My first ride Ariel Square Four

The bike was not started for awhile so the clutch were sticking hence the gear sound. Other than that it was a great start of my first ride around the block. Excuse me as this is the first time I ride it since I got it. Haven't ride a bike for ages.

My ultimate motorcycle, my uncle Reg had one when I was a child, I've only seen them in museums, or garages, at 60 years of age, still riding, but not a square four, I can watch others, and be pleased for them

Thanks for sharing, being cautious is fine on first ride, you were gentle by not grinding it in first gear which shows you care about the bike. As people say we are only caretaker’s of these fine machines. I give you thumbs UP.

I noticed you had a problem selecting gear! To stop this happening, use the kick start, 3 times with the clutch depressed, before starting. Providing the clutch is set up correctly, you will never have this problem again. Beautiful bike, the best square 4 I've seen!

Yes, best to strip the clutch down, clean every plate. Check that all plates are flat, on a piece of thick glass, & put a thin smear of 3 in one oil on them. Once you have the pressure plate fitted, pull the clutch lever in enough to make it slip as you turn the motor over. Slide a feeler gauge behind it, so the gap is equal. If not adjust the spring until it is even. Now you will have a perfect clutch. Take care, & have fun.

You make the first upshift using the back of your heel mate...the Achilles tendon. Easier to slot into first that way !

I truly love the bike, it's looks and the sound. But yes!... Handlebars are ridiculous!.. and the rider does not seem comfortable either.
