Ableton didn't changed how latency compensation works. This means the GUI still isn't compensated, Plugin latency compensation works fine as always, but the host transport information the plugins receive is still not compensated at all, means time based actions of devices that syncing to transport won't be compensated which is a problem when placed after stuff like a linear phase EQ etc. So unlike many people believe there aren't latency issues in the sense of flawed programming, but in design decisions and lacking options to change that behavior.

I really think Ableton should make a shortcut to edit values in automation. Now you have to right click and choose "edit value" from the menu.
@rez91595 ай бұрын
I think we don't even need a shortcut, they could just temporarily hijack the focus when the mouse is hovering above the automation point for the time the value is displayed, so you can directly type in the value like it is possible everywhere else in Live for click- and editable stuff with a permanent value display, like encoders etc. If you have a Stream Deck you can easily add a multi action to a button: right click, down, left click.

I don't know about "Cthulhu Killer", even if it did let you activate/deactivate positions. Cthulhu has so much more than JUST Arp sequencing. It has Random select, Octave, pitch and gate that are SUPER powerful for unique sequencing plus 12 pages for variations that can also be controlled via automation, on top of that, Rate, swing and Gate along with the aforementioned options are all "Page" independant. For $40 bucks, I don't think there will ever be a "Cthulhu Killer"...or, at least you will be REALLY hard up to defeat it.

I strongly recommend to use the latest beta, Ableton added / brought back very useful stuff like hiding the track I/O in arrangement view without menu diving and hiding clip and device view together instead of individually. Grouping plugins per developer to access them in a folder view is also possible again. Generally i like the upgrade but i still missing stuff like a latency compensated GUI and also a compensated host transport information so that stuff like LFO Tool, Volume Shaper etc. is usable after latency introducing plugins without workarounds like manual sample offset or midi trigger. My second concern is the tag system. A tag system in general is a good idea, the implementation is inconsistent.

Do note that on windows 12 now requires a CPU that supports AVX2 instruction set. Most people won't be affected by this, but for instance, CPU's that are older than a 5th generation i5 will crash and 12 will not load. Ever. They note this on support site now. This is now an issue with Adobe Premiere/AfterEffects, as well as Maxon Cinema 4D 2024/Redshift. Time for an upgrade.

I discovered your and channel and really very interesting. Thank you for sharing and your report. When you say that 100 tracks with Live, that sounds like a dream. I have a 13th generation i7 and 64 gigs of RAM and with 6 tracks it cracks everywhere. When you talk about 100 tracks (these are audio tracks, not midi tracks?), I suppose that this is a project where there must have been massive freezes of midi audio tracks? I am totally disappointed by the management of live's CPU resources, for my part a real disaster. I would really like to have your objective opinion if you wish on this famous CPU resources of Live 11/12. The CPU load is the same or is it really better managed on Live 12? Many thanks in advance for your response.
@OscarUnderdog5 ай бұрын
Hi! I'm a bit surprised that 6 tracks causes stress on your CPU - that really shouldn't be the case and sounds maybe like your buffer size is set incredibly low? Or some other issue of your audio card driver? What interface are you using? Because that's not the typical experience, even in live 11, even on a windows intel CPU. My use case is that I'm on a macbook pro m1, and this is definitely the smoothest experience I've ever had of the DAW, it doesn't lag and maxing out the CPU is pretty much unheard of. I was working on a 200 track project on Live 11, and there it was getting a bit laggy. I do bounce things to audio regularly, and I'm aware of which are the heaviest CPU drain plugins, but it's not nearly as cumbersome as what you describe...
@PHOENIX-fb1cf5 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for your answer. I don't understand anything about it either. My PC is optimized for PC. 512 stamps. Arturia Audiofuse 16 Rig. This result really worries me. It is true that I use vst which consumes CPU, but still. I mainly use (Omnisphere 2, Trilian, U-he, Gforce, Pigment and V collection, Avenger). But still 6 tracks is really astonishing and surprising, even with CPU-heavy VST. I even wondered if I should invest in a Mac Studio M2 Ultra. Apparently, without getting into the Mac / PC debate, Mac is more stable, better CPU load management. Which could be explained by the more defined components with a Mac.

@@PHOENIX-fb1cf yeah I was windows my whole life and switched to mac 2 years ago, and I kinda regret not switching earlier - there's a lot less worrying about settings etc, everything has been much smoother. In my opinion Ableton is at this point far behind FL-Studio. The implementation of their own cloudservice/sample-bib. and AI-stemsplitting, as well as the mastering and distribution-options in the latest update, makes it a more rounded package for beginners and is peak on time. Also on FL you have livetime free updates - did i understand right you have to pay for updateing your Ableton?
