Today I take you on my first shopping trip in Thailand to the Lotus Supermarket. I will share the cost of living as I shop for basic necessesities for my new condo. The cost of living in Bangkok can be quite reasonable if you don't go overbaord. Lotus's has pretty much everything you need for living in Thailand. So join me as I go shopping in Thailand for the first time.

I've been watching you since boarding from America to hand out chocolates. To the airline staff..welcome..the goods in Thailand are very cheap.. The price may differ slightly, of course, plus the quality is good because ASEAN. use all Thai products no need to worry. Please stay in Thailand for a long time from Chiang Mai.

The cheapest shopping mall in Thailand is makro. It is a large wholesale mall. And if you want more comfort Every shopping mall will have an app for ordering products to be delivered to your home. Or will it be Grab, lineman. You just select the products you want and wait at home. Prices and promotions are the same as if you went out and bought them yourself. The fare is cheaper than the bts,taxi fare you take to the mall. And in Thailand, there will be a lot shop that sells everything for 20 baht. If you go to the shop everything 20, you can buy any household items for only 20 baht. such as hand towels, towels, hand tools, whole packs of toilet paper, paper towels At the shop, everything is 20 baht. We have them all. And a trick to get on the BTS so that you don't land on the wrong side Let you look at the destination you are going to what color line is. and then let you see the last station of that color line The signpost will be the name of the last station of that color line. For example, you are at Asoke station and you will go to Phra Khanong. You have to go to the BTS side that says Kheha(เคหะ) because the last station on that line is Kheha(เคหะ) station.😁😁🙏🙏

It’s funny I was reading a comment from somebody else about Makro when I was standing right in front of that store. I went inside to take a look. I definitely don’t need to buy in bulk like that. Even in the US Costco was just good for water and toilet paper for me

I am deeply invested in Thai culture but yet after many years of taking long trips there, I still haven't figured out how to live there. I have done this type of shopping trip to by things for the airbnb/condo so many times in Thailand.... it can get ridiculous when you're there long term but still transient.

Looks like you were in the area that I have a condo at On Nut. There is also a free bus that goes to IKEA if you ever need, get off the BTS at Udom Suk, take exit 5 and the bus comes pretty often.

So here’s a funny story. I went to make myself a drink with ice cubes at my condo the other day. That’s when I realized that I had used tap water so I stopped myself short. That’s also when I realize that the night before I had used the same tap water ice cubes. I managed to live. Lol… but yes, I’m using bottled water to make ice now.

Serg, I know you said you don’t cook, but don’t you get sick eating out all the time? I mean, nothing beats a home cooked meal - from a health perspective? Just worrying about your health mate.

I should explain a little bit. In the US I had several friends who owned meal prep businesses and restaurants. I did social media marketing for them in exchange for healthy food. I’ve also been fortunate enough that most of the women I’ve dated were good cooks. When I go out to eat, I’m not buying junk food. I also go to supermarkets and buy fish and chicken and make salads. I will absolutely start doing that more here. Right now I’ve only been here one month. I’m still trying to get my long-term residence figured out, as well as a few other things. Once I’m more settled, I will absolutely start making some of my meals at home. I really appreciate your concern!

There are many supermarkets that offer delivery ( Lotus, BigC, Makro) or you can order by grab market. Lately, I'm always ordering online since carrying staff is a pain.

I have recently been thinking about moving to Thailand - although I am as of yet undecided. I will have to do some more research first. But either way, I will finally be going back for at least a month next week so we’ll see how I feel about being back in the Asian heat and humidity after being in Europe for the last two years, haha. Anyway, I don’t know if it actually works because I’ve never tried it in Thailand, but I have in other countries like Japan pre-covid. If you download Google Translate to your phone, you can use the camera to translate text for you - I’m sure it will make shopping much easier. Like I said; I don’t know if it actually works for Thai, but I would be surprised if it didn’t. Just out of curiosity and of course you don’t have to answer because it’s none of my business, but what kind of visa do you have? I know I have heard of people living in Thailand on a tourist visa and just going in and out of the country to renew it, but I guess I’m just wondering if that actually works long term or not. I had a friend who used to do that in Taiwan a couple of years back and he never had a problem. Meanwhile immigration in Japan would get annoyed with me every time I showed up (I used to go every year pre-covid). I actually had an immigration officer pull me aside once and tell me “Your visa temporary, but YOU! YOU NOT TEMPORARY!!”, haha. He let me go on my way without issue afterwards, but still. It definitely made me a little bit more careful when dealing with immigration.

Yes google translate works perfectly here with Thai. Tourist visa will require you to leave the country after 90 days as that’s the max you can do. They are many different versus you could use, take a look at their website and see what best suits you.

You at On Nut Lotus, next time try Big C from BTS turn right from BTS station and you will be seeing the traffic lights turning right and you will see Big C supermarkets and across the road from Big C there is On Nut local markets.

Yeah, I definitely could’ve gone to a discount store. I just don’t know where they are and that’s why I went to the supermarket. Some of the things were cheaper, some of them were not. I’m the same way, I love going to stores and looking at base of goods in other countries.

Hi Serge that’s really okay to go by Train in Bangkok. I enjoyed as well the Subway in London because it’s really well organised there. The Supermarkets remembers in Italy Milano or also outside the big towns which a big as the Supermarkets in Thailand. In my Hometown in Germany are the Supermarkets really small. I love the kindly talkactive Thailand People. The beer, wine etc isn’t well in Thailand but the most important is the very good Food, Fruits, Coffee, Cake, ICE Cream etc. With the Helmet you look really great. 👍 Thanks a lot for the nice Shopping Tour. There are hundreds and hundreds of available rentals. My advice to you is to take a look at Airbnb. Rent some thing for a month and then go around and look for something long-term. Hi Serg! Enjoying your video as always 👍I have questions and hope you can help. Since you are from the US. For electronics like phone, laptop, curl iron, blower dryer etc. do I need to get a volt plug converter or can I just use the one in Thailand are they compatible with the US? Also for VPN, what VPN company do you use or would recommend? I work from home now and planning to be in Thailand in November for about couple of months and want to make sure I use the right VPN for the US web. Thank you so much in advance.

Almost every electronics device and appliance is now both 120 V and 220 V. You will not need any adapters here in Thailand. I plugged everything straight into the sockets with no issues. As for a VPN, I use Nord VPN. There is a link to it in the description of my video. If you use my link you’ll get a little better deal, and they will pay me a small commission so I would appreciate that if you decide to use them.

Hello Kelly , not all electronics are compatible with Thai 220V. for instance my Brother sewing machine is not compatible I have to by a converter for it. So to be safe you should look at the label on your devices. If it's not , you need a converter.

Don’t forget the average salary here is approximately $800 a month. So even at five dollars a pound, this is quite expensive. The cost of labor is very low here compared to the US, that’s one of the reasons the products are so much cheaper.

You need to be aware eating out Thai food has a lot of MSG's and sugar which is why it taste good. Best to cook home meals 80% of the time even if you don't like your cooking eventually you get better, at least you know what you're putting in your body.
