Some tips about mining: There are no specific rocks you find ladders under, that’s governed by luck. It’s important to check the tv every day to see what today’s luck will be since the better your luck, the better your chances for finding ladders, ore spawning and other things like fish biting and such. For now, avoid the bright grey rocks and boulders if you can as they are stamina drainers until you can upgrade your pickaxe. Later, absolutely go after them as they drop more stone needed for crafting. Stamina: Your best bet right now is to rely on forgeable foods like horseradish and spring onions from the south end of the forest to the south of the farm. Your gold as you are learning is valuable and most of it for the first year or two should be invested into crop seeds as crops will be a big source of gold outside of fishing. Inventory: The only tools you need to take with you are your pick and sword. From level 5 down, there will be areas you can hoe to get useful items, like food, so it may be worth it to you to take the hoe as well. Take whatever food item you have the most of and gives you a decent amount of energy. Never throw out your coal! It’s an uncommon resource and depending on how you level your skills, can be hard to keep enough of to make ingots. Anyway, I’m always happy to watch someone enjoying one of the things I love. You’re a delight and have reminded me that I ought to play the game without mods since so much has been added from the last time I completed SDV. One more very important bit of info: build a silo *before* you build a coop. Let your grass grow for now as that becomes the hay your animals eat later on rainy days and during the winter. Hay is expensive to buy, and Marnie is unreliable as a shopkeeper. Each silo covers four animals for all of winter and about 21 rainy days for the rest of the year while pasture grazing, so plan accordingly when adding more animals. Hope I didn’t overwhelm you!

I always take a sword, pickaxe and hoe. Also a stack of the best forrest or created food i can. Stacks of spring onions are great or field snacks (crafted from tree seeds). Horseradish is also good because i never have much use for them except for crafting Spring Seeds.

Like everyone else said, a chest just inside the mine is incredibly helpful. You can go back up after unlocking the elevator every 5 floors and deposit extra goodies in there before riding the elevator back down. As others said, foragebles are great for energy. I'll suggest a few great options for this early in the game. At foraging level one, you unlock the ability to craft field snacks. Those need one acorn, one maple seed, and one pine cone each. They will give you 45 energy and 20 health. On the 15 of Spring, salmonberry season starts. For three days, the woods and paths around town will be filled with bushes that have pinkish red berries on them. You can harvest A TON of them during those days and bring them to the mines with you for food. They're worth 25 energy at their lowest quality and improve with higher foraging levels, and if you can get your foraging skill to level four, you can get extra berries from each harvest. (There's a similar blackberry season in fall.) Spring onions grow in Cindersap forest right near where the sewer grate is. They're only worth 13 energy each as a base number, but you can also get an okay number by regularly checking that area. You might also find some good food in the trashcans around town to bring. Later on, you can use cheese, stuff you cook, or food from the Saloon.

As a first time player, this game raises my anxiety too. I’ve learned that there is no end or deadline for when you have to get things done (except a few journals) and that if I didn’t get something done today, it can get done tomorrow. I’m on in game year 4, and my farm is still a major hot mess if that makes you feel any better, there’s just way to much to do in the game with very little time each day haha

Mining tips: 1) Always bring food when you go into the mines. 2) You will get a better sword but the first sword is seriously the worst. However, it doesn't cost any energy to use so you don't need to bring your scythe to break the chests and crates, the sword can do that. 3) Most stones are great for selling but try to keep the quartz, earth crystals, at least 5 diamonds, and rubies. Aquamarine, topaz, emeralds, and amethysts are great for selling. 4) Ladders are randomly found, it typically depends on your luck. So check your tv in the morning to see your luck and tips and recipes on Sundays and Wednesdays. Sometimes ladders are found under rocks or they can open up when a foe is killed. 5) Try not to sell ore or coal because those are needed for crafting the bars which are super important.

I'm enjoying watching you play without any real farm sim experience. My tips have already been covered, check tv every morning for weather, luck and cooking recipes. Chest in the mines to keep valuable items and food, elevator unlocks every 5 floors. Only bring sword and pickaxe. Every Friday and Sunday check the traveling merchant for items you need for community center, they can be found southwest of your farm in the forest. The stardew valley wiki is a great resource if your really stuck. Training rod for fishing until you level up, can only catch common fish though. Lastly relax and enjoy the game, no rush to do it all right away. I had anxiety trying it out on several different systems, but after watching many streams I finally just did it, now I try different challenges on new farms. Can't wait to see you progress 😊😊

Definitely don’t feel pressured to complete the journals in any particular time frame unless they say they have a time limit, especially on your first play through. As for buying energy items, I think the item with the best money:energy ratio that can be reliably purchased is the salads from the saloon. That being said, spring forage is great for energy food, and it’s free. As someone else mentioned, there are often a good amount of spring onions in the forest south of your farm. You can find them if you go through the south exit of your farm and go as far south as you can, they’re near the sewer grate. As the season goes on keep an eye out for when the salmonberries start to come in, you can pretty easily get a stack of a few hundred or so to supplement your energy needs.

Really enjoying your playthrough of Stardew. Your voice is very soothing 😊 I just started playing again (last week!) after not playing since 2021….the fishing mechanics were so painful for me and prevented me from advancing the story. But I watched someone’s video about fishing and I learned SO much! Here are the tips I learned: buy a beginner rod. You’ll only catch lower level fish but every catch helps to raise your skill bar. Also as soon as you get crab pots use them, and as soon as you can buy them do it because crab pots also raise your skill. Doing those 2 things raised my fishing skill from a 2 to 10 in less than a week of playing (less than 1 full year in game…the fish I needed were seasonal so it took a bit longer) & I was able to catch all the fish (6) I needed to advance in the story. Btw, I started playing in 2016 & my farm was on year 6 😂 THAT’s how difficult fishing was for me 😅
@heathershaw3059
@heathershaw3059 Күн бұрын
Yes, fishing is tough with the rod you're given. You can get a training rod to make it easier, but you only get very basic fish. Level 2-3 is when you can get crab pots. Since 2021-2022 (I started when it was 1.4 on mobile, but 1.5 was on Steam) a lot of mechanics have improved, but beginning fishing still sucks. Eat food for fishing buffs to make it easier and/or temporarily increase your level so you can buy crab pots earlier than you would normally be able to. Everything is seasonal, fish crops, etc. little spans multiple seasons, but some do, so if you miss out, you can try the next year. Speaking of seasonal... Pay close attention to the calendar, what day it currently is, and how long it takes to grow crops. Hate for your freshly plowed cropped die before they can be harvested.

hi! enjoying the video, though i keep wanting to stop and answer every question and thats not helpful. some tips: 1. collect everything you can pick up. save all the stone, wood, ore, but the rest maybe keep a few and just go ahead and sell what you can. 2. dedicate back luck days (tv will tell u if it is) to cutting down trees and breaking rocks and foraging. it is tedious but those things are very needed in the beginning. 3. click the trashcans to root around for garbage, but not in front of a character. you'll find ready to eat food there sometimes, plus trash. 4. when you have money, the best food for energy in early game play is the salads sold by Gus at the saloon. 5. make friends with Linus. he is very generous. every character has favorite things and disliked things to receive, and its fun to figure out what everyone wants. as you learn that info it will be populated in your friendship tab. 6. if something seems really expensive, its probs too soon to buy it. no rush. 7. when in the mines, every 5 floors you reach will make a new stop for the elevator. i recommend choosing a goal of diving deep OR collecting goods for each trip. right now you need experience and material, so i suggest the latter. the deeper you get the tougher your foes, so dont outpace your combat ability.

After so many levels in the mines, you get items to help with defense, attack, etc. And check the monster kills board, in the guild (to the right of the mines), but they open late and stay open late. Oh, another thing, you keep taking the longer route to get to and from the mines. Go north, then above Robin's house, then cross the bridge to the mines. It saves you time when you're rushing home. Another thing, you think Linus is in the "clutch" when you pass out, think again. Make notes on how much you actually lose. BTW, don't die, not only do you lose money, but also items, all health and all stamina (if you end up in this situation, DO NOT use a pickaxe, hoe, or axe, you'll kick yourself for it). If things went REALLY badly (or not how you wanted), exit to the title screen and start the day over.

Rocks have a random chance to give you stone, coal, copper, or a staircase to the next level. There are 120 floors in the mine. Some rocks have ore, coal, or gems in them that you can see, if you see a purple round looking rock that's one you should try to get because it can be any random gem. Crates and barrels in the mines can contain random goods from fertilizers, weapons, shoes, ore, wood, stone, geodes, gems, totems, or food. You can also get stairs down from killing monsters, and special slimes (look for the star on top of their antenna) will drop interesting things when killed. I tend to forage salmon berries and spring onions for day to day food at the start. Spring onions can be found in the south of the woods near the sewer entrance and refresh daily, and salmon berries grow on bushes all over town from the 15th to the 18th. You can use the elevator to go down deeper so you don't have to keep repeating the first levels. You get another elevator stop every five levels. If you find a dinosaur egg fishing or from an artifact spot I suggest you keep it until you can hatch it. You should also hang onto your first prismatic shard instead of giving it to the museum (It can do something cool). Keep your bars to improve your tools and build farm buildings and use for other things. It's five bars to upgrade each tool, so 25 of each bar to fully upgrade. Plus they are used in a bunch of crafting recipes like tappers, kegs, and such. You will also need 5 copper bars to build a silo so you can harvest hay to feed animals. A little trick is to put a chest in the barn beside the hay hopper and pull all the hay out and put it in the chest. The silo holds 240 pieces of hay, but each stack of hay in a chest can stack up to 999. Places you hoe will revert to natural over time if nothing is growing there. The diary mod thing is pretty cute and a nice touch for the vids. I kinda like Willy, Clint, and Marlon, but maybe that's because they all give you something for free without needing to do something for them first. You can sometimes talk to people multiple times in a row, they might have more to say. The more you talk to people the more they open up to you, there are actually some really heart touching story lines once you get to know people well. I will note that you want to put the mines chest in the entrance level of the mines, each floor where you are breaking rocks and such will randomize every time you go there so if you place a chest on one of those floors you will lose it. Gems can be sold or given as gifts. I usually set aside a few of each for gift giving stock. Different people have different likes though, if you click on people in your social tab you can see what gifts you've already given that they like, love, or hate.

I love starting with a diary entry! It's a great cozy vibe. Hope that you have fun playing the game, it's lovely to immerse in! It's more of a long-term satisfaction kind of game rather than an instant gratification kind of game. Just remember that there aren't hard deadlines in Stardew and you don't have to get everything done at once (nor can you get everything done at once, actually). All play styles are valid, but try not to pressure yourself into trying to speed run it. Everything takes time in Stardew, there's an element of slow living to the game, and there's a lot to do, explore, build, have fun with. :) Most questions you've asked this time have been answered I think, but about the tilled (hoed) soil: If there's no crop there, the soil will gradually go back to being untilled. Also, I don't recommend selling metal bars early game, because it's very needed for crafting and tool upgrades. (Coal is also good to keep.) Oh, and if you donate items to the museum, you'll get rewards for it.
@heathershaw3059
@heathershaw3059 Күн бұрын
Yes, a ton of videos of speed runners on Stardew, but you don't have to speed run it. If you want a cozy vibe, the game artificially can create pressure to get tasks done in a short window of time, but there is no penalty if you don't complete the task in time. That task will eventually come around again. FYI: You chose the beach farm. Interesting choice for your first ever play through. You might regret it, depending on what your goals are. If your goals are fishing related, you're golden, especially for ocean fish (btw, since it seems like you're ok with mods, there's a mod that will show what kinds of fish are in the water, but I don't know if that is too much like "cheating" for you. I used that mod the one time I played the beach farm.) But, if your main goal is crops, then you only have a tiny patch where you can place sprinklers on (you said something about that in the previous video). Sprinklers save your stamina for other things.

A few beginner tips: 1. Watch TV every day. You can learn many food recipes, see how much luck you will have on that day and get useful tips. In some cases luck is very important in this game. 2. Don't sell ores, bars, coal, stones, etc.. You'll need them to craft and to upgrade your tools. 3. Use your hoe on the little "worms" that appear on the ground. You'll get various things from them. 4. Give Gunther what he needs for his museum, except your 1st dinosaur egg and your 1st prismatic shard. They're very rare and you'll need them later. Gunther has some nice things for you. 5. Finish the tasks and befriend the townspeople. When their friendship level rises they will give you useful things and you'll see some nice cut scenes. 6. I hope you won't go the Joja way. 😄 Remember, they're the exploitative company you worked for before you moved to Stardew Valley.

Your first dinosaur egg should be kept yes, but they didn’t tell you why. Get a coop, then upgrade it to a Big Coop and you can then hatch your first dinosaur egg and get you a baby bowser for your farm! 😮😅 Which will produce more Dino eggs, which you can then turn in to museum. So save the first one until you can hatch in a coop. Your first prismatic shard…keep it for a special event in the desert later on. You can read the 🪦 tombstones in town by the sewer hatch to get a clue on what to do with the shard once you’ve unlocked the desert. Hope that helps without much spoilers!

FWIW - Check your tv, good luck days mean you're more likely to get stairs in the mines, bad luck days mean you don't. The elevator comes in every five floors as well so you can kind of save progress :) The big rocks and those grey shiny rocks will always give stone, but the big ones never give you a ladder. Coal is really useful to have, too. I like to fish outside the mines for energy. You can eat them raw, or the algae you fish up. If you ever find an ancient seed in there, get out, straightaway, so you don't lose it. Take it to the museum - you will get a reward that makes it worth it (don't plant it in autumn though). ****SPOILER**** On Fridays and Sundays there's a cart in the woods, buy at least one rare seed before autumn/fall.

On Fridays and Sundays, in the forest south of your farm, turn west and you'll meet a traveling merchant. Depending on the day and/or luck, she can come in clutch for random items you might want or need, but the prices, pricey, usually, but sometimes she's got Pierre/Robin beat. For fun, pet the pig.

Brown rocks have random stone chance. The grey rocks always drop guaranteed stone, but take two hits until upgrading pickaxe, then they will always be 1 hit. Purple rocks have random gems. Other rocks just look different for design purposes but have no real difference otherwise. Enemies have a flat 15% chance to drop a ladder, and after all enemies are killed, you get a small base increase in ladder chance from rocks. I would recommend that you leave your tools home or bring a chest with you and leave it upstairs inside the mine. Energy concerns? Forage around the map or fish outside the mines for some good healing free food. Having lots of fun watching you learn the game, I hope you consider not cutting so much out, nobody's gonna judge you for making mistakes or not noticing things.

In the previous video you asked about the calendar. There are 4 seasons to 1 year. Each season is 28 days, and has specific days marked for festivals and birthdays. Try to give a liked -or better yet, loved- gift on birthdays. An easy start to gift giving is daffodils, which is pretty much a universally liked gift. Don't miss any festivals because that is such an easy way to talk to everyone, and talking increases friendship points by (I think) 1/6 of a heart (but unmodded, you won't see any of these fractions of heart). Friendship does decay. So at least talk with them periodically, and gifts boost that quite a bit more, provided it's a liked/loved gift. Important!: if you want to upgrade your axe (not pickaxe) try to get it to iron -or better yet, gold- before a random event happens in the summer. No pressure if it's not to that level, but it'll make that event go so much better. But the most important part is KEEP YOUR AXE handy until that random event happens.

Yup, Concerned Ape (Eric Barone, I think?) worked on it for literal years alone, before publishing it on Steam in 2016, and even years after, it was still just himself. Now, he has a team, but I think it's still pretty small. Concerned Ape growing up loved the Super Nintendo game Harvest Moon, and he wanted to play a game like that, but although surely somebody should have created it, he couldn't find it, and so he set it upon himself to create a game to be a spiritual ancestor (so to speak) of Harvest Moon. I've played a tiny amount of Harvest Moon on the Switch, and I can see where a lot of similarities are, but, honestly, I prefer Stardew so much more (and I also grew up on the Super Nintendo too, but I never had Harvest Moon then). Over 30 million copies sold on Steam alone for Stardew Valley. Not counting the numerous purchases for mobile and various gaming consoles. (I have 3 separate copies, mobile was first for me, then Steam, and now Nintendo Switch), and it's great that it'll never be a high priced game (read an article where they interviewed him and he swore on his family's name that would never happen).

Your playthrough and narration are really enjoyable! I think you pick up on the game very quickly and make some very astute guesses. But there's a LOT to learn about this game, as everyone will tell you. Watch for little wriggly lines moving in the ground. Use your hoe on them. Some are "artifact spots" which will give you stones, coal, or other items. There's another kind too, "seed spots," which give you special seasonal seeds. These grow plants that aren't worth a lot of money but they have excellent energy and are very valuable early in the game for that reason. They grow very quickly in the spring. The other good source of free energy in the game, aside from foraged plants, is crafting "field snacks" from tree seeds. You have access to those seeds once you've hit level 1 foraging, which you probably have by now. They have pretty decent energy as well. Tree seeds can also be planted to grow new trees almost anywhere other than in town. You can also eat fish you catch, raw and uncleaned. Some have better energy than others. This roughly correlates with their monetary value, usually. On the whole though I personally try not to eat them but sell them. Energy is really important, especially early in the game, so it's wise to work out ways to replenish it as quickly as possible. South of your farm, in the Cindersap Forest, all the way down across the river, there are also wild green onions which sometimes grow in large bunches. They don't give a lot of energy but they're better than nothing! And picking them adds to your foraging skill, which is important. Other sources of energy will continue to open up as you go through the game. If you do decide to buy food, the best bang for your buck is salads from the saloon. You might also find edible items in people's garbage cans, especially the saloon's, as well as other useful things. But don't let anyone see you digging in the trash! (i.e. they should be at least 7 tiles away from you.)

Ps - early game, drop the slime and sap. You will have loads of it later. NEVER toss coal, lol. You need it to smelt ores. Don’t sell bars yet, you need them to upgrade tools. Fish, fish, fish for money, and by the mountain lake is better money early game. Largemouth bass sell for a good amount and Carp are super easy to catch and level up. Try to cut 2 trees each morning and take a chest with you to park at your fav fishing spot. When placing chests in the world, find an obscure area that NPCs are not likely to walk, too, cuz they will destroy things if in their path, so place them off to the side or like on the center island of the mountain lake. If you are into mods already, check out UI Info Suite 2, Immersive Scarecrows and Machine Progression. I haven’t seen folks using Machine progression in vids, but folks will LOVE the the content I bet! They’re game changing!

Wish you had recorded the gap of days! I love watching new people play the game. Make a chest and put it near the mine entrance. Can even put a furnace there and come up every 5 levels and unload bags, smelt some ore. Make a goal to get 5 levels at least each time you go mining so it saves progress. Good luck! Kale is great for early farming xp, money and energy. The community center doesn’t usually want it but it and carrots are amazing money/food in spring. Kale can be bought, carrots will be found by hoeing little green wormies wiggling in the dirt around the map.

Ps - don’t fear the wizard. You want to be his friend. Also, friend Caroline, Pierre’s wife. At least 2 hearts. NPCs will have events at 2, 4, 6 and 8 hearts. You’ll get amazing things from them when you reach those events, so make friends and take a sec to chat every time you pass one! Be sure to talk to everyone at festivals, too, and make Lewis, the mayor your last chat at festivals because he starts the event. Once the event starts, you cannot chat with anyone, the day ends and you are sent home at 10pm. So on festival days, plan to tend the farm quickly before in the morn and do the festival, tend any farming you didn’t have time for afterwards and maybe chop some trees or fish below your house on the bridge at bottom. Aim for the darker water spots when fishing to avoid trash more. Shallow water gives much trash. There’s usually a spot at every fishing lake/pond/river that has a darker/deeper water area. By the beach it’s on the left pier beside the big rock 🪨

For mining (if I'm not in a hurry) i kill all monsters first because that doesn't take any energy, just time (and that gets better after you find out buy a better weapon.) Next (if a ladder hasn't dropped from the dead monsters) i hit any gem or ore rocks because i would want to collect those even if a ladder showed up. Next i hit the brown and red rocks. You won't get any rocks from them (you won't get anything from them except maybe a ladder) but they only take one hit to break. Lastly i go for gray rock. You'll get rock from them but that's not that important and they take 2 hits to break which sucks. **ALWAYS hit purple rocks if you see them. They have a small chance of dropping something REALLY good. They aren't the gem rocks. They look like the one hit brown and red rocks but with a purple tinge. Lastly if i actually need to collect rock i just take the ladder down to level one over and over (to reset the floor) and hit the massive boulders whenever one populates.
@heathershaw3059
@heathershaw3059 Күн бұрын
I second the purple rock, and I use the elevator to level 5-25 (for rock and copper ore), instead of level 1 over and over. (I REALLY don't like the dark floors [levels 30-39], even though, theoretically, they give better copper ore quantities than level 25.) You don't have to constantly walk to the elevator again if you stick with floors divisible by 5.

You need to forage and fish for energy starting out. Go for spring onions daily, perhaps. Hit up berry bush seasons. Buying sugar is dumb. The saloon has salad and dish of the day can sometimes be beneficial. If the tv says spirits are annoyed. It is not the best day for mining. Avoid the light gray rocks in the mines til you upgrade your pick axe. Then kinda, prioritize them.

I buy as many seeds as I can, take care of them and rinse and repeat, you'll make good money quickly and try to grow one of each crop and keep at least one of each crop, trust me, you'll thank me later. Try set aside a day, if you can, to fish, fishing is tricky to master but it's profitable early game. Keep some of everything you find, well that's what I do anyways. I would mention where to get it, but I'm afraid that my comment might get taken down. It's a blue book with silver lettering and its very pretty. Be forwarned, the font size is a bit small. I won't spoil it (at least not completely), but since you are so concerned about money right now (you're always scraping by in the beginning) there is one product that was added in 1.6 version (the one you're playing) that probably not many people are aware of yet and it deals with a very rare and special fish that you can only get when you've leveled up to maximum. Those that have played long enough know what fish I'm talking about, and what you can do with it that keeps producing thousands of gold repeatedly, which is the most profitable product in the game. Edit: the son of that same fish also gives the same gold amount in the refined product

On the beach farm i usually place a building in the little grove with the pond in the south west (the area between the farm land and the dock. I also move my bed in the main house right next to the door so i can get to it faster if I'm running late. But now that i know it only costs stamina if you pass out in your house, that's not as important. 😊
