This is a great addition, very promising indeed. Had a race couple of days ago in the open wheelers and was pleasantly surprised that is was not a wreck fest. Very civil racing to which can only get better.

I tried this tonight. Just joined the practice session after signing up to the service. Drove the radical a Zandvoort. I was pretty impressed with how easy it was to get started. Will definitely be doing races!!

I'm impressed with how well it has been considering it's a beta. I did some racing in it and like others have said, surprised how easy the experience was and also how clean the racing has been in these rookie races. In regards to the servers the dev's have said they have hit their account limit with Amazon and are working on improving. Guess even they were not expecting so many to be interested.

It's still in Beta. I am sure they will ramp up the races and servers once most of the kinks is sorted in beta and it's ready for release...hopefully.

Been driving this as RF2 is my favourite sim atm. Very suprised by the driving standards, much better than IR. I love that RF2 doesn’t have netcode issues and a little touch is ok. I agree that we should have 2 cars/tracks combos in the practice server every hour. Now there is 3 cars and tracks that run hourly, but i won’t learn 3 cars and tracks for a week so basically there is only 1 race in 3 hours for me while there is plenty enough drivers.

I like the fact that they are using a safety rating to promote clean racing the higher you go. I would also add a rating system for the cars. Higher power cars need more rating to drive them in competition. Great review Dave !

Ah i was waiting for you to drop a video on this after I saw gamermuscle’s. I agree with the rotation schedule you suggested, and honestly I think they will now that s397 sees how many people are interested. Also gives me hope for Le Mans ultimate . Which should have the caddy, which is my favorite car to drive in iracing. Good times for sim racing! Competition can only help us .

It's great to have this service for a game that it took me a while to warm to. I actually enjoyed reading the Competition Agreement. However, my Beginner races were not much different than iRacing Rookies, as I experienced a lot of 'bump to pass' attempts that ended up putting me off. With that said, I think Damage is set a little high in the Beginners class, as a wall tap after someone pushes you off will end your race. I do hope that they open up a large variety of races when the Ranked Race system is officially released and that there is a "social" aspect to it that will allow driver friending and messaging.

Hoping they can add more races more frequently. For example the Touring Car Championship being every 4 hours is too long like you said. They should look at how LFM structure the races.

I think they will out of beta, I like how the new RaceControm system feels a little more focused on fun. Not bound to real series and serous competition LFM goes for but still retaining the addictive rating system. I like the 4 different daily racing series that change hourly. In my eyes that's just the right amount of variety and time to get practice in for 10-15 mins, do a race, leave then register for the next series with different cars and track combo, rinse and repeat. It feels like an online shooter playing through different maps. The driving has been respectable and I think it shows as it focuses everyone on that race series in the hour, letting them prepare but still jump in and have a go. Its not cluttered with too much content that would spread out the player base. LFM was good but it had its issues. That alpine cup car felt like a mod car. The FFB was so grainy, it was a bad representation of what RF2 can feel like. Then with the good DLC cars, they struggled to hold a player base. People didn't buy them because they could see the number of players and time slots dropping off and didn't want to waste money. Unfortunately RF2 on LFM was failing, this gives me hope but its to early to tell.

*sigh* Ok, I guess it's time for me to give rFactor 2 a more serious look. I tried it a couple years ago but it was such a pain to get running right on my wheel and in VR that I just gave up. It's worth it. It runs great in VR for me with valve index/steamvr. At least as good as iracing and way better than acc, in my opinion.

@@daviddanser8011 I’m ok to be honest. It doesn’t offer anything I want at the moment from a sim so I’ll pass. But I’m glad it gives enjoyment to other people. iRacing is plenty for me right now and many of the cars I enjoy aren’t available on RF2. It’s just not for me.

Another KZbinr recently did a video called "This is What Your iRating Says about YOU" focusing on traits that drivers of various skill levels most commonly have/lack. He's an oval racer so some of it was quite specific to ovals. Could be an interesting framework for a video, naturally with a focus on road racing.

@@TheOGReeceAMS2 uses a peer-to-peer connection. Two players may be alright because they have regional connections, two other players in the same race have the same experience in another region, but the four of them can have issues among them (2 2).

I have enjoyed the hourly daily races with the free cars and tracks, very easy to jump into and have fun. The servers are filling up with around 80+ drivers. Good progression into advanced series and no subscription 😉

so funny, im really interested in starting simracing and really liked the look of iracing but the cost structure is really putting me off. Liked the look of raceroom and tbh still do as i love touring cars. but rf2 has the better graphics and arguably better physics so its probably what im gonna go for. and yes, i have raced in acc (so iguess its not the start of my simracing) but gt3 to me is a bit intense sometimes. keep the rfactor coming dave!

Same for me, iracing economical system is not for me. I enjoy rf2 since 1 year in open, league, endurances and LFM, about 1000hour of game and 170€ for all content

Hi Dave, I bought CSL DD and I’ve had one months use out of four. Just issues with the drive, I may possibly be able to refund it. What would you recommend for a DD? Just a good, solid, reliable drive? I still like fanatec but I’m really hesitant on the quality.

I'm in EU but I was really surprised since there were like 50 people registered for BMW on Lime Rock at 4am on monday so I guess other timezones also will be playable here atm races runs for 14hrs per day if I'm not mistaken but it will be 24/7 after launch

Unrelated but I did a Nurburgring Combined Fixed race in a touring car, and ran out of fuel halfway through the last lap. I was used to fixed races always having enough in the setup, is that normal? Should I pit next time or did I use too much (Edit, for some reason iracing decided that fixed setup has only enough fuel to run 2.6 laps or so)

You need to set fuel in the setup page, And some other available parameters note; in each session. A fixed setup in RF2 online is not always a 100% preset.

@@frunktain Don't get me wrong. FFB is leaps and bounds above anything else IMO. But given my real world experience in a handful of different amateur racing cars and karts. There are things that just do not make sense to me sometimes. If you're driving under the limit and staying off of curbs, no problem, no issues, feels great. But when over the limit or touching curbs with any amount of steering angle, really awkward things happen. RF2 really asks you to overdrive to be fast as well. Again, my opinion! But it also could be car/track dependent. RF2 is not particularly consistent in my limited experience.

It just caught my eye because usually the physics/feel is about the only thing many people will say that rf2 has done RIGHT :) I think that trying to convey all the real world forces a driver feels through just torque on a shaft means taking some liberties. It kind of can't be absolutely accurate. I just know rf2's version of this is my favorite. And yeah, the feel varies by car, but I think this is worst with mod content. Anyway, happy racing...cheers :)

At the beginner level it is all free. They can't use the free Steam Workshop stuff that they didn't create due to licensing (and probably quality control) issues. On the DLC side, it's some of the best in the business if you end up buying some.

I have tried it - again gave a rFactor2 another chance. Here is my take: Game freezes in main menu - settings do not store at change of settings, but after exiting game. So if you do not exit your game after changing settings and it crashes, you have to change settings again. VR in Menu is unusable - the menu is so close to the face and there is no way of moving it further away - very uncomfortable being in the menu VR support in general is not great. I would really love to see more support for people who wants to play in VR The gameplay was decent, but again in VR the HUD is too close and makes me feel nauseous. I had to turn it off for it to feel somewhat better. The graphics - this is a big point here. Watching your videos on how the game looks here is nothing how it looks for me. Even with all settings to the max, the game looks significantly worse for me. What gives?

I have tried maybe 6-7x that I can remember since I started simracing to give it a try, because of how amazing the FFB and Physics were supposed to be. But never did I manage to get it into playable and enjoyable state - even before I had VR(which I believe is big part of why I cannot get into it now)

You have to change your monitor resolution in game. That regulates the size of the UI in VR.
