I think starting perennials would be profitable for you... rudbeckia, daisies, peonies, sedum (you can propagate those in july and they come back with vigor in spring)... I'm in zone 6 too and I think people in my area love potted plants more than cuts.. however the area right outside the greenhouse...a zinnia cut patch..just benary giant variety. I know I'd love that!

I might do that!

Having built my small business up from a hobby to a successful family business, I'd like to applaud you. You have the right attitude - Work hard, cultivate patience, do your research, try new things, stay within a budget and reinvest your profits to grow. I automatically respect someone who says "I made an Excel spreadsheet" for income and expenses. I've always done that. You've got a great property location and setup. Curb appeal will be very important. While you're busy growing things inside to sell, keep the outside beautiful to make people want to come in and incorporate colorful, cheerful signage. Add some flags and whirligigs to add motion - That makes the place look busy and enticing. You're going to do great! You just earned yourself a new sub. :-)

God Bless! What a progression. Yes it needs work, but you'll get there. May I suggest shelving such as the metal ones that are 4 or 5 shelves high. You can have them set up to accommodate starting seeds, others to accommodate seedlings and small plants, and others to accommodate larger plants. Some could store supplies and tools. Make sure to use surge protectors for electrical stuff - I thought my lights were on surge protectors and it was just a power strip. Had an electrical surge and 5 lights, a timer, and the power strip are TOAST.

Plants get shocked from being watered with cold water, we had a large water tank set up to allow the water to warm prior to using. That’s likely what the tank is for. Also I’d be mindful of common pests that may be lingering from what was grown prior in the greenhouse, such as the dreaded spider mites and thrips, which also love dahlias!

I'm excited for you! I make more from Flowers grown in my high tunnel than I do the outside spaces. Mostly because of the wind protection.

Alex against that concrete wallet on the back of the greenhouse you can build some cold frames to harden off some clones. Or have a cold frame with course sand to make clones. That wall is a great shade area for cloning outside.

How about some early crops as stock, early snaps, ranunculus. Have an area for starting seeds. The base could have been a compost plate or something like that?
@conservfriends96512 жыл бұрын
With the warming of the seasons soon, you might want to consider a high tunnel shade cloth. Also, with all the predictions of food shortages, some sort of produce might be a smart option.
