Don't be fooled. "The Temple Bar" is just a pub cashing in on the name of a neighbourhood. Temple Bar is actually a street that runs from Fleet Street to East Essex Street. Way back in the eighties, CIE the national transport company started buying properties around Temple Bar with a view to creating a major transport interchange. They couldn't allow long leases in case that disrupted their plans so they offered short leases instead. As a result, a sort of Bohemian quarter grew up as mainstream businesses weren't interested in short leases . When CIE eventually abandoned their plans, the state noticed the special environment that had accidentally been created, so intervened to make Temple Bar a cultural quarter. That has since faded a bit as commercial tourism took over, but there is still a sort of magic around, albeit diluted by commercial tourism at this stage.

Being honest what I say to people outside Ireland about visiting is you cannot say you've been to Ireland until you go outside of Dublin County it's that different from the rest of the country
@LeMerch
@LeMerch Жыл бұрын
Why does everyone say this? We all know a big city is different to the countryside. Yet people constantly put my home city down and its annoying how common it is.

It is a Tour of Dublin. It is what it says on the tin. Keep your prejudices for another medium. If you went to New York you would not see The Grand Canyon or Niagra Falls. What I dislike about people from outside Dublin is they always denigrate it, but Dublin people are forever telling the tourists about what part of the country they should visit, usually their favourite part, Kerry, Donegal or my favourite, Galway city!!!! I have worked in the tourist industry in Dublin as a musician. Dublin is the most popular tourist destination in Ireland, there is a reason for that. It is a friendly, safe, clean city.

@@karlbyrne6021 To make a successful internal economy we need about 10 million people. We are way shy of that. The Romas are only a drop in the ocean. You want to see some of the cities in Germany, that would open your eyes.

Temple Bar is actually the area. The fact that someone opened a pub with that name is pure pandering to the tourists. Locals tend to refer to the area as Temple Barf because of all the visiting ‘stag’ and ‘hen’ parties etc.? Yes the fee to see the Book of Kells is expensive but that also covers the library and various other things. I really wish people would shut up about Guinness and pints. I’ve lived in Dublin all my life and have managed without any of it-along with a lot of other people. Also history didn’t begin in 1916. There have been people in the area for thousands of years and a visit to the National Museum (free admission) in Kildare St and Collins Barracks is well worth it.

As a Dubliner I can say it's dirty,no police visible and way too expensive.Avoid temple bar like the plauge if you want to have a real pint of Guinness.O'Connell Street is horrible and full of scumbags.I would recommend you head on the Dart and go to the South Dublin Coast (Dalkey/Killiney),very beautiful.

Irish folk, including Dubliners give the city such a hard time. I'm a Mayoman (west of Ireland) who lived in Dublin during my 20's and I loved it there. I have traveled the world and lived in cities in different countries. Dublin is actually a fantastic city. It's a pity us Irish folk don't appreciate how great our capital and country really is.
