The first time I saw a Mormon temple ceremony online I was shocked at how much JS took from freemasonry. Especially the handshakes and the whole "on the square " is incredibly masonic
@micheleh3851
@micheleh3851 6 ай бұрын
@4everseekingwisdom690 - The use of various types of handshakes is used extensively in the Old Testament, in case you want to dust off your Bible. Using handshakes as an oath between two parties has been used in all ages when people shake hands to bind their word instead of a written contract. Raising the right arm to the square is used nowadays in court rooms and other civic and political proceedings when people certify to tell the truth or are being sworn into a position. I suppose those must seem incredibly masonic to you as well.

When the key points of all these ex-mormons all match up so specifically, it is really hard to take the Nay-Sayers seriously. The old testament temple did not have secret ceremonies in any way like this. I am so glad you were able to get out, and I pray for those who are still on the inside.

@michaelparks5669 capslock doesn't make you more right. And the Temple was established as a permanent replacement for the tabernacle. All of its uses were outlined in exodus and leviticus, so we know what was done inside. It was offerings and sacrifice for the people, done by the Levite priest's. I don't have to know that Yad Vesham means memorial to know what was happening in the Temple. That's just silly 😜

When I went through the temple for the first time in the very early 80's, we still did the death oaths, the slashing and gashing penalties and the "Pay Lay Ale" arms held high cult chants. It was a trip! Many mormons don't believe this was actually part of the ceremony ... but as a first hand participant, I assure you that this is a fact. At the time and as a true believer preparing for my mission, I felt I had no choice but to accept all this cult craziness. Like you, I noticed that the family and friends that were there with me... kept an eye on me the entire time.... I felt like they were trying to gauge my reactions to all the bizarre things that were pouring out everywhere. When I finished the "session" and exited the temple with my dad, he asked me what I thought about the endowment. The moment he asked, I sensed from him that he half expected me to call the whole thing out as what it actually is... a cult ceremony. I really felt grateful that I wasn't required to strip naked and sit on the alter chanting gibberish or maybe sacrifice a dog or cat to Elohim... so I told him it wasn't what I expected. He kinda laughed it off and said that I'd "get used to it".

I went through in 1981. I hated everything about the ceremony. I didn't know what Free Masonry was at the time. This was borrowed or stolen from it. I hated the blood oaths too. I thought this is probably similar to how murderous cult leader Charles Manson inducted new members into "His family." .....I went through with my oldest Brother. In the car afterwards he kept asking me if I was alright. When I brought up something he shut it off right away. Saying "We don't know why but this was all essential to our salvation. You will just have to get used to it." I knew I wasn't in Kansas any more and the idealism of the Church left me that day.

One thing that broke my shelf was the idea of taking my own daughters through the temple ceremony and having to reassure them everything was "fine", knowing full well this isn't normal. I couldn't imagine placing that kind of pressure on them to accept it just because I thought it was the right thing. Having kids led me out of the church because even though I had gone along with things that seemed wierd bc my parents said it was okay, I never wanted my kids to go through all of that.

The first time I went through, I exited the booth where you get your new name. It was all COMPLETELY new and strange. The officiated told me my new name and said I would be asked it later but I was not to tell anyone else. As I exited the booth another temple worker spied my pink card and asked if I had just received my new name and did I remember it? I said:" It is Aaron" No!No! Don't tell me, you tell the person at the veil! Well that ruined my whole session and I thought I would be going to hell for divulging it. 😂😂😂

The secrecy for all this mumbo-jumbo according to the active, believing members is "ohh it is so sacred we do not talk about it anywhere to anyone" ! I agree with you Lex that what you revealed here is totally accurate. And now that the secrecy of these "sacreds" are out, the "bretheren" change the ceremony. The washing and annointing, and the complete ceremony left my wife aghast when she went through the first time. She never wanted to experience any of that ever again. She finally sent a letter to our ward bishop, stating that she wanted out. She demanded no discussion, no meeting.

It's crazy how uncomfortable garments are. After leaving the church, the thing I was most excited for wasn't being able to drink coffee, alcohol, or sleeping in on Sunday; it was buying a pack of MeUndies. If garments felt like them, you'd have an easier time convincing me that they were divinely desinged.

Your experience was extremely similar to mine! I went through the temple in '98. It was so scary the whole time. I had the red flags flying throughout but it was the armed raised chanting that made me feel like for the first time (in my TBM, born under the covenant, 6th generation LDS) that I was in a cult. Truly the first red flag was being touched uncomfortably by a little old lady rubbing oil on my private areas bare skin with the anointing. It was all a shock to the system. I thought I was prepared because I was so faithful and wanted it more than anything! But it was a giant betrayal of trust that they do not prepare us for. Love your channel, content and commentary!!❤

I was sealed to my parents at the age of 7. Even at that age, the whole thing felt superficial. When I went to pick out a dress for my own wedding, I broke down in tears after trying on a few with sleeves. I finally had to stipulate that the dress had to be sleeveless because I just could not unsee the temple in it, and even though I wasn't getting married in the temple, I just couldn't escape the horror of looking in any way like I had just walked out of the temple. It honestly ruined the experience of dress shopping for my wedding. The dress I ended up with wasn't the dress I wanted or imagined myself wearing, but it was a dress that I felt like I could be myself in.

Lex, thank you for your accuracy and avoiding any gilding of the lilly. I got married in the SLC temple with live performers in the early eighties. Your pictures and descriptions are spot-on, including those demonstrating our pantomines of the penalties: disemboweling ourselves and slitting our throats to keep this inane ceremony secret. I remember looking around at my parents, uncles aunts, and grandparents (one who was a temple worker at the time) with a sense of dread, realizing they believed this to be divine. How? The actual answer is childhood indoctrination. Three years later I left, no regrets. 🙂

Now that I’ve been out for decades and no longer fear repercussions it baffles me that so many of my friends never questioned how weird this all is. I knew something was wrong at 17. And started questioning. I was lucky enough to have a neighbor convert that was willing to spill the beans about the temple and I was immediately horrified at how weird, creepy and downright gross the ceremony is. They’ve since changed the seriously sexually inappropriate rituals. In the years since I just didnt understood why people don’t push back on the weirdness of it all. I remember my mom saying that when you are truly in tune with the spirit you are in a state where the beauty of it all is revealed to you. She explained that even polygamy would make sense to me as I became more faithful and spiritual. I think the church does such a good job of setting the stage for its members to go along and not question that normal people hide and squash their concerns. They are master manipulators in getting people to stay in line. Which is one of the reasons I find this cult so dangerous. You will go along with outrageous behavior and not speak up. 💔

I never made it to the temple--I was always told I was "unworthy" because I questioned a lot and I did "horrible things" (I had a good friend that was a gay man, I went out with people of color, I was dating a non-Mormon, while I'd never had an abortion, I thought a woman had the right to choose, etc. So I was just never going to make it to the temple or "Celestial Kingdom"). Never wore garments (again, not "worthy"). Now I'm really happy I wasn't ever worthy of any of that crap. That is exactly what a cult looks like. And secret handshakes to get into heaven? I'd heard rumors but didn't really believe them, I mean, how stupid is that? That can't possibly be true. Guess it is.

Finally I just accepted it but it was awful feeling. The garments I liked. I was in Idaho and they helped me stay warm. In Arizona they sucked. God took me out of the church when I was late 40’s..brought me a Bible and taught me from this Bible what was relevant for me and I have learned Jesus commandments..which Mormons and Christians seem oblivious too. Now the CES Letter (for example) has no lies, but by instigating a loving concern for their relatives, maybe one can get the cult members to examine stuff they would not touch otherwise.

I recently read the Book of Mormon for the first time, and one thing that struck me was that it seems to imitate the language and phrasing of the KJV translation, but with less elegance and subtlety. I’m an atheist, but I love the language of the KJV, despite the content, and the sometimes poor translation choices. Do Mormons realize that the original books of the Hebrew Bible are not grammatically like Early Modern English found in the KJV? And that their newer holy book would likely have no reason to sound like a ripoff of the KJV?

I’m so happy you are not in the LDS cult anymore. I hope one day you can heal enough from the spiritual abuse you suffered to be able to put Christianity and its gospel (which is in every way different than the Mormon one) through the scrutiny you did with the LDS church. I think you would enjoy that process, regardless of where you end up with it. Ask your questions of Christianity. In the Bible God says “come and let us reason together.” He’s not asking you to earn your way to heaven. He’s not asking you to have blind faith that has no basis in reality. He’s calling all of our hearts to truth and I hope your heart can find Him, the real Him one day. Either way, I wish you all the very best and I enjoy your channel ❤

Personally, they are not uncomfortable for me, just sometimes, but I buy small sizes. when I learned about the endowment ceremony, that was wild. I became interested because I was friends with some mormons for a bit. and there's a video filmed in secret of a more old school version of the endowment. no movie. more a symbolic re-enactment of the whole thing with adam and eve. call and responses included. felt very ceremony and culty. and recently a podcast I listen to has been doing a series on mormons and its offshoots. they're working on the LeBaron sect next. which is such a wild story. which reminds me, could you talk about Blood Atonement as taught by the mainstream LDS church? because that is a wild teaching that I just found out about, but I'm not sure how its taught or practiced now.

I always felt shamed by the guy up there when I would do endowments after for not remembering the handshakes and words.

Funny thing is that Satan is the one telling the truth in the ceremony: Peter asks "what is being taught?" and Satan says "the philosophies of men, mingled with scripture." He was right! 👿

Thousands of dollars and years of service only to find dressing up in costumes, baptized and married for all the dead people we can find, Learning handshakes to heaven and multi-level marketing (more$$) to get to be God of my own world😅

Not an exmo here. Just wanted to point out for those who are or never been that the video clip at 3:13 is fake and the people are actors. There is no "Mormon" Temple that uses a brown wooden table with a red towel folded on top as part of any ceremony, and no open circle for a camera operator to conveniently capture a posed / staged photo. The clip at 2:11 isn't accurate either.
@ExmoLex
@ExmoLex 6 ай бұрын
That’s true, but it does make it clearer what it looks like for someone inside the circle (sans table). The ceremony is so secret there are no photos or videos unless a hidden camera is used, so it’s hard to show what I’m talking about. 2:11 is pretty accurate of the clothing though, not sure what the problem is with that one.

@ExmoLex - Those people are doing strange things with their hands that aren't part of any Temple ceremony. If your goal was only to highlight the clothing, you could have used the official clothing videos from the Church website, not videos produced by people whose goal isn't to educate, but to disparage on purpose.

@@micheleh3851actually they’re showing a part of the penalties (no longer part of the endowment, but was practiced up until the 90’s). As far as I know there isn’t an official church video showing anyone wearing the clothing, but either way, I did give a heads up.

If you're not Mormon no more, and an Atheist , then how come you don't have an Onlyfans? Is the guilty of such things engraved in your soul? In Ireland there is a thing call ''Catholic Guilty'' ,and even though a huge percent of people in Ireland no longer attend or believe in the Church, they still have this '' Catholic Guilty'' that makes them feel shame.

why would she have an onlyfans just because she's not a member anymore? that had nothing to do with any of this.

Apparently you were prepared very poorly for the temple experience. In particular, you were not prepared to understand the role of symbolism in the temple. For example, it is not knowledge of handshakes or secret words that “get you into heaven”; rather, it is the keeping of the sacred covenants made in the temple that can make one worthy of exaltation. I am sad that your preparation-or, more precisely, the lack thereof-served you so very poorly.
@chlyri

it literally says that you need to signs and tokens. to get into heaven, so yes, it is about them. they make it out that the symbolism means nothing if you forget the names or signs. even the long one i can still recite from memory because it's drilled in. hardly anyone is properly prepared because that's entirely against the point. knowing consent doesn't exist.

Your channel is helping the Saints, not to honor and obey their Sacred Covenants to God. You want them, to be driven by men's beliefs and doctrines. Be careful that one day, you will be held accountable before Jesus Christ judgement seat, in tearing down his Kingdom here on earth. While you wallow in unbelief and the voices of mens opinions and your own opinions, the faithful Saints are helping their fellowmen learn the fullness of Jesus Christ gospel to return to their Father in Heaven, by helping also the departed people from various era, to receive the fullness of God's gospel, because during those times, they were not able to receive it. The rest of the churches and religions of the world, has no clue about it, and they are not helping the gathering of Israel from both sides of the veil either. All ordinances that you received from other churches has no effect after this life is over, if it's not under the true priesthood from Jesus Christ. Always remember that.

Oh believe me, you probably were better off with the movie. We got married in the Manti temple so we could have a nice quiet time with the "live performance". Oh god. It was SOOOOOOO boring. A bunch of old yt dudes in tacky yt suits reading from a sh!tty script. We'd been told how much more awesome the live performance was. Ugh. lol. And like you said the "knowledge bomb" was SOOOOOO underwhelming. Just stuff we'd already learned in seminary and church. We'd been told that we'd "learn SOOOO much" in the temple. lol, such a joke. Sadly it took us many years before we finally made it out. Such a shame though, we only missed the "throat slitting" parts by a couple of years. lol.
