Great tips! Not sure if it was mentioned, but for your windshield wipers - tapping the end of the left stalk, as you mentioned, brings up the speeds on the screen. Instead of tapping on your screen you can also increase the speed by pressing your left scroll wheel to the left or the right to increase or decrease the wiper speed. I found this to be easier than tapping on the screen.

@@stephenthompson1663 I keep my Model Y tires at 48 psi cold/52 psi hot per the sidewall max. pressure. My tires are wearing evenly and I just rotated them at 44k miles for the first time. I am hoping to get 70k miles on them bearing any unforeseen issues. My daily commute is 130 miles (650 miles/week) and I have 45.7k miles in 13 months of ownership. I live in Florida and I have experienced three blowouts (2 were Michelins) over the past 40 years due to the heat on the road with my tires inflated at the door jamb psi (not the tire psi). Since the tire psi label is usually higher, that is where I keep the tires and it has worked extremely well for me in Florida. I am hoping to get 300k miles on Tessie.

I'm only 2 mins in, but in winter climates not using brakes ruins them due to salty ice slush. I'd love if Tesla had (or is it implemented) and option to also mimic the regen braking with actual brake use nearing trip destination. In Norway swapping brakes every two years seems to be an actual thing due to pit rusting etc. and very limited use on EVs. Applying brakes at the end of every trip would have a beneficial effect. I also know this by first hand experience on my old corolla which I do not use daily, the brake discs just rusted like hell from just not being used and the car being out all year in all kinds of weather.

There's a mythbusters episode from years ago where they tested everything from 40ft to 2ft, but with a gas car. Should still apply to electric though, probably even more so. I think they found it increased up to about 20ft, and then decreased after that, but 20ft is way too close even with auto emergency braking. At that distance the truck driver cannot see you in their mirrors. 40ft still saw a noticable increase in fuel economy and is *reasonably* safe, though the driver still might be able to see you. Even without drafting, you'll still see a significant increase in efficiency due to driving slower.

On secret auto park (4:20), when the car goes into a tight spot, how do you get it to back out, in order to enter the car again 😂? Or do you have to get FSD?
@JPEight
@JPEight Жыл бұрын
That's a great point. When I manually park in tight spaces I make sure to leave a little more room on the drivers side, but I don't think autopark will do that. If you park the opposite way to the one next to you, (i.e frontwards vs backwards) you can get your passenger door very close to theirs whilst still leaving room for the drivers door, both for you and the car on the opposite side.

@11:35 I saw in another video that Tesla had removed the percent offset over/under speed limit, leaving only mph or kph offset available. I find that weird and unfortunate, as I would prefer percentage, as on the highway I like to keep up with most of the traffic and find that "speeding" by around 10 mph on the highway and divided multilane secondary roads, but prefer to stay much closer to the speed limit or maybe even a little under in residential and urban streets. A 13% offset for FSD would give me close to 79 mph in 70 zone and 22 in 20 zone, without me have to fiddle with the speed. Do note: I won't be ordering my first Tesla (a Model Y LR AWD) before I can be sure it will have HW4, but it will be before they go stalkless, as I really, really want the stalk controls for turn signals, autopilot, brights and windshield wipers (i'm ambivalent regarding shifting/parking brake)

Was this due to some error on the owner's part or does the Tesla stop recording for a few seconds while it "saves" the pre-honk video, or is it a matter of media speed on the usb drive?

26:30 "to arrive at a supercharger ideally with less than 20%" - that is too much, at 20% 250kW it is already slowing down. You want to arrive at 5% (but not less, that is slower again).

@charlesbrown179 8 ай бұрын
Andy describes in other videos how draining the HV battery very low below certain percentages, like 20%, adversely affects battery longevity, so he's not going to recommend 5% just to see big kW numbers.
@lacekratochvil
@lacekratochvil 8 ай бұрын
@@charlesbrown179 I cannot send here URLs to teslamotorsclub references as KZbin forbids that but (1) lifetime of battery is affected only if you keep it at that SoC (State of Charge) for long time (days/weeks) as it only accelerates aging by a few times. When driving the 5%-20% SoC will be there for minutes so the battery of car will age by about an hour, does it matter? (2) yes, faster charging affects battery capacity. But if you supercharger a lot it will be lower by 1% in 10 years. Does it matter to wait 5 minutes more at each supercharger to have 1% of battery capacity in 10 years more. I do not find it worth it. (3) battery lifetime is known to be affected by high SoC (70%+). But it is questionable whether low SoC matters, according to various studies very low SoC is even better for the battery. But unfortunately Tesla company does not disclose their data and their advices are for comfort and against range anxiety, not for battery lifetime. After all the battery lifetime is higher than the lifetime of the car anyway. I bough my M3P as a used car with 1.4% degradation and in 25000 km it did not change.

To responders here saying that inflating tires (when cold) to the maximum rating on the sidewall, then driving, will raise the pressure beyond that number, yes that's true. But to then say it will cause the tire to fail, no. That rating is for the COLD tire pressure, and the tire manufacturers understand that the tire will heat up when driven on, and the rated number takes that into consideration. This is a separate concern from whether using that maximum sidewall pressure is appropriate for the vehicle and driving conditions in question. As with most reliability-versus-performance matters, there are compromises and tradeoffs. Certainly the ride will be stiffer with more-than-recommended pressure. And there's the potential for more tread wear near the center of the tread. Braking performance could be slightly reduced due to a marginally smaller contact patch. Upsides include a stiffer sidewall and thus improved dynamic steering response, and reduced rolling resistance due to less tire deformation at the contact patch. Also less 'tire folding under wheel' (not staying as square to the ground) during high lateral loads. Here is a reputable source that pins down the COLD part of what that maximum sidewall pressure rating means: www.tirerack.com/upgrade-garage/how-do-i-check-my-tire-specs . The relevant sentence is partway down the page: "A tire's maximum inflation pressure is the highest 'cold' inflation pressure that the tire is designed to contain." Note that the primary cause of tire failure is underinflation, not overinflation: www.slashgear.com/847809/what-really-happens-when-a-car-tire-fails/

Great video…. New Tesla y performance here…. But from everything I have read or seen , they recommend 80% max charge for daily. You’re literally the first person recommending 90%. Are you sure this is good to do?

Anyone else have an issue where the calendar does not sync well? I have an iPhone and noticed that sometimes new events (maybe added in the past day) do not show up on the Tesla calendar. Is there a way to force a sync?

I didn't know about the secret auto park trick, thanks! There are actually 6 ways to open the charge port, you forgot using the charging page on the display. I hate that the blindspot camera view is useless at night, due to the internal blinker light bleed which is a known issue with the early Model 3's. Tesla fixed it on the newer vehicles and won't replace the side repeater cameras for older cars, for free. One note about drafting (yes it's called drafting, not drifting), behind a Semi....it's illegal and dangerous. Did you get a different radar detector, because I thought you had a battery operated one and from I can see the one in this video looks like it has a power cord. How did you mount it?

Riding behind a semi is dangerous? That’s a new one. Never heard of that.
@Resist4
@Resist4 Жыл бұрын
@@guttagutta420 Then clearly you didn't pay attention at drivers training. The trucks can't see you and you won't be able to stop in time in they suddenly stop. Not to mention that their tires can throw up rocks onto your vehicle and that it's illegal to be tailgating.
@thedroneguy6914
@thedroneguy6914 Жыл бұрын
@@Resist4 A semi trucks stopping path is significantly longer than that of a Tesla, even if you yourself are not paying attention to the truck the car will literarily brake for you. The odds of you rear ending a semi are ridiculously low if you have any form of brain capacity or have forward collision enabled. Tailgating is indeed illegal however there is no problem in following a semi truck at a reasonable distance.
@Resist4
@Resist4 Жыл бұрын
@@thedroneguy6914 Following a Semi at at reasonable distance is then not drafting and you get no mileage benefit from it. And you actually might get worse mileage as the airflow converges at a point way behind the truck. As far as a Tesla braking for you goes, unless you are in Autopilot/FSD the car may or may not brake, as there have been many instances where it failed to brake and doesn't always work as designed to.
@thedroneguy6914
@thedroneguy6914 Жыл бұрын
@@Resist4 You're basing your idea of theoretical and completely dismissing my initial argument that a tesla brakes faster than a semi, therefore even if you are within a reaction time period of braking and are paying attention there is no way to rear end the semi. Drafting however, has its effects even at a distance of 100 feet, you're welcome to look this up as it's been proven time and time again. Sure you may also say that the emergency braking won't do anything however if you're intentionally drafting, paying attention and keeping a safe following speed you will see the effects of drafting a semi in your efficiency at basically 0 serious risk.
