Hi Scott, I have been waiting for this story since you did the one on your 1st day in class😉 I have to laugh when you said about the bunting in Narbeth and the height of your trailer 😂 I saw the Snowman going into the fairgrounds at the end of the 1st Smokey and the Bandit film 😂😂 I'm starting with a new company on tippers on Monday, much closer to home and they go to truck shows as a company. Have a good week out and about, hope things are progressing well for your partner health wise too.

first shift in a 11+ car carrier on my own London city centre I went the wrong way and had to do a u turn smashed the tail light on tractor unit due to not being able to jack knife

I was a night driver, delivering to Volvo dealers all around the midlands, (I had keys to get into all of them!) However I would pick up the truck part loaded and drive to Northampton for the rest of my load. This was a posh office with a small warehouse attached, with only ONE door. So me and my colleagues had to hustle for somewhere to park to load up. We also had to await the arrival of the trunker coming up from Kent. so it was always tight in the yard (actually the car park for the offices). Invariably I was the last to arrive having visited another yard on the way. So this one night, the only place I could find was slap against the beautiful marble steps outside the main entrance to the offices. I had a load on the tail lift, when suddenly instead of going up, it came down with a hiss and a sudden bump. It sprayed hydraulic fluid all up the steps, spreading nicely on the marble. I got my boss out of bed to tell him what had happened. I called the standby driver (I was also running the traffic office at night from my cab) told him to bring the biggest van on the fleet and help me. The rest of that night I ran a shuttle with the van to the truck and took several loads out to the customers, looking in awe at the truck stuck there right in front of the entrance still with oil dripping out of it. it was a real mess, because with the tail lift on the floor, the truck couldn't be moved. The next night I had an uncomfortable interview with the warehouse supervisor. "Well what would you have done?" I asked the stern faced man. He grinned and said: "the same as you did. The main thing is the dealers got their parts." The stain was there for weeks, a reminder of that night. There you go, not exactly exciting, but I had only been in the job a few weeks and had to decide on a plan of action on the spot.

Hi Scott. Nice to see you again. That road that you're parked on for unloading, and you said it looks quiet. More like the M6 of tractors🤣 I'm not a lorry driver, I was a secretary before taking retirement. The nearest towing job I did was going solo towing the caravan after my lovely hubby passed away five years ago, then waiting until I could go out after covid lockdown. Anyway, I bought a new car, a Ford Focus, with only 9 miles on the clock, bought in 2021. A couple of months ago, I decided to go out because I'd had enough of Mr Landscape Gardner next door decided to get his drill out, again, and I couldn't take it, so took a trip to Oswestry, to be exact, The Great British Ironworks (I live just outside of Manchester). Driving along, and just coming round the bend, and the traffic had come to a quick stop, so, thankfully, I always leave a large distance between myself and the vehicle in front, so I stopped with no problem. No so much the chap behind me. He didn't stop, and went right in the back of me. We swapped details and away I went, stopping on the way to report the accident to my insurance company. I took it to a garage about a 10 minute walk from where I live. A couple of hours later, they rang to say, sorry its a right off. After 50 years of driving, that was my very first crash, and not even my fault😵‍💫. Anyway, that's my little story🤣

Is there a way to look up your "daily time" on the didgi box? Yesterday they closed the m25 and I got in kinds of bother, I ended up with a driving time of about 9h and 50 mins, I know this because I got a "you've got 15 mins left" warning about 5 minutes before I pulled into the yard, I thought I might have been close because I couldn't remember exactly how much I'd driven before the first break but I couldn't work out how to see it or even if it's displayed if you press the down button, my job means I'm usually way way within the law, this was a freak event on a day with a freaky amount of drops so I never bother to really think about it, this is only the second time in a decade I've gone into the 10th hour

Yeah you can. different depending what model Tacho it is. Most trucks you can see it on the dash these days too
