My FIRST Tesla Model 3 (UK) RWD

I finally done it and purchased my first Tesla :) In this video I give an overview of the car and many reasons as to why this is the best purchase i’ve ever made.
If you're thinking of buying or owning a Tesla (or any electric car), then do it now while there are grants available!
UPDATE 01/03/22 - I state by accident in the video that the additional cost for the midnight silver metallic cost £1500. It was actually an additional £1100. I think the confusion came from the costs in the US being $1500.
The most expensive option being the red multi-coat at £2100.

@@davesalstake No, I think the content was perfect. You didn’t overload it with facts and figures. It was an option piece, a great introduction. You can probably do a specific one about battery and drain from century mode, battery prep pre charge etc. Charge time, how you charge since you don’t have a home charger. My model Y should should be picked up between March 15th -29th hmm, I hope it has 22 plates

Nice video David. I have same RWD M3 and it is the best and most fun car I’ve had. Two principal reasons I bought it: the technology and the supercharger network. The last time I used Supercharger at Newbridge a Tesla tech offered me a courtesy service while I was charging. Checked tyres and filled screen wash. Brilliant service.

Time to make a 3 years later update video ;) I bought one after watching your video a year ago. Love everything about it except the charging network which in Australia sucks and the fact that is a noisy car to drive. Mostly noises coming from inside the cabin from leather and plastic panels. Also my 12v battery failed after 1 year but it was replaced under warranty. But apart from the cabin noises I love everything about it

Thank you 🙂 it snows on average 38 days per year in Scotland. That’s just over 4 weeks worth and wouldn’t be 38 days in a row. For the largely increased cost of 4 wheel drive, I still maintain it would not be worth it for myself to spend the additional money.

Hi David, great video. You hit all the right notes for a new owner to ask and show. I do have a few questions for you. I too have a Range Rover Evoque. I do like the high seating position and ride. However I have been seriously looking at the Model 3. I have a family 2 kids and wife. So the practical side of the evoque has a strong pull. Going back to a saloon car, I know that the boot will be a talking point. Can you get two large suitcases in the back. You did say the opening was narrow. Last thing. Moving from the Range Rover, what is the seating height difference to you. Is it really noticeable or something you feel I can adjust to. Once again thanks for making a great first video.

Hi Glenford, thanks for watching my video and apologies I haven’t got back to you sooner! You can absolutely fit two large suitcases in the boot no problem at all. The opening is narrow but can fit most things to be honest and there hasn’t been anything I’ve not been able to store in the boot. I was really worried about going back to a saloon car which is low down but I honestly don’t really notice the difference, and I think that’s simply due to the comfort when driving the Tesla! I would say you can definitely adjust to it. The fact you have a family I would suggest booking in to see one and maybe get a test drive before pulling the trigger on the purchase. In my opinion thought it’s definitely worth it 😃

Thanks 😃 yeah collected in Glasgow. You need to get the VIN (vehicle identification number) of the car which you can get from logging into your Tesla account. If it’s not there customer services will be able to advise you if you phone. I found this out on the day when I collected.

Hey! Thanks for watching - I’ve had 9 cars and that’s something that’s always bothered me as well. But I can honestly say that the Tesla seats are very very comfortable. At the end of the day though the car is lower down so having something a bit higher up for ease of getting in will always be nicer but I can take that due to how comfortable the car is. The vegan leather is extremely supportive of thigh support. Also - you can select ‘easy entry’ on your profile so everytime you open the car you can set it to go right back etc and when you put it into drive it will then adjust to your driving position 🙂

Great vid. Looking at going electric. You're the only one to mention USB in glove box. Is it USB A? Also, is there a charging point on both sides of the car? I need it to be on the driver's side for home charging. Cheers.

Thank you - yes it is usb A and there are two usb C connections in the console storage. Im afraid there is only one charging port and that is on the passengers side. Can be a bit of a pain depending on how long public charging leads are. The one you get with the car though is pretty long though so I would be surprised if it didn’t reach your one at home. You can also buy longer ones so that shouldn’t be an issue for you.

Hi. Great video. Ive just ordered the long range in white with upgraded 19inch sports wheels. Estimated delivery was August 2022 but has been updated to May - June 2022👍🏻 I certainly will not be buying the full auto drive as basically it doesn’t work in the UK. Even to summon the car you have to be standing next to it !! Whats the point? Also did you have any problems when you picked the car up? eg scratches, panel alignment ?

Hey - thanks for watching 🙂 that’s great you’re getting it sooner than expected, the exact same happened to me. I had zero problems with mine when I collected. They seem to be going through much stricter quality control checks which is good. Only thing I am going to contact them about is my right driver window is squeaking when going up and down continuously. Very minor problem but should probably call them about it 😅

Thank you! I’ve not really had to use it much as there hasn’t been much snow…however, the very few times I’ve had to it’s been absolutely fine. It has specific modes which reduces the acceleration etc for snow/ice so you do not accidentally push pedal too hard. It is a rear wheel drive though so it will never match having an all wheel drive for extreme weather. I just don’t think we have weather bad enough in Scotland to justify paying the extra money!

Thank you 😃 I would highly recommend doing it. 18s are fine and the drive is so so smooth. My biggest worry was going from high up to low down but it is so comfy I genuinely don’t notice. Go for it!

@@davesalstake Didn't drive the 3 in the end but managed to drive the Y. My first time in an electric car and I loved it. The 3 was too low for the wife and she dismissed it immediately. The Y is very similar position to our X3 and the ride was ok on the 19's. I ordered one when we got home - Midnight Silver / Black / 19's

I’ve done a long trip already and was staying at a log cabin so actually just plug the car into the socket there (that way you I didn’t have to pay) It’s all down to personal use but for me it really wasn’t worth paying an extra £7k for all wheel drive and an extra 70 miles…do you do long trips often? I think that’s what people get bogged down with is thinking about long trips when they might not actually do them that often. You’ll need to keep me up to date with what you end up going for 🙂

​@@davesalstake I do those kind of trips (250-300 miles each way) once or twice a month. My family also lives roughly 420 miles away so that's a trip I'm also making several times a year. However, and you mentioned this as well, a car with a maxmum range of 300 miles that you can charge untill 100 percent or a car with a range of 385 miles that you can only charge to roughly 80 percent both end up having a very similar range.

Could definitely use as a family car - also I easily fit in. The car has a “easy entry” mode which means when you open the car you can set it so the seat goes all the way back or to whatever setting you prefer 🙂

You are absolutely right it was £1100 and not £1500 - this is a mistake and I have updated my description to reflect this so thank you for pointing that out. The addition costs in the US are $1000 and $1500 so I think that’s why I’ve stated that when recording. Can you refer to a time stamp when I am doing this? It might just be me moving the steering wheel slightly when I have autopilot on as this is required every 15 seconds roughly so the car knows the drivers attention is there for safety reasons.

Is the range 510km or 439km? Because when I bought it was mentioned in the website that the range is 510km for 18” aero wheels but mine is only 439! Did you face the same thing?

Hi, the range is always lower than advertised as when tested it is in optimised conditions on a track. Weather, road surface etc has impact. Mine was the exact same 🙂

Hey, yes the windows are double pane. Can’t hear a thing so the sound proofing seems to have improved dramatically compared to previous models from what I’ve read online. Thanks for the sub 😀

I was wonder about the sound system of the RWD model. It's still good because it's doesn"t have sub woofer and amplifier like the LR & P model.

I think the sound system is pretty amazing in the RWD model. The price difference of 7k to upgrade to the LR with the added miles and the sun woofer and amplifier wouldn’t be worth it in my opinion. If your only concern is the sound system, then I would still recommend going for the RWD 🤙🏽

Hi Grant, I actually don’t know the answer to this but for security purposes I think that would work. I highly recommend you make your phone your key though as saves having to worry about having your card on your and taking it out to open the car 😊

Hey - yes I think the build quality is amazing. There are a lot of TikTok’s/other short videos claiming poor build quality with seals pulling off etc. I don’t believe these for a second and I have had zero issues with mine. There’s a reason why people involved in car crashes while in a Tesla tend to walk away unscathed. They definitely prioritise health and safety which correlates to the build quality of the car. Hope this helps 🙂

@@davesalstake I would have done … but my home has a steep drive ! I need the “higher” approach and departure angles. The LR , tracks up and down the drive nicely where as the “P” would have undoubtedly scraped its chin ! The MY LY (with acceleration boost) is fast enough ! 0-60 in an easy 4.2s and of course almost 424 Kw 564HP ! The Performance model Y is 456Kw …. 606 HP and sadly has less range.

Hi - it’s hard to give you an exact figure as it’s all dependent on weather, how you drive etc but I would say I get between 230-280

That is correct! I only actually realised this after a taking a long trip at new year. My understanding is that it shouldn’t be used due to risk of water getting in etc - this has been removed from the car now but there is a cable provided with the car for wall socket charging 🙂

"very rarely snows in Scotland" 🤣🤣🤣 come on now. Looks like you're in or around EK too where the snow is particularly bad. My dad's model 3 was back at the Tesla garage for most of December & January and they gave him an AWD Model X - lucky they did or his RWD Model 3 would have been nothing more than an ornament.

@@davesalstake well having lived in EK for 30 years and Glasgow for 5, it's rare not to get snow in the winter. We had snow last week 🤣 he had the usual panel gap issues that are common amongst Model 3's and condensation in the tail lights. All sorted now though 👍
