As a huge motorsports fan that leans more towards Nascar, videos like this make me so happy. I love F1 and IMSA and never understood the "they drive in circles", "it's easy, anyone can do it" mentality of road course motorsports fans towards Nascar. Videos like this really help bridge the divide and show the sport is so much more. So thank you. Come to Charlotte Coca Cola 600 next year, would love to see you there!

Hard being a British nascar fan when literally everyone you talk to about motorsports mentions nascar as the easiest sport ever or boring or dumb
@JayKayHere64Ай бұрын
I'm a fan of NASCAR, Indycar and F1, and will watch almost anything racing if it pops up in front of me. I also enjoy history and it is funny how many F1 fans or racing fans outside the US say NASCAR just turns left, as if running ovals is a bad thing or simple as you pointed out. The first purpose built motorsports oval was built in Australia, Aspendale which opened in 1906 (there were a number of ovals used in the US before that, but were built for horse racing). In Europe, many know of the Monza oval, but the first high banked oval in the world was Brooklands in England. Opened in 1907, was 2.7 miles and had 30 degree banking. The Opel-Rennbahn in Germany had 32 degree banking. Autodrome de Linas-Montlhery with 52 degree banking. And there is a track in Spain, Sitges-Terramar that held events from 1923-1936 (due to the Spanish Civil War) that has banking up to 66 degrees. There are a number of other high banked ovals in Europe and a few road courses that utilized a high banked turn such as Avus in Germany with the North Curve being purpose built 43 degree banked turn. The oldest high banked oval in the US is the 1/2 mile Winchester Speedway which has banking of 37 degrees and opened in 1916. Oval racing was accepted and loved around the world. Sadly, due to the lack of safety measures of the time, many bad accidents and fatalities caused top tier European motorsports to stray away from high banked ovals which led them to closing. Now that F1 and such are strictly street and roadcourse, I think it is more about pride to denigrate oval racing, as if demeaning something makes something else better. NASCAR may run mostly ovals, but they also put on some of the best roadcourse racing you will see and a number of former F1 drivers such as Montoya, Button and Raikkonen have learned are tough competition.

I was a casual racing fan when i was young, I found it entertaining but wasn't a diehard, then my dad took me to a Nascar race and I was hooked from then on, its a very visceral experience, it's gets all your senses going, the smell of the racing fuel, the sound and feel of the engines roaring by and the overall enviroment gets me pumped! I've gone to race almost every year now with dad since then and I absolutely look forward to any time I get to go to any nascar race

@liamkaleviАй бұрын
Thank you! Absolutely, watching it in person is something else!
@Manley410Ай бұрын
Tons of tracks have cars ride the wall. One of my favorite races of the year is chicagoland in the trucks and the top lane the entire way around the tracks saves tires the best so everyone wall rides
@RLBLaneyАй бұрын
18:31 it didn't really come across that well on video but I can confirm that feeling. I attended three races this year: The Spring Atlanta race (Ambetter Health 400) Look up the highlights for that and have your mind blown, New Hampshire (USA Today 301) and the Summer Talledega race (Yellawood 500) and that honestly felt louder than Monster Jam, my only other in-person experience of motorsports of any kind. It's an amazing thing to experience, and I'm glad people like you are learning that we ain't just a bunch of drunk hicks (though that is true, that isn't all we are) and that we're actually on to something with this turning left stuff.

This video was extremely well made, props! You mentioned the roots of dirt racing. I have two recommendations, a 410 Dirt Sprint car race, and a Dirt Motocross race! Sprint Cars are insanely fast and their power to weight ratio actually puts even F1 to shame and they race ON DIRT! You mentioned Bristol, and they have actually put Dirt on Bristol and raced them, a 410 goes faster around that track on dirt than a Cup Car does normally! Also, motocross takes that MotoGP party atmosphere, I'd recommend RedBud for Moto (which is always over July 4th weekend) And for Sprint Cars, the Knoxville Nationals is the premier event, but honestly any World of Outlaws event at Knoxville, Huset's, or anywhere for that matter would be a treat. Good luck with your new channel, this video was a treat to watch all the way through, I hope you enjoyed your time in the USA

11:00 Unlike almost all motorsports, NASCAR doesn't have podium for the top 3 drivers. Only the winner of the race gets to celebrate in victory lane. 12:11 NASCAR Cup races start a maximum of 40 cars, some of the bigger races like the Daytona 500 might get up to 50 cars trying to qualify for the race but only the 36 charter team and the four fastes uncharted teams will start the race. Some of the less popular and lower paying races will have starting fields lower than 40 car, 37 to 39 cars as all 36 charter teams have to start every race.

The Xfinity Series has a field size of 38 cars, and for trucks, it's 36 cars. If more cars than the field size show up for an Xfinity & Truck race, then in Qualifying the cars lowest on points that didn't make the Fastest 33 on Speed in Xfinity and the Fastest 31 in Trucks fail to Qualify.

You need to experience the top level of grass roots dirt racing! I recommend you go to the World Finals in Charlotte, North Carolina! At the World Finals you will see the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, World of Outlaws Late Models, and the Super DIRTcar series! All three series are the premier series in the nation for dirt racing. You will feel even more inclusive and get closer to the cars than in NASCAR. Just get a pit pass and you have free range over the entire facility! Charlotte is also the home of NASCAR, where most of the teams shops are, so you have plenty of opportunities to film more content on your downtime. I promise you won't be disappointed by the dirt cars!

to me, nascar isn't as much a show as it is a showcase of racing excellence. just look at the finish to the race you attended-- tyler reddick ripping the top & stealing the win away from ryan blaney on older tires on a track that chews said tires to pieces. i've been a fan for 20 years almost. thing is, i can tell you the sport used to be so much bigger than it is today. the way the champions are decided is flawed imo, and the culture between nascar media itself & diehard fans has divided in recent weeks. not to mention, is has lost ground to f1 in tv ratings stateside & is well behind it in the 18-34 age demographics. it doesn't have the pull in mainstream america like it did when i got into it in 2004 (very much like f1 is now). despite the sport's glaring flaws (that cannot go unchecked, mind you), attending a race is a hell of an experience. i got to go to the pre-season exhibition event in los angeles in february, and even though that marked a dozen times i've done this, it's something i still think about months later. i have my opinions but that's because i want what's best as a lifelong fan. i'm glad you're getting into it, and i hope you become one of us in the process. welcome to the community :)
@liamkaleviАй бұрын
That makes sense. I think for me, it was just what stood out to me. Obviously they're all incredible racers competing at that level, but that is to be expected. Also, me attributing driving excellence to rally drivers may have more to do with me actually having experienced it in the car with a world champion, and also regional bias. 😄 Where do you think the divide between NASCAR media and the fans stems from? I'm curious. Thanks!
@nascarnationalАй бұрын
@liamkalevi first off, you're lucky as hell to ride in rally car with a champion. that's pretty cool. you're welcome fyi 🫡 but i feel like the division between the fans & sport's media comes from the fact that nascar itself is quite stubborn with itself. it has an idea of what it wants to do with how the competition is, but the fans want it a different way. nascar is listening but i feel like more transparency & communication is needed. a bit more selflessness will go a long way, too. not to mention, the manufacturers & tv networks have a lot of power but they have too much of it, and it's hurting the sport imo. nascar needs to take the sport back within its own grasp. if they can do that i'll be more confident in them on that front haha
