I love watching people react to this video, nobody ever expects Siobhan 🤣 She was actually very drunk during the filming of the video. Luckily she made it down the stairs. She had been in the studio waiting to film all day and drank more than a whole bottle of vodka. I remember watching an interview where she said she couldn't remember filming it at all 🤣

Yeah didn't like the second part you can clearly make out she's drunk and her erratic movements and twitching destroyed the mood of the song.

@@mediavideos2176 I love it. She's playing a weird, disturbing character and for whatever reason the fact that she's obviously hammered kinda works for the character, for me at least. Makes that sudden switch up all the more impactful

I KNOW!!!!!!!! LOL I was still in single digits when this song blew up and I became obsessed with the band. Birth of my Goth life. LOL Then I realized Siobhan (death) was in Banarama and their hits during the 80s. Empress, I have been very sick from COVID like most of the world. Only thing I was really allowed to do was listen to my music and I stumbled onto your page. I've been working very hard for the last few years to change how I can be rocked, primary new is....situation sucks, can't change it. Find a moment that makes you happy, or laugh. You and your page are definitely a very good find. Thank You. I do recommend going down the Shakespeare Sister rabbit hole. Their catalog is amazing.

@toddrobertson85054 жыл бұрын
Shakespeare's Sister was a relatively short lived collaboration between Siobhan Fahey of Bananramma and Marcella Detroit. The contrast and interplay between Marcella's dulcet, operatic tones and Siobhan's darker, rougher voice dug it's way into my soul in High School and never left. Almost anything from Hormonally Yours is pure gold. The breakup was fairly rough and they didn't talk for years. They reunited in 2019 for a tour and released a new single, All the Queen's Horses that seemed to be about their relationship as a singing duo.
@darrenbuckley20824 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that, i had no idea, just listened to it for the first time, loved it.
@Mourn100 Жыл бұрын
Not totally correct, Shakespears Sister is actually a project by Siobhan Fahey and started before Marcella was a part. It continued after Marcella left and has been on and off over the years with Siobhan and Marcella reuniting in 2019.

This video premiered on VH1, on the morning of my father's funeral. He'd been on Life support and we all begged him to fight and come back. But, he was brain dead after suffering multiple strokes so, we his kids, decided to remove the life support and set his spirit free, instead of keeping it trapped in his body. So when this video premiered, my niece and I were glued to the T.V., sharing dad's favorite recliner, and just letting the tears flow. We connected so deeply with the song and video that we each bought their CD later. And just when we were getting ourselves under control, the video for Silent Lucidity by rock/metal band Queensryche, also premiered. More tears and hitches in our breathing later, we attended my dad's funeral. We'd catch each other's eyes and if either of us was crying a little hard, we'd nod then hug. I still absolutely love both songs but, Stay with Siobhan approaching all smiles and creepy, is my favorite video.

Your reaction when 'death' came on the scene was on point. Her part in the video and song really elevated this. When the group split..both singers would sing the song as a solo. While both were pleasant versions, it proved they were stronger together than apart.

Siobhan Fahey (Irish) who comes in as a "she devil" is part of the original lineup with Bananarama,if you ever heard of them? They got the HUGE 80s hits Venus and Cruel Summer. Marcella Detroit by the "hospital bed" is American,both plays the guitar and are songwriters. Marcella was also the co-writer of the Eric Clapton song Lay Down Sally. I absolutely love this song! It blew me away when it first came out! I love how you have hit the nail right on the head with the battle between love and death. I am a firm believer in the idea that this song has to do with suicide. Specifically with the lines" If this world is wearing thin / And you're thinking of escape" and "But if you try to go out alone / Don't think I'll understand". It shows the impact of the death of a loved one on their partner.

This one always gets me, in 2011 at my birthday party I suffered an "Out of hospital VF arrest" and had 7 minutes with my wife and a friend doing CPR before the ambulance arriving, those 7 minutes of CPR are the only reason I am now here typing this instead either being 6 foot under or a very brain damaged individual, now the reason for the back story is that the only thing I remember clearly from all this is hearing my wife telling me (and I do mean telling) "You are NOT leaving me!" I still put that down to helping me fight for life.

When I pay attention to the words I feel is a dark song about addiction. The 1st lady is the appealing side of addiction while the 2nd is the horrible side, consequences and death. The 2nd verse: in the silence of your room, in the darkness of your dreams, you must only think of me, there can be no in between. When your pride in on the floor, I'll make you beg for more!... Anyone that have been or known someone go through addition understand what that verse says. The song and video although very dark, is a masterpiece.

Death wins. Always. As things should be. You can win specific battles, but she keeps coming back. She is the most faithful entity in the universe. Never gives up on you. Gives you the greatest gift there is. Final release from suffering. The possessive, inconsiderate human lover that wants you to stay is the evil one, if you ask me.
