Totally remember when I got my tascam 424 mk2. It consumed my teenage years. I wish i was smart enough to get it fixed when it broke 8 years later.

@@teddybearasaurus Unfortunately I worked with way too much tape on the reel to reels and cassettes that when the disk drives came out in the late 80s I started the transition. By the early 90s I had completely moved on. I still remember all the hastles of tape and heads so it keeps me from getting nostalgic. If Tascam was to come out with a 488 with the technology we have now and Maxell or Tascam would start releasing some C15s or C30s at a decent price I may be tempted.

This was the first recording hardware I ever owned. I was recording my key player on his upright piano and there was some static I was able to isolate and it was Wayne himself nose breathing. Gotta love analog.

That was the first recorder for me I got for Christmas as a kid. I’d record drums from my Casio for like 2 minutes, then bass, keys, guitar. No clue what I was doing but it was always fun

I had a 424 back in the mid 90s, and now I have a 414. Love a good 4 track machine!! I’ve been using one with my digitakt and digitone, and it’s as fun now as it was when I was much younger :)

Haha no way, I just picked up a reel to reel tape recorder for a similar usecase. Problem is that you either go cheap on used stuff or buy new old (if you can) and hope everything inside is still working. Not really a problem if you know how to solder
