First comment! Strawberry Fields is a real place in Liverpool not far from John's house where he and his friends used to play. At that time it was an orphanage. They used to climb over the fence to sneak in. When John was hustled home one time by the police for trespassing, his Aunt Mimi said he was going to get in trouble for his trespassing, John answered her in his usual cheeky way, "Well, they can't hang your for it!" John would often sit in a tree observing the building and the kids playing. The rest of the lyrics seem to represent a personal mantra for him. This "song" is more of a mantra than a real song. IMHO. Classic track. Nothing recorded before or after ever sounded like this.

Strawberry Fields is run by the charity organization the Salvation Army in Liverpool. John lost his mom in an accident during his teenage years, he was depressed for quite a while, so he sometimes hung out there and chatted with the girls. Paul also lost his mom in his teenage years due to cancer. So yeah, it's probably John's nod to a place that's calming, non judgemental, and a bit surreal time from his past.

Every new generation "discovers" the Beatles. I heard them first when I was 13 in art class and was hooked.

I agree with you. Their music is timeless. I’m 69 and was around for the beginning. Before the Beatles…..most music was old fashioned. Now you know why we went crazy for them. Their music was so different from what came before them. And you are right about their songs were all so different. Nothing sounded the same. I don’t know how they came up with so many different tunes.

Hola Linda, al igual que tu tengo 69 años. Recién pude apreciarlos en su verdadera dimensión tras la separación. Esto no fue un grupo de música popular, sino un irrepetiible milagro de la historia del arte. Slds. dde. Argentina.

You get it :) The best-selling artists of all time because, as you said, they made music for every generation. Perfectly said. BTW, your reaction (a few years ago) to their concert in Australia (1964) was one of my favorite reactions ever. 🫶🏽

Say Hey JB, Strawberry Fields is a place I visited when some friends and I did a Beatles pilgrimage to Liverpool years ago. We visited all of their childhood homes, theaters they played, went to the Cavern Club for a show, went to the roundabout at Penny Lane. A commenter further down the page gives some great Strawberry Fields info. Loved your reaction. I agree that The Beatles are timeless.

Top 20 Beatles song bro. If you listen to the 240 plus songs from 1960-1969, 200 are bangers and the rest are better than other bands greatest hits!

When John Lennon was a kid he used to play with other kids from an orphanage down the street. The orphanage was called strawberry fields. But I think the song is just a reminiscent innocent moment in time. Everyone has one.

JB, after you finish reading what I’m going to write, sit down and reflect upon it, ok ? When I first thought of this, it blew my mind. They wrote more than 300 songs, had more #1 hits than any other band before or since. They have sold more albums than any other band and are regarded by the most number of people as the greatest band and songwriters, ever. Here’s the part that blew me away : … when they broke up, they were all of them, still in their twenties. Let that sink in for a moment.

A real work of genius. A haunting evocation of childhood and times past. Gives a sense of loss and dislocation. John Lennon created the first soundscapes in popular music and influenced so much which came after, including bands like Pink Floyd. Listen to “Tomorrow Never Knows” 👍

There is a piece of Central Park across from where Lennon lived in the Dakota on Central Park West at the time he was killed that is named Strawberry Felds in his honor. People picnic, play frisbee, fly kites and just hang out there. It's a really pretty spot and there is a mosaic work of art in the ground titled "Imagine' for his song of the same name . You can take a tour of it on KZbin.

AND on the anniversary of his birthday and of his death, crowds come from all over to that area, with guitars, drums, sometimes a keyboard and sing Beatles and solo John Lennon songs ALL DAY and into the evening. You can find a lot of VIDEO on these gatherings on You Tube, taken by people who were participating. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ql6YgXqtiLmWpKM

Pre-drugs? Hardly. Bob Dylan introduced them to pot in late 1964 when he was touring England. Some friends they were visiting for dinner in early 1966 slipped some LSD in their coffee. John and George took their first trip. Ringo shortly thereafter. Paul was the last because of some of the bad things he heard about LSD. They all smoked pot on a regular basis, but Paul became the heaviest user. Got busted for it in Japan in 1977 or 1978. John took LSD every day for about two years (66-68). Ringo was quoted years later that the songs on Rubber Soul and Revolver were influenced by what he called "The Substances."

Great song as the majority of theirs is. I always thought Strawberry fields was about being high, I'm sure one of the beatles referenced LSD when referring to this song in an interview.

Old enough to remember when this was released as single. I’ve always thought it can mean many things, so I try not to think too much. On a personal note, I’ve always preferred the early takes found on Anthology 2. At the time 67, production gains squeezed out the emotions. Think early takes are more more “charming “

Have you had the pleasure of hearing Ren- Hi, Ren? If not you should it's epic. Your newest video where you talked about happiness and your stuggles. Its what reminded me of Hi, Ren. The song literally is about Ren's internal battle with himself. The video was done in one take it is absolutely amazing. Please check it out.

You mean that atrocity that starred the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton? A few good covers on the soundtrack (check out Earth, Wind and Fire doing "Got To Get You Into My Life"), but overall a bomb.
