Hey Rachel! I'm from Germany and stopped sewing since my kids (6 years now). Now, after watching all of your videos, I bought a pdf pattern and will start again! So thanks for the motivation and your beautiful videos! I'm really looking forward to see more of your sewing journey! 😊❤ Anna

Loved this video! So cool to hear how creativity has been a passion throughout your family. Love hearing how people pass on their crafts and passions throughout the generations. I learned a lot from my grandmother as well ❤

Thanks so much! It's something I'm trying to remember now that I have a daughter of my own. Some of my fondest memories growing up were sitting down to do crafty things with my grandma and my mom, and I'm so grateful they took the time to share their creative time with me!

I loved getting to know more about you with this video. It makes so much sense that you have a Fine Arts background; everything you make is so aesthetically appealing. Did you see, Casey from Pattern Scout just put out a video mentioning your Sew 2 Spring Blouses video? I hope it sends even more people this way to enjoy your gorgeous content!

For the person asking about grainlines if you are talking about a plain weave cotton (that is not a knit) you usually want to cut your pattern pieces parallel to the selvedge! The selvedge is the sealed off bit at the end of the fabric. Before cutting people often fold the fabric in half and those sealed off pieces touch. You should avoid cutting parallel to the crosswise grain because it will stretch differently and won't hang right. The crosswise grain has more stretch than the straight grain because it usually goes around the body. It's easier to understand if you do a google image search "cutting grainline' the pictures will make a lot more sense! You can also cut things on the bias (on the diagonal) It hugs the body but it is harder to work with and sew that way.

This was really interesting. Gutermann make a thread called Maraflex which allows you to sew stretch fabric using a straight stitch. It really is brilliant.

It was so nice to get to know you more! I wanted to pop on answer your question about indie patterns. Helens closet, Friday pattern co. Are indie brands. I’d say some other big ones are paper theory, paradise patterns, Elbe textiles, true bias… so many more I can’t think of. When I think of indie pattern co. I think more of a “brand” and especially that has put effort into being size inclusive. I originally was also looking at Etsy patterns but many of those are super exclusive on their sizing which I don’t like to support. So I use a lot of indie patterns!

Hi Rachel. I’m from Australia. Your channel is lovely. I’ve been sewing for a long time. My favourite pattern companies are Pattern Emporium, Style Arc, Tilly and the Buttons and Rosary Apparel. They all sell pdf. Looking forward to watching more of your enjoyment for sewing.

Hi! Your video popped up as a recommended channel, and I've definitely watched a couple already. I've been sewing for 8 years and strictly use pdf patterns! I really love Sinclair Patterns for our whole family. She drafts in different heights! Also, Pattern Niche, Styla Patterns, Little Lizard King, and lowland kids are some good pdf pattern companies.

I’m so enjoying your channel! My grandma taught me to sew 😁 and now I’m just getting back into it and starting to sew my wardrobe! I asked the question about your kibbe and I totally get what you’re saying! Last year I dove deep all year into seasonal color analysis (I think I’m a soft summer or soft autumn), kibbe and also watched a lot of Ellie jean! All together they helped me revive my style (or maybe just have style for the first time 😂) Kibbe is a complex system and I agree that I feel the more I “studied” it the more I really just learned things that didn’t suit my body or did. I learned how to look more Objectively at my features and embrace them or Choose more flattering clothing for me. Looking forward to following your journey!

Hi Rachel! My favorite Indy pattern companies are Helen’s Closet, and True Bias. I find the pattern quality and instructions are a lot better quality than Etsy brands. Etsy patterns have been hit and miss for me.

My measuring tape looks the same as yours, with one end melted! I wonder how many other people have this. I've learned to drape and also draft patterns at college. But I don't draw or sew that much. I'm getting into it a little lately. I am mostly interested in upcycling garments. About sewing channels: I think you might like the channel Rosery Apparel if you don't already follow her. I really like your channel.

Haha so funny! It must be more common than I thought! 😂 That’s amazing you know how to draft patterns! I’m sure that helps a lot with upcycling. Thanks for the recommendation!

I do! I’ve never had a problem with them in my machine, and I guess I just assumed they were pretty standard needles! I guess I’ll have to look into it now. Haha

I personally think you’re a bight spring. In the video of you sewing when Patrick is out of town you’re wearing a spring-like red without makeup on and I immediately noticed how it makes your natural features pop so much. That’s when I noticed your eyes are actually blue instead of brown
