Great video Jeff! I currently have a 2020 Niner RIP 9 RDO 4 star build and I absolutely love it. Most fun and confidence inspiring bike I have ever had. Just ordered a Fox DHX2 to try on it as it is coil friendly. The RIP 9 is not the most aggressive bike out there, but strikes that balance of being good everywhere and just feels right. Looking forward to your next video!

I just bought a Niner a couple weeks ago for my first gravel bike. It is a full custom built 2020 Niner RLT 9. I had no idea Niner stood for 29er, but of course it does! Ironically, I am running 650b HED Belgium+ rims (with I-9 hubs!) instead of 700c 29er’s. Gorgeous bike with great geometry for tackling everything from single track to long road rides. I ride a YT Jeffsy 27.5 for my mtb and just getting into gravel riding, but it made it a little more palatable buying a bike from a MTB brand.

I started MTBing in the late 80s, but fell out of the sport for decades. I got back into the sport by riding my BMX bike, (All I had at the time,) on the local trails in 2014. I demo'd bikes every chance I got. The first bike I demo'd was a niner ROS9, and coming from 20", even 26" felt ungainly and clumsy, so I was really worried that the "wagon wheel" wouldn't be much fun. Wow, was I wrong. Agile and capable, I ended up liking the the ROS9 more than many other demo bikes I rode, (Even the $10,500 Nomad V3, which I hated.) In fact, I have demo'd over 50 bikes in the past 5 years, and the ROS9 is still ranked as the 15th best, even over newer bikes, far more expensive bikes, many full suspension bikes, and even a few eBikes. I have also tested the SIR9, (loved it) the RKT9, (Great, but not enough travel for a fat guy like me,) the JET9 27.5+ (Made me a fan of 27.5+ wheels,) The old WFO9, (An all day, all mountain bike,) and the RIP9, (a gnarly bike.) I have discovered that I am definitely a Weagle snob when it comes to linkages, but niner's CVA is one of the few non-Weagle designs I can live with.

The rep/mechanic was so stoned out of his mind that no matter how many times I told him my weight for SAG, he still kept it at nearly the same pressure. So riding the trail at 55% SAG didn’t give me a good feel of the bike at all. Unfortunately it turned me off on the brand for years. With Syd and Macky I’m back to revisiting the brand.

I've been riding a Niner ROS 9 since 2015. Love the bike and the company, but the geo is quite dated by modern standards and it looks like they've sort of lost their way when it comes to hardtails. Even their full sus bikes, with the exception of the RIP 9, are sporting old school geo. At this point there are newer companies making more compelling bikes, sort of what Niner was when it got going in 2004.
