My first look at the Hang On tree stand by Realtree ($25 Walmart Special)

My first time with the Realtree hang on tree stand. Tree stand seems to be a pretty good stand with a few modifications the main one being got to have a new strap. I will be replacing the straps with an actual ratchet strap for my use and then I will be adding a few washers to the seat to make it a little bit tighter. For the most part I believe it will be a fairly good tree stand. I bought three of these tree stands for $25 a piece after deer season from Walmart on a big clearance sale.

I have purchased several Realtree branded stands from Walmart over the years. I believe they are made by Primal. Not junk by any means.

I bought a couple if these for $25 about 20yrs ago. They're still in use today. They came with a chain to attach to the tree, which will never break or rot. The only thing ive ever done to them is put new cables on them. Oh and i changed the original hardware to grade 8. Yes they're heavy but i dont move them around. But for a $25 stand to last 20 years, how can you beat it!

I have used lock ons for over 25 years and I have a few climbers I think both have their pros and cons I like the lock ons where I’m tight to bedding just a lot quieter than a climber and I can get in any tree with the lock on I also don’t trust the pull strap alone I always use a ratchet strap with um

I get saving money but tree stands and safety harnesses aren’t where you want to go cheap. I know a guy that the cables snapped and he isn’t large maybe 5’8 maybe 150 pounds the minute he stepped on it both cables snapped thankfully he had a safety harness on. He went cheap on his stand and paid for it.

Not a chance I'd use 1 of these. I like my Summit. I can nap in it. That says it all as far as I'm concerned.

That factory strap is 10xs stronger than a ratchet strap

I don't think I could hunt in that longer that a couple hours, it looks super uncomfortable. I never was a fan of lock on stands. I like my Summit climbing stand. But for $25 Its not too bad for a back up stand. You still need climbing sticks for those too.
