I’m so glad you got to experience what the queens of heavy metal have to offer! If you’d like to check out more from them here’s a few more songs that show off Asami and the rest of the band: - Frozen Serenade (Live from Tokyo with lyrics) - A change of pace from Holy War and a great performance from Asami! - Swan Song (With Chopin intro from “Five of a Kind” 2020) - This one also includes their guitarist Miyako performing the Chopin Etude that inspired the song. She’s truly a multi-virtuoso! - Edge of the World (Live from “Five of a Kind”) - One of Asami’s best performances! - Glory To the World (Official Music Video) - Wickedly Fast, super technical, and with an inspiring message of mental health! - Judgement Day (Official Music Video) - A song from their latest album and first song released with their new bassist Fami. Of course, no pressure to do all of these! But if you enjoyed Holy War enough to at least check some of them out, you truly can’t go wrong with any of them! As always, thanks for the fantastic content. I love watching you break down musical performances and I always feel like I learn something, even if it’s a song I know well. Hope you have a lovely day!

Asami studied Ballet in her youth, including time in Los Angeles where she improved her English. Due to ballet not having a need for many 4'10" ballerinas she became a singer. She was mainly a R&B, Jazz singer before Lovebites. She actually knew nothing about metal music, but Miho, bass & band founder, recruited her. Being English fluent was important as all of their songs, the lyrics are in English. She is an excellent, powerful singer with full vocal missing in so much metal songs. Asami is the primary lyricist for the band.

So glad Elizabeth is finally getting to this band. They really do merit it. Each of the members is so strong and they really bring a powerful sound, with a hopeful, fun atmosphere. One fun thing that is a little hard to catch when they are on stage is that all the members (at this point) are around 5 feet tall. You'd never guess it, because on stage, they play like giants. Watch their drummer Haruna for evidence of that, she's a real powerhouse.

I am sure you will find out that there is a classical element attached to this group! Miyako is a classical trained pianist complete with degree, writes a lot of their music! Her Chopin Revolutionary etude in this concert is breathtaking as is the accompanied song Swan song!! A footnote: Asami started out as a R&B singer, backing vocals for a couple of well known groups! There is however at least 4 videos on YT of Asami singing at a club about 10 years ago if you would like to peruse! I absolutely love them!! Great reaction 🤟😎

A bit of history. There was this promising band called DestRose that around 2011-12 got a new roster with very young girls 19-20 years old. Among them there was a tiny cute drummer called _haruna_ and a wild metalhead bassist called _miho._ Shortly after _haruna_ got some personal stuff going on and left music to focus on real life. Not much time later _miho_ also left with the idea to make a new band, one that did sound like those groups from the 80s she loved. She didn't know a better drummer than _haruna,_ so in 2016 she convinced this awesome drummer she knew from her old band to come back to music, and also added to the project two guitar players that had been around the metal scene in Tokyo but never in big bands, _miyako_ and _midori._ But they missed a singer. The story of asami is somewhere else. She studied classical music and ballet since she was 8, spent two years in New York doing ballet, and for some time she was singing RnB and soul in some underground jazz-bars in Tokyo. Later she entered into contact with some pop groups doing backing vocals in studio, and then a couple big j-rock bands contacted her to do support vocals in some sections of their songs. A bit lost on her career, that made her think she might try luck in rock instead, and sent a demo tape to several labels. In 2016. At the same time the other 4 girls were looking for a singer. Once _miho_ crossed her tape she thought her voice could sound like Bruce's or Dio's if done properly, so they contacted her and interviewed her. They say it was something like "we do heavy metal". "What?". "That music like Metallica". "Who?". But there you have her now, leading the metal stages with enormous presence and femenine power and you can be sure she studied hard what Bruce, Dio, Rob Halford or other giants from that time were doing.

Named after the Grammy winning song Love Bites (So Do I) by Halestorm. Asami joined Lzzy at 2019 Download to perform that song. Some songs , like this one, lean towards power metal. Others, like Break the Wall and Thunder Vengeance ,lean towards thrash metal. Miho is on bass here, she left in 2021. Fami joined as the new bassist last October. Miyako and Midori on guitar, and Haruna on drums. All are between 4' 9" and 5' 2". Yes, check out Miyako's Chopin piano intro on Swan Song. Also Hammer of Wrath from the upcoming DVD Knocking on Heaven's Gate, to see Fami.

Regarding endurance: They do this for two hours in their concerts, at this intensity, and in fact in their last recorded concert ("Heavy Metal Never Dies") they actually ended the set with Holy War. Yeah, not just a keyboard but a full piano on stage, so it has to be set up some distance from the band. It's fun to watch Miyako have to run from the piano intro to get into place for her guitar part and then get back at the end for the outro, but it's equally fun to watch the band adjust with one eye on her to allow her to do it. They put on a great show and really seem to work well together. They have a lot of material worth a watch.

For those that aren't familiar with Elizabeth's channel, she covers a ton of ground reacting to vocalists and bands from around the world; and because of how vast the musical worldscape is, she can't really afford to be diving into any deep rabbit holes exploring any given band's discography in depth. If she listens to more than 2 or 3 songs from LOVEBITES, I would be really [pleasantly] surprised; so don't get your hopes up too high. Although I'd love her to check out Swan Song, I don't think it's different enough from Holy War to give her a feel for the variety in their styles and Asami's scope of ability. Lovebites' stroke of genius was to look for a singer who had NEVER sang metal before - Asami was a jazz/gospel/R'n B singer before, and usually a backup singer! Being excellent musicians, they heard Asami's warmth, power and incredible range and knew she was the one. An important thing was that she had been a ballerina, so discipline and stamina was no problem.

Asami's vocal career started off as a backing singer for pop/rock bands like VAMPS and UVERworld (the earliest video I've seen of Asami is her singing for UVERworld at Budokan on Christmas 2011) and hip hop artists AK-69 and, as of this writing, just finished up a tour singing backup for solo artist Sayaka Yamamoto. Asami also had a few small shows as a solo artist during her career, but ultimately she decided that she wasn't going anywhere. Wanting to do something different, Asami recorded a rock demo of herself singing "Love Bites (So Do I)" by Halestorm, and that demo found its way to Miho, the bass guitarist in this video. Asami was the last of the original five ladies to join; Miho and drummer Haruna were in the band Destrose together, and they knew guitarists Midori (blonde) and Miyako (brunette) from the Japanese rock/metal festival scene. The four instrumentalists were all fresh out of failed bands but decided to make music together since they were all free. Once they got Asami, they were complete! They decided to name themselves after the song that they first played together and have since released four albums, three EPs, one single, and seven (soon to be eight) live releases in one form or another. Sadly and surprisingly, Miho left the band in August of 2021, but the new bass guitarist, Fami, has healed the sorrow in the hearts of the fans and rejuvenated the band.

Welcomed to the mind-blowing world of Lovebites and spreading the word because they need more recognition. These women are extremely talented, skillful and versatile exceptional musicians and their live performances are really outstanding. Asami used to sing R&B, soul and jazz before she joined Lovebites. Those twin lead guitar solos by Midori and Miyako are already legendary, in just six years. Miyako is also a concert level classical pianist. In an interview, Miho (founder of the band, who left in August 2021) said that they wanted to play as heavy as men but keeping their femininity. For you, my next recommendations are “Edge of the world”, “Empty daydream”, “Epilogue”, “Chopin Etude + Swan song”. song”, “Frozen serenade”, “Liar” (all live)

The lead vocal Asami writes lyrics and also composes for this band. The black hair guitarist Miyako is a classic pianist and plays full scale Chopin as an intro of their metal. She has composed a lot of Lovebites songs. Ah both of them are mothers of cute girls. So definitely super moms!

Asami can, and does, hold that penultimate note TWICE as long (a full 8 bars), and with NO vibrato during the 2021 "Ride for Vengeance" performance of the song. And it is very fitting, because she is slightly unstable on the same phrase leading into the guitar battle mid-song, so It's as though she summons the might to win the war at the end! Judging by this reaction, it seems I wasn't that far off when I wrote in my comment to your last Iron Maiden reaction: "I think it is safe to say that Lovebites would make you go absolutely bonkers!" It was a real pleasure to see how much you enjoyed this! If I'm not mistaken, people in the chat during the premiere already managed to get you interested in the live version of "Swan Song" with the preceding Chopin intro which also seems to be one of the most recommended songs in the comments so far, so I hope it will be next. Even then, you would have heard only a minor part of the range of different "old school" metal styles they play. You'd still have to discover e.g. their Thrash Metal-side, their Maiden-ish side, their progressive side, their Hard Rock-side and their balladesque side. (They haven't played Doom Metal yet, though.)

@MissLoonasSpeech
@MissLoonasSpeech Жыл бұрын
@@Vatvor Pseudo-objective comment. When you say there are better better bands, what you actually mean is bands you like better, which reflects just your personal musical taste. In case you should actually think that there are bands covering exactly the same range of different old school metal styles which Lovebites do, but doing it better, then name them so I can check them out, and also explain why exactly you think they do it better! BTW, I think you should leave it to Elizabeth to decide, if she would like to hear more of Lovebites or not. Imagine someone had recommended a song to you by a band so far unknown to you and you really loved it, and then someone else would say to you: "One song of this band is enough, there are more and better bands you could listen to." How would that sound to your ears?
@Vatvor

@@MissLoonasSpeech I didn't tell her not to listen to any more of them, but that an analysis of them is enough so that there is time for other bands. There was more than enough old school metal, there is more interesting stuff. Bands that really do something new.

Holy War is far from their most impressive technically. You have not yet seen their full power. Also, lotsa classical training in this band. Main composer was playing piano from some single digit age and was going to Japan’s top music school for it before deciding to go metal and picked up the guitar. I.e. that black haired guitarist, as good as she is on guitar she has an extra decade and a half on the piano and in music in general. They know what they’re doing. IIRC Asami even trained as a classical dancer at one point.

@johnplaysgames3120 yep, some R and B., though her primary niche was a full on 70s style soul sound/timbre and a bit like the Diana Krall leaning Jazz style delivery that Charlotte Wessels (formerly in Delain and now solo) they use to separate themselves from the more straight laced conservatory style mezzo and full soprano female vocal deliveries that dominate symphonic and power metal.

Welcome to the world of Lovebites, who are, in my opinion, the gold standard of metal music today. Be forewarned that once you go down this rabbit hole, you will not come out. The deeper you go into their music, the more you will hear different styles of metal. I can go on all day about how great they are. Asami's background in singing is R&B. A little trash, a little power, a little of melodious and you got them. So much talent in a band should be illegal. Brightest shines the introvert dark haired guitarist. Just as the other guitarist she started with piano at early age, and when she deicided to switch to guitar, she was a concert level pianist. She compose most of their material, and is highly influenced by classical composers. If you check out "swan song w/Chopin intro" live 2020, you will get a taste of it.
