One thing I appreciate about Vocaloid culture is the cycle of creativity and collaboration it creates. It’s not just the song, there might be someone else who illustrates the characters in the song, and someone else again to create the music video. And after the song has been released, other people may feel inspired to cover it, or to cosplay as the characters, or create fanart… or memes. And the cycle continues.

My introduction to Vocaloid was when I was 10 years old and my cousin in high school showed me the video for Scissorloid. At the time I genuinely didn't know things could be "dark" so I was mind blown when there was blood and betrayal shown in the song. It sent me down a very deep rabbit hole and every time I found a new song I would be so excited to hear it. The topics in a lot of the songs helped me grow up and honestly cope with a lot of hard things life threw at me. It gave me a new gateway to express how I felt through art and music. I was in a social skills class when I was young. It was a class for kids with special needs to learn about social skills. I actually had a lot of fun there, and I made some good friends. During my time in the class, I had discovered Vocaloid music, mainly Miku and Luka. They were in a stop motion video made by Moonshine animations. At first, i didn't know who they were or where they came from. I was later informed that they were virtual singers known as Vocaloids. I was infatuated with their music, and I became hooked ever since. And every time my class went on a field trip, I would listen to Vocaloid music on my phone whenever I needed to occupy myself. Being a musician and all around nerd for music, people often ask me if I dislike vocaloids. I honestly think they’re some of the most creative projects I’ve seen in our modern music cultures. I mean, someone made a synthesizer that mimics a voice, which is already really cool on its own, but then someone had the idea of using that technology to build a character and an entire project around that character! That’s so incredibly cool! It’s an astonishingly fun amalgamation of sound design, character writing, and storytelling! There’s nothing out there quite like it (to my knowledge) and that’s why it’s so impressive to me. Plus, it’s inspired countless brilliant artists as well. Just take a look at “Sad Machine” by Porter Robinson! So excited to see this evolve in the future :)

I went to my first Miku concert in April this year, it was Miku Expo and it was honestly much better than what people have made it out to be, I don't really go to concerts that much, but that was one of the most fun one I've been to so far.

This has gotta be one of my life goals. I think it’s so cool how a computer can animate all these movements, moving a character along to the beat of the music, while a band can play along completely live! Vocaloid is such a unique style of music

I went to this concert in Osaka and it was great! I’d really recommend Magical Mirai if you can get in because the expo part is really neat and the general production value is a much higher. The best Vocaloid concert I’ve ever been to was actually the Project Sekai concert. Just an utterly incredible experience all around

Imagine how popular she'd be now if she actually got to sing at Coachella in 2020. Also, i highly recommend checking out Miku's recent song, Electric Chair 😏

Bro, that's not necessary. Things don't have to be popular to be good, what's more, sometimes it's better if they aren't
@NexAngelus405 Жыл бұрын
@Senku-le1ze But it does make it easier to find people with whom you can talk about it. A decade ago, when I would talk to people about anime, they'd either mock me for it or pretend to understand what I'm talking about in order to be polite before changing the subject. Now that anime is gaining more mainstream popularity, I can more easily find people to converse with and have meaningful discussions about it. I'd just like the same thing to happen with Vocaloid.
@Senku-le1ze Жыл бұрын
@@NexAngelus405 I think you can just seek for people that share your same interests, I don't think it would be a problem if more people just get to know this things, were not for prevailing culture in our current society, in wich people engage with things they are not truly interested in, don't understand, and as a result bring about negative changes. I mean, there's not guarantee for this to happen, but anyways it is better not to take the risk

Omfg if I saw perfectionist complex live I would simply dissolve into a pool of tears, I love that song so so much!!! I love vocaloid so very much. I feel like maybe the potential anonymity it allows creators really opens the door for such deep and impactful self expression, as much as it does silly goofy laughs. I love it so so much :’)

I discovered Vocaloid from an old anime magazine around 2009 talking about Miku. At first I thought virtual singers was absurd. So I went on KZbin and watched Vocaloid music videos and I just got hooked. Plus, I was just beginning to go through my weeb phase as well! I then heard about the PSP games "Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA", and I downloaded a demo. I loved it and was obsessed with it! I kept this secret to myself because I didn't want to embarrassed myself. A few years later around my junior year in HS, I introduced Vocaloid to a close friend of mines. At first he thought it was ridiculous, but he then fell into the Vocaloid rabbit hole as well! He became more of a fan than myself. He then showed it to the other otaku kids at school. I believe my friend spread the "Miku-Miku Bacteria" to everyone and they too became Vocaloid fans later on. It was great!

I know nobody is going to actually read this because I'm an insignificant person and my comment will probably get buried anyway, but I feel the need to express my love for Hatsune Miku by explaining my time at a MIKU EXPO My very first Vocaloid/Miku concert I ever went to which I will never forget to this day, was at Toronto Canada at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts back in I believe 2016. At the time, it was an experience like no other for me. I was already a huge Miku fan so going into this for the very first time, I had the widest grin on my face during the performances from beginning to end. The holographic technology, the amazing and fluent performances, the sheer adrenaline rush I felt when listening to the band play each song as Miku and the others sang along to it, the fan interaction we got to have when waving our glowstick to the tune and rhythm of the songs, it was absolutely magical. One of the most memorable things for me personally when attending this specific concert was when this mustached gentlemen much older than me in a professional tuxed suit who worked at the Sony Centre (he was one of the workers in charge of making sure people went in and out of the venue in a stable manner) came up to me before the concert and was so confused and afraid asking me timidly, "If you may be so kind as to help me here, what is a "Vocaloid"? " Since the concert wasn't gonna start for a while and the lines were still pretty long, I took the time to explain to him everything he needed to know as best as I could. He understood well enough for his nerves to calm down and guess what? Right after the concert concluded, I got to see that same gentlemen again when I walked out of the hall and he had the most ecstatic and happiest look on his face. He got to experience first hand what a Miku concert was all about and as it turned out, he loved every second of it just as I did and I got to spend some time with that man gushing at eachother about how awesome the concert was and how amazing the technology and graphics used for it were and what not. On that day, not only did I get to experience my very first holographic Hatsune Miku related concert, but I got to play a part in helping an employee from that very building become a fan of it going forward. Moments like those are a testament to how Miku & friends, the producers who make their songs and CFM as a company manage to bring many people from all walks of life together in order to enjoy fun and beautiful music.

I was supposed to go to the Miku Expo in 2020 (but we know how that ended) and haven't got the chance to go to a concert again. Vocaloid genre is my whole life and basically 90% of the music I listen to. Been in the Fandom for more than a decade and will continue to be.

I just got home from my first miku concert ! Miku expo Vancouver 2024! I was so happy and excited ! There was some bumps but that didn’t affect me enjoying my first miku concert , near the end I started crying when miku said “ bye ! And don’t forget where ever you are / we are , we are always connected!” I cried ! Also apparently .. someone pissed on the floor level during the middle of the concert , don’t know if they got kicked out We didn’t get a projection screen , we had a big led screen. Merch was sold out , i was extremely disappointed Ok so Outside merch booth opens at 2 pm Doors open at 7 Concert starts 8 With vip ( which I was to ) we get in a hour early cause there is always the inside merch booth right ? There was .. but they only had like 3 things left The outside booth earlier used all of the inside merch booths stock and I was heart broken hoping to get a light stick or something . Regardless I still had an amazing time I hope to go to next years one !!!
