Thank you for the lesson, Juliano! My 670ZX just stopped playing. Everything else works fine - VU meters work and FF and Rew are Ok. I was looking for a capstan belt, found one, then went looking for the way to install it. I think, after seeing you replace it, that the solution is to sell it to someone with the time and experience to make it like new. Thank you again!

I understood this video that Nakamichi's deck is easy to remove transport. We also polished the pinch roller with sandpaper, which was helpful. Even so, I was surprised with your great concentration. It is a wonderful repair skill.

Great job! I came here trying to understand what would be required to restore my old 660ZX, and what ive seen is that I need to find someone as skilled as you-! I'm probably able to remove the transport section, but too much more involved without a understanding what happened during your fast vid sections....Hopefully I can find some good tape player repair closer by- well done Juliano!

Fascinating vid. You are ONE HANDY DUDE! I bought a 682ZX on Ebay about 10 years ago for $500 and was stunned when it arrived. It looked like a brand new deck, not a single scratch on it anywhere, and performance was perfect. To this day it performs flawlessly. I love it. Also have RX-505, purchased new back in the day- totally different design concept and just as fun to play with. This is weird: I have a black screwdriver with a yellow end that is EXACTLY like yours. I have no idea where I got it!

Hi Juliano. I just went after the transport on my 682ZX. Original owner but in storage for years and idler wheel and belts needed replacing. This was invaluable - thank you! Question. After re-assembly the flywheels seem to be producing a little friction slowing down playback. That or the reel motor needs lube or replacing. I didn't notice the quick spot of lube you applied to the flywheels - any recommendations? Basic 3-IN-1? Thanks so much.

Thank you for sharing this video. I just got my first 600ZX and I am also restoring it. It has a lot of the same problems. The grease has turned to glue and the belts are stretched. Also the capstans are frozen to their shafts. But Its going to be a great project. I will also go through the audio caps when done to upgrade the sound when I am done to enhance the overall performance.It's a keeper.

@manzanaresantonio5 жыл бұрын
Don't be afraid. Just take a lot of pictures and make a video of the process and which screws you remove and the correct placement of the parts. I was a fraid too and look at me now working on decks like the BIC T-4M and AIWA AD-F990 that are a serious pain in the butt to work on. It looks difficult, but it's all logical. Make sure you are careful not pulling on wires too hard or putting too much pressure on the boards and Capacitors. Your 680ZX looks almost identical to this one as it has the classic Nakamichi mechanism (The best cassette mechanism ever)
Great video, I notice you didn't check or change the grease in the transport motors, still great job. I've had a few deck in my day started of, JVC KD-55, NAK 480, then a couple NAK CR-3A's, But Nothing like my recent purchase, NAKAMICHI DRAGON, been wanting one since the early 80's, sound is extremely awesome, and a keeper for life.

I really like 600 series, the main reason is the sound, they produce warm and incredible sound stage, I have one problem with 660 that it doesn't have monitor switche, so having a 3 head cassette deck that you can't compare between source and tape, so it better to have 670 if you like analog vu meters.

Good job, playback sound is stunning on those 6**ZX decks due to the excellent bass response of these heads ! Orange caps are quite easy to replace (except the ones on the vertical switch board), I suggest you to replace the gray bipolar electrolytics too. However heating the pinch roller arms with soldering iron is not a good idea since the nylon bushing can melt with heat.
@sayparler10 жыл бұрын
It's not a good idea indeed, but luckily I didn't melt anything and it's easier to put it back in to the original position. The orange caps were replaced now, just have to edit the video! The sound is clearer with the new caps, amazing!

Hi Juliano, I have a Nakamichi BX300e cassette deck which worked perfectly when I had it connected to my set up but hasn't been used for about 4 years (stored in a garage) and is need of a service like you just demonstrated in your video, my deck plays for a few seconds then stops the forward function works sometimes/slowly the rewind function doesn't respond and if it does its after a few good attempts again slow. I've never attempted to repair a Nakamichi cassette deck before and on opening mines was a drawn back to the cluster surrounding the playing mechanism. do you have any advice for me or have you ever come across a BX330e and repaired it? if so is there a video I can take some tips from that you or anyone reading this knows of? by the way that's some skills you have I was/am well impressed.
@BABYGODZILLA20094 жыл бұрын
Hi Juliano. Nice video as always. Anyhow, recently I sorta hit the jackpot when I came across a Sony TC-K909ES cassette deck for sale from a local guy. I see this particular unit still goes for over $800 bucks on ebay and I got it for $100 bucks. Did not get the remote with it but hey, not the end of the world. However, I have a problem, this is what i had since i bought it, during recording it records like a dream when you play it on another deck. However, whenever i play it from the K909, the same tape or any other pre-recorded tapes, the treble is less. I don't think its the azimuth since i can clearly hear the high frequencies as the azimuth is spot on, but its like if you had turned the treble all the way down, it sounds like that. Heads look amazing, i have a doubt it is circuit related. Any thoughts on this? I thought of changing the all the electrolyte caps on the unit. I see some caps are branded Elna. Can you please guide me on the right path what could be the issue? Your thoughts on this is highly appreciated.

Hi, great job. I have got the same 660zx. I am the first owner and have not used it for some 25 years. It was stored. Now I tried and the transport mechanism is stuck. Fulishly I tried to spray lublicate it with WD-40. Clearly that was wrong. now all the belts slip. I will attempt to clean them they way you did. Just wonder where I can get the new right size belts. How did you know the diameter and sort of bets to buy ? And thank you again for this detailed video.

I'd say e-bay is one good source for these belts and replacement parts, but they may be expensive! The sizing is just an approximation, I do not know the factory specs for them...

+hrxy1 The Nakamichis sounds amazing, period. Then, they also have very special features, and you usually can control many things such as the head azimuth. It's definitely the Sony 555ESJ! Although the Nakamichi is tremendously good, it lacks the clarity of the Sony. Obviously a more high end Nakamichi would beat the 555ESJ, but that's something I can't afford for now...

Compare the infamous Nakamich orange capacitors...one channel using them and the other channel not using them.... ask someone to do the job...you NOT KNOWING what channel had "infamous" capacitor replaced...then try to discover.....you will notice something very interesting..it is just an illusion..... ATTENTION...you cannot know what channel was replaced or you will vote against the "infamous" because your beliefs do that with our decisions
