What presenters fail to aknowledge is you can rock up to a Merc dealer and buy this car. To get a GT3RS you have to pay a £30-£40k premium to buy a second hand one. You simply cannot buy a new one (unless you buy c 10+ cars a year from a dealer).

went in one a couple of days ago at mercedes world. the car is magic and you'd have to be doing something very wrong for it to feel compromised. the only thing is it has a bit of low speed turn in and mid corner understeer but as soon as you give it a bit of throttle the rear wheel steer pulls the car right round the corner as if on rails. it's a special special car and i'd have one over a 911 gt3 now

It might actually be the other way round. Appears to be plenty for sale. Max 750 GT-R PRO, according to Autocar but I don’t think there’s a hard limit these days on the number of GT cars Porsche makes? Also, with the AMG costing £200k+ by the time you’ve added some options, that’s GT2 RS territory, which would have been a more appropriate comparison...

I'm a big fan of Mercedes and always hated the Porsche. But damn, recently I have shifted, now I have a soft spot for Porsche. Dynamically the Porsche is all wrong, wrong engine placement, wrong shape (personally). BUT damn they engineered it to work together and make it an exceptional car.

The gt3RS are 5-6 seconds slower on our home town track, this gtr is a gt3 dream killer. The GTR also kills the GT3 time on the nur.

People should realize that for track is not just about horsepower...The biggest challenge of engineers is be able to make a high power car to deliver torque in a linear fashion to the tires allowing for almost NA behaviour...too much torque, and particularly irregular torque delivery, will ruin your track time..it will unset your rear in the middle and exit of curves and will give you less control overall..you want an engine with very flat torque curves, very responsive and with ECU very well calibrated to that instant time variation of torque will not reduce grip. Sometimes tuners will get you more power, but it will only help you in straight lines. In short tracks where you need intermittent surges of power, you can't have turbo lag, you should not have monster torque menacing your curve exits..etc...So..these types of turbo cars had extensive, gigantic work trying to tune the ECU to control all of that...You can get more power with tuners..but be sure you will ruin some things that were engineered with a lot of thought and time...My perfect GTR tune would be a way to keep it as it is, but increasing the power from 4500 rpm, by letting the torque curve just increase about 5% overall from 4500 to the redline. This would give it a lot more power then what it has now, and would make it a hell of a car. I also would make a special set up to make the exhaust sound become more aggressive from 5000 rpms and above. Race mode suspension needed to be slightly more firm and the sport mode should be more unrestricted...it really doesn't allow for almost any kind of rear drift...if you want it just need the ESP Off..with traction control regulation...and it is kind of dangerous particularly in wet..

After owning and driving both (gtr not pro) the GTR is an absolute riot of a sports/super car that the RS is lacking. It’s not all about lap times I’ve had tons of so called fastest at ring or lap time cars at their respective moment, and I found them pretty much to be boring! At the end of the day different cars sing to different people, using lap times instead of emotion behind the wheel is ridiculous!

just the shear pleasure of pressing the gas pedal of a GTR compensates the dull sensation of pressing the gas pedal of a GT3 Rs..no torque...no pull...only some feeling in the top 3000 rpms...Even if the porsche has lower weight, and better traction, and maybe better times in some tracks, the GTR is clearly a more round car usable and enjoyable in a wide array of situations...including travelling..something quite boring in a GT3 RS

the gt3rs practically has the same engine as the race car, practically identical in many ways as the actual cup car, give some more weight and comfort creatures. The AMG GTR pro doesn't even use the same engine as its race car. what they could have done was give it some 700hp, and more hardcore, then it would be in the range of gt2rs... but with a boot too. That would be something.

They are giving you way more car for the money. Better looks better interior more comfortable, faster, better handling, more presence, more practical, its a much better daily drivers car. I know I'm going to sound silly, but 3.6 seconds to 60 is a bit slow for a car of this price. A Ferrari 458 from 10 years ago was faster and it wasn't an all out track car.

Car and driver magazine managed 3.0 seconds to 60 even with the 2016 AMG GT S with 503 hp, and MotorTrend magazine got 3.2 seconds for the same model. The official 0-60 time quoted by Mercedes is 3.7 seconds for the AMG GT S, so the “official” performance time quoted by Mercedes are very conservative, their cars can usually do much better than their officially quoted times in the real world. The 577hp GT R will not be slower in the real world than the less powerful and slightly heavier GT S.

Did AMG say themself that they specificly made this car to compete with the gt3 rs? Cause i highly doubt that, if i would go for a top of the line sports car i would chose the merc between the two. But if i would chose a sports car from all brands i could choose, i would honestly take a normal porsche 911. Porsches look the best clean, without stupid carbon fibre fins sticking out and a stupidly big spoiler.

It looks outstanding..but even with less weight, more power,more torque and best aerodynamic design it still takes 3.6 sec. Even merc e63s with 2 ton giving more performance and 0-60 in 3.1 sec. Being a sports GT model I think merc gtr has to improve more to keep up with porsche n nissan gtr.
