Curious - when you are splitting smaller pieced why do you put them at the front of the blade instead of putting them against the back fence? I would think it would be safer to split in that position. Stay safe.

Thanks for the question Robert!! Placing small splits at the rear of the blade against the fence is actually more dangerous (as far as I am concerned) for two reasons: First, you have to look down both sides of the wedge to center up the piece before splitting. Second, if the small split was to kick out from the blade with your hands near the fence, there are many more crush potentials. As long as the small splits are standing square on the table at the front edge of the blade, I feel most confident with them in that position. Hope this makes sense….
