I make stromboli all the time. It is a lot less messy if you use just meat and cheese inside and serve it with the sauce on the side for dipping. Also, buffalo chicken stromboli is amazing. Grilled chicken, buffalo sauce, mozzarella cheese, and a bleu cheese dressing on the side for dipping. Sprinkle some extra bleu chees in their as well. Can also serve with sliced celery on the side.... perfection

Generally there isn't sauce in the stromboli. You put in meats and cheese, usually ricotta and mozzarella, then roll and bake. Sauce is reserved for dipping.

Here in New Jersey in the U.S. it's a Calzone that has Ricotta and a Stromboli only contains mozzarella.

That's what I've generally found to be true. Also, stromboli are rolled like burritos, calzones are folded over like tacos.

Dude.... Made a version with crushed olives, fresh basil, salami, fresh garlic, prosciutto, mushroom and red onion. Tell ya what. It was bloody brilliant. Was a huge hit at my place. Cheers heaps brother.

Exact way we make pizza rolls here, roll it tighter them like a swiss roll, Just slice them up in portions before put them in oven.

If clean warm water is 'Luke warm', does that mean that dirty warm water is 'Vader warm'? I'll get me cloak. A 'Strongbowli?' Sounds like a pork, apple, and cider version to me. I'd eat it. With you 100%, Barry. The Heinz Baked Bean Pizza was ridiculously good. Why they stopped making it, I don't know. It needs to come back.

My high school made a ham and swiss stromboli with a dijon mustard sauce inside instead of the pizza sauce and instead of the pizza dough the crust/bread was crescent roll dough. It was fantastic.

You can put up the end of the sides first and roll it then. It also keeps the filling inside during rolling.

Man, I gotta make me a juicy stromboli this weekend. Quick tip from a guy that's been messing around with pizza for a while; kneading the dough right before baking is something I normally don't recommend, especially not with flour. It tends to tighten it up and it can bake into more of a cracker than a light and crispy pizza. I also take the dough straight out of the fridge and make my pizza as quickly as possible to keep it cool, right until it goes in the oven. This seems to help with browning and getting good lift on the edges. Having a cooler dough usually also makes it easier to work with since it's less floppy. These things apply to regular pizza, and a stromboli may not even see any benefit from my techniques, but I thought I'd mention it anyway because it's given me good results and may aid you in future pizza- and possibly stromboli making. Yours looked nice and tender here though and only you can say wether it could be improved upon or not.

I’ve never seen a Stromboli made like this before. I’ve always seen it with the ingredients made on one side and then you just fold the dough over kind of like a pocket. Does look quite good.

must agree with stromboli,... absolutely amazing, so much more tastier than pizza. I do the same here,.. layers are pizza sauce, ham, mozzeralla, pepperoni, cheddar,.... roll up. score the top with a few slices, dollop garlic butter on top and a light sprinkle of parmesan. Also I egg wash where it seals. Will be trying a garlic chicken version this weekend - PS - Beans, try Bramwell beans, far better than Heinz, and not as expensive. Some of the cheaper beans are too sweet, but these aren't

The Stromboli I grew up eating has a mustard, Mayo, and herb mix brushed onto the dough with ham, salami, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and Colby Jack cheese

when I make something like this, I always use butter instead of egg wash and I use dried garlic powder with dried parsley on top.

I may be a little late But i wanna tell this story, So me and my wife were having a barathon about a month ago, we got to the pizzadilla episode and thought "That filling would go really well as a stromboli" So because my wife cant cook, I made the stromboli with the filling from the pizzadilla episode and no word of a lie. IT WAS THE MOST STONKING THING ON THE PLANET. (Note that I am half italian and have been cooking all my life, my blood could literally be marinara sauce. This recipe was pretty tricky since the ingredients are quite bulky and made it difficult to role. But its definitely worth it)

Great video! It's one of my go-to easy to make recipes! It always seems impress family/friends, with out it taking to much time, effort, or money! Plus there are just so many ways to customize the dish for anyone's particular taste! The options are pretty much endless! The only changes to your recipe, and this is 100% just personal preference...But I would've foregone with pepperoni completely and instead go with,1) Capicola, 2)A cut-up Italian sausage (one big sausage should do or two average one's will certifiably suffice!), than for veg part I'd also throw in some Sliced Green & Red peppers and a bit of sliced onions. Usually I pre-cook the sausage pieces just a bit so I know there thoroughly cooked, while doing that I also fry the green/red peppers with the onion until the reduce and get a bit char. When I finish with that, I just do what you lay out the sauce, put ingredients in, a roll it up! OH, I'd also use 40 (Mozz)/40(Provolone)/20 combo(Parm) ratio for the cheese. I also, generously sprinkle on sesame seeds and a very light amount of herbs more so for their fragrance than to flavor the bread, right before it goes into the oven! I've been dying to try to make one with either Ricata or Marscopone cheese or blend of both, Since I think those soft cheeses would work great in a Stromboli Another cool idea I had was to try a dessert variant Stromboli, maybe with a cheesecake like filling and some fresh fruits (Mango, Banana,ect) and some chocolate to finish it off and make it even more luxurious and decadent ! I wouldlove to see you do a video on this again, especially if switch things up and go the dessert route.

Yes, the difference is most stromboli have ricotta, but the biggest difference is that there is no sauce inside. It is reserved for dipping

My lazy pizza sauce is tomato paste, splash of warm water to loosen it, italian herbs, garlic, salt, pinch of paprika (yes, I love paprika!) and then slopped onto a bread product of some kind and topped with cheese, usually shredded mozz, but whatever's to hand works... :P

The funny thing about strombolis is that they are apparently like sandwiches, burritos, enchiladas, etc. in that they can be made with whatever ingredients someone wants. There is an Italian restaurant near me that only makes strombolis with the supreme pizza style fillings (bell peppers, pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions, etc.). But, there used to be another one where I went to university that would only make them with capricola, salami and spicy ham. But, at the school where I teach, they make them with pepperoni, ground beef and tomato chunks.

As an Italian chef I say nice job. If its folded rather than rolled it will be firmer inside. Also on top with the mozzarella, add some parmesan cheese too. Last bit from me is if you would've cooked that sauce for even 5 minutes you could use half the amount of paste and herbs and gotten a much deeper taste, but for something quick and easy, you nailed it all!

Whenever my dad made Stromboli he started with a rectangular peice of dough filled it and cut the sides into strips to fold over the filling to look like a plait rather than putting cuts on the top i feel like it looks better

Our local pizza joint will make them with anything you can get on a pizza, so onions, peppers, anchovies, whatever. Though I just like them traditional style.

I can see this recipe easly changed using dessert pizza stuff.... Cheesecake filling as the base sauce and load it with your favorite fruit/ pie filling. I'm in midwest America and dessert pizza is very popular (also breakfast pizza, but that's another thing)

Potentially the reason you like Heinz baked beans on Pizza is because the actual beans that are Heinz beans are Haricot beans, which are very similar to Cannellini beans (which are an authentic Italian bean) and the tomato sauce probably just evens out into the pizza sauce.

Every Stromboli I've ever ordered here in the US has just been a huge calzone but without the ricotta cheese. The cheese was the big difference over here at least. That rolling's something completely different I forget the term.

I love sweet pepper and onions in mine- Now, you need to try an authentic south Jersey panzerotti and a Philly Cheesesteak with rolls from Philly (I can send!) and NO green peppers -we DONT put those on a Philly cheesesteak typically! Whiz wit onions or whiz witout onions...I can send you the cheese whiz also!

I bet it would be even better if you also put a layer of parm and Moz on the parchment paper before laying the dough down, so when you roll it the cheese on the back goes between every layer of the roll

How do you get the pizza dough to cook in the middle, I used to make pizza wheels for my kids when they were babies and I could never get the middle of the spiral to cook?!!!

I had the same thought. I've tried this with cinnamon rolls and every time they come out burned on the bottom and raw in the middle

Cook longer at a lower temp maybe?

@@Firsona Now don't you think that was the first thing I tried? Either it cooks long enough to make the middle not raw, but the bottom burns; or it cooks short enough for the bottom to be good, but the middle is inedible; or it hits the Goldilock Zone and both happen. Regardless, I came here to complain, not get advice how to fix it :P

For Pizza Oven just think Furnace and get your oven as close to maximum as poss before you put anything in it. Fast and Blazing hot..... Insert your own innnuendo.
