be satisfied with your choice of spending 40k£ extra on it. 7 seconds on Nurbur if you are a PRO, and who the fuck would regularly pays to close the track to TRY to reach that? This is a road car, kids! In REAL LIFE, not on Forza or GT, no one is gonna really race them on track regularly! No one PRO for sure! Not to mention the NON improvement on the drivetrain which every ordinary person would feel the difference but they choose not. This is bullshit! AMG GT R PRO-MONEY-GRABBER Go to RENNtech with your regular GT R and spend 40k£... you will see the abysmal improvement in performance that you will get!

GTR PRO is technically the black series Edit I don't think they are bringing the black series name back based on rumours that came out a while ago that a track focus C63 AMG was gonna be called the C63 R

@@kennyd7667 Nah the black series is still being tested and their are quite a few spy shots of it on the Nurburgring. The front end is shaped differently to the pro and the exhaust pipes at the rear look different aswell. AMG head Tobias Moers has confirmed the Black series is coming at the end of next year

Knowing how good the original GT R was, and now what they have done with the GT R Pro, I can only imagine where they are going! No doubt the 'Black Series' will be something with insane demand, and would be a dream to experience when the time comes. For now, I'm hoping I get lucky with a Pro allocation to continue the adventures here on the channel.

Beautiful cars indeed. I’m kind of on the fence regarding the stripes. I liked the gray stripes on the, I think darker gray car, but some of the other colour schemes looked really aftermarket to me. I guess it’s to each his/her own. Very nice exhaust note. I couldn’t hear some of what you were saying at speed ( I’m in my 70’s) but what a wonderful piece of machinery.👍👍

What a car! Amazing work from the people in Affalterbach. That's a 'pro'per track car from AMG! On a sidenote: When the GT R Pro arrives, will his current GT R stay as his GT R renntech modified and project-ish car, or will it be sold? And what will happen when the GT R Black series arrives? Also, maybe Shmee could use a personalized racing suit/helmet, which would be really cool.
