Mombasa is beautiful in its own way. I would absolutely not want to see Nairobi-like highrise buildings in Mombasa because that would take away what the city is all about. It is an old city that developed way before all this modernity that is in Nairobi and it preserves very important history as it is. And btw, you'll realize that you need sunglasses and a cap while in Mombasa.

Mosf of the people in Mombasa are actually Christian. Contra to what people assume. Muslims are not the majority there but there is a presence of them there. Arabic is common to Islam, but that does not make it a common language in Coastal Kenya. Even, Kiswahili is a Bantu language with a SMALL influence from Arabic, German, Portuguese, Persian and English because of trade. Let's not be carried away by false narratives spread over the years. Coastal Kenya is dominated by Kenyan Coastal Bantus who are the original inhabitors of the Coastline. Other people/groups only arrived through trade and settled but never outnumbered the locals.

I'd say it's 60-40 in favor of Muslims. The electoral representation is normally a reflection of the religious dynamics of a place. Almost all MPs and MCAs in Mombasa are Muslims, so are the governor, senator and women rep. Malindi county is where we have a Christian majority.

I beg to differ with all due respect, I have read many of your responses in many clips, u strongly defend Kenya, quick to dismiss rumours and hearsays, very patriotic. I applaud u bro. On Islam, Mombasa is predominantly Muslim, I have lived here and done demographic research., it is indeed a Muslim city and the entire coastal strip. Christianity ndio imeanza kushika, and the wave is moving strong with watu bara migrating in droves to coast, unfortunately through funny churches in Mishomoroni, along Bamburi Kisauni, etc, the "nakurudishia nyota yako or kuinua madhabao doctrine" type, so unfortunate.., I know Mombasa inside out, to the core hadi kwa shrines and MRC (Mombasa republican council) even the current leader is my buddy from mreroni...,

@@sheqel10 Thanks. Census 2019: Kenya had a Muslim population of roughly 5.6 million people, according to the last country census conducted in 2019. Nearly 50 percent of individuals adhering to Islam lived in the Northern-East counties of Mandera (856.5 thousand people), Garissa (815.8 thousand people), and Wajir (767.3 thousand people). Overall, around 10 percent of Kenya's population identified as Muslim. For Mombasa County 450.7 thousand people are Muslim. Comparisons show that in Mombasa, Christians and Muslims (59% and 41%, respectively). According to the 2019 census, there are significantly more Christians (2.4 million) than Muslims (1.6 million) in the six counties of the coast. The government estimates as of 2019 approximately 85.5 percent of the total population in Kenya is Christian and 11 percent Muslim. The thing with Mombasa and the Coastal towns, there are pockets of heavy concentration of Muslims e.g if you go to Old Town all you will see is Muslims, but that is not representative of entire Mombasa County. Muslims in Kenya generally are a small population.

Here they go, trying to Arabize Kiswahili!! If you want to know about Kiswahili and its Bantu connection, engage the Miji Kenda's of Coastal Kenya!! Kiswahili is over 75% Bantu!! The original inhibitors of Coastal Kenya.
@esem135
@esem135 Жыл бұрын
@Ug Connect Kiswahili is a Bantu language. Forget this Arabic nonsense. Look for the Miji Kendas of Kenya. Tell them to speak Miji Kenda languages and then compare it with Kiswahili words. Then be the judge. Our history has been distorted over the years because it was being told by foreigners to our land, and they twisted things. Ask Arabs who sold slaves on the East African Coast what happened to them and why the Arabs never write or speak about it!! They were more monster than the white colonizers. They castrated them so they could not sire children. They are the same ones who have twisted the Kiswahili narrative to seem more Arabic than it actually is. Most of the people you see cling to this narrative are Arab descendants or ignorant people who have believed warped narratives that are far from the truth. Africans should tell and start to not just with textbook naratives. We have been lied to for too long because those who were writing our story twisted a lot of things that we must unlearn.

guys understand my point....swahili is a "collection" of languages including arabic, hindi, portuguese and the bantu language.....my point was, swahili had no alphabets of its own back in the day prior to the coming of the british hence the language was written in arabic alphabets....for all arguing please research before blindly stating facts that you are uncertain of....

@@esem135 ooh the slave trades well you forgot to mention the americans and the brits who only abolished it in the late 1800s....before you criticize and ridicule, remember that the arabs are the ones who revolutionalised and brought huge changes and made names for major coastal cities through trade...islands like Kilwa (if u ever heard of it) leave alone mombasa were some of the cities even Vasco Da Gama was mesmerized by its development when he got here...I wonder who fought off portuguese rule in Mombasa and if you know of how the portuguese really treated the locals....
@DumeJeusi

Most people in Mombasa are actually Christians. This is according to the last census. Arabic usage is quite low since most local Arabs are intermixed with locals and assimilated into Swahili culture. Mombasa's old names are Kongowea, Gongwa, Nyale and Mwambadza. I would say Mombasa and Swahili culture and accent is more Miji Kenda ( a coastal Bantu tribe which means Nine Clans). Mombasa is also busy everyday except sunday mornings when most people go to church. Your guide is non-native and has got some info wrong despite his best efforts. Mumbasa and Mombaza are wrong interpretations of the city's name. Maybe it would best to show a tickerbox correcting some things especially where the letter R and L is mixed up eg Achari and some other little misinformations.

No shade but this guide is under-selling Mombasa. He's clearly not from Mombasa. How is chai called coffee? Mombasa isn't coffee-city and Sudan currency is not greater than Kenyan currency and those elephant tasks were placed in honour of Queen Elizabeth's sister "M" for Margaret. Not "M" for Mombasa 😏😏😂 stop lying man

The dude doesn't even know who Chirau Mwakwere is and he's saying Kenya gained independence in 1964 😂. Surely, Kenya's internal self rule was 1 June 1963 and full independence was 12 December 1963. Yes true for Margaret the queen's sister not Mombasa
