This is great, Josh, thank you for sharing this. Please don't put your fingers or hands on the playing surface of vinyl, you hold it by the edges in the palms of your hands, otherwise the oils from your skin get into the grooves and trap dust this is commonly known as 'groove sludge' and will effect the sound quality of the sound and it's difficult to remove without effecting the record.

You have really entered both of my worlds: Star Trek and Film Scores. What you have there is the complete score to the movie, restored from the 2 inch 16 track backup recording made in 1979, the best available recording of the original scoring sessions. I have the CD version of the release from La-La Land Records, along with their releases of Star Trek II and III, and Intrada's releases of Star Treks IV thru VI. I also have the rest of the scores in complete form from other speciality labels, Star Trek VI and Generations were signed by the composers. I hope you enjoy that treasure you have on your turntable.

A decent amp and speakers will do most of the work, and it'll still sound more dynamic than mp3s etc. Enjoy!

Yeah that's how it starts you buy one vinyl record then you got to buy a record player so you can listen to it and pretty soon you've got like 200 records and you're drowning in cleaning fluid. Beware.

Yup, everyone with no actual experience always thinks it's not true, but vinyl records through a decent amp and speakers will always sound more dynamic. Just a fact that a lot of folk need to accept. I love useful new tech but the idea that any use of any newer technology is always better and some sort of great progress is nonsense, a line spun by companies trying to endlessly profiteer.

the Enterprise theme from TMP as directed by Goldsmith was _beautiful_ but for a proper _majestic_ rendition, you gonna have to wait until Nemesis. the strings on those 30 seconds of theme are something else.

That is an awesome looking gatefold cover for a great soundtrack. I have an original single LP of star trek the motion picture. However stamped on my album cover is "Not For Resale" which means my record was used in-store as a demo to show off stereo sound systems back in the day. I did manage to grab the star trek 2 double vinyl from London because I am a vinyl guy.

Goldsmith's board, sweeping epic of a score for TMP is easily his greatest work, truly his magnum opus. I would also argue that it is perhaps one of the best film scores of all time, up there with the likes of "Star Wars: A New Hope", "Gone with the Wind" and "Lawrance of Arabia". The Directors Cut pressing you have looks to be the Complete Score from the theatrical release and should be the same one I have on 3-CD set (including all the components and raw takes) that was remastered from the original 26-track master tapes from Goldsmith's estate. On a good turntable and Amp (tube if you can find one) and speakers/headphones...its sound quality is breathtaking.

Lionel Newman conducted, because Goldsmith needed to sit in the engineer's booth to supervise the sound mix. Newman also conducted Goldsmith's 'Alien' and 'The Omen' for similar reasons. James Horner was present for at least some of the recording of TMP's music. Goldsmith's third Omen score is a genuine rival to his 'ST-TMP' music. Just make sure to listen to the Deluxe release of 'The Final Conflict', because the original CD release had the choir too low in the sound mix.

Nice vinyl! I may pick one up, I have it on CD, but the holographic cover looks dope. I bought a Picard - Season 3 vinyl about a year and half ago and it is really nice too, the music is killer, the final ride of the TNG crew, can’t wait until you guys finally get there. Now all you need is an amp and some floor standing speakers to get the real sonic experience!

Ohhh music. I grew up with Star Trek on records, where theyd have a comic and with it that Star Trek comic was acted out on the record (like radioplays, which also were still around, though sparse). Guess it'd sort've be like audiobooks nowadays but with multiple voice actors. Cool looking record. Very 60s color pattern.

I, too, had one of these. Circa 1975. A 33rpm LP that had three or four stories on it. The only one I recall involved the crew slowly turning into felines. There was a feline crew member aboard who managed to fix everything. I remember her saying in a purring voice, "Captain! Mrrrrrrrrrrrr Spock..."

Just some thoughts - Really great to see you watching all start trek. Wow! DS9 to come. Voyager. Amazing. You have so much to look forward to. Surely you know how fans hate Discovery. STD is terrible. And fans hate season 1 and 2 of Picard but love season 3. Dilemma. Do you jump straight to season 3? Star Trek Prodigy is supposed to be for kids but is the best new trek there is. And you have to see voyager before watching that to understand story. I never watched lower decks. It's a comedy show. And I have never seen Strange New Worlds given how bad STD was! Great videos!

I played the heck out of the Starwars vinyl soundtrack album but did not buy the Star trek album. Guess i had such a resentment against the movie. Soon STII came out and that was cool. In 1987 inwas watching the premiere of TNG in the student union at college and my friend BJ and I gave a knowing look to each other when we heard the familiar theme.

Get a decent record player, the cheap one you have WILL damage your records. And don't put your fingers on the grooves like that. Hold the record between your hands. Check out Fluance, Audio Technica, for record players and get a separate amplifier, a phono preamp and bookshelf speakers. That will elevate the sound of your records and your listening experience
