Fun fact, when I was a young teen and just getting into Skillet, I was friends with a guy who was "more Christian" than me. I mentioned that I thought that Monster was a good song, and that I related to it as someone with mental health issues, since I often felt like a monster, and how it's a good metaphor. He got mad at me because he said "Well clearly it's about being a Christian in America, cause it's a Christian band, so all their songs have to be about God and Christianity, and it's about how you have to hide that you're a Christian in America." I disagreed, since just because someone is a Christian doesn't mean they can't talk about other things besides God, and that it doesn't invalidate my analysis that it could be about mental illness. He blocked me.

Man, that guy needed a wake up call, I sure hope he got one. :x Coming from another Christian's perspective, it's easily a song about sin, sure, absolutely, 100% agree. But it can also be interpreted like that as well like any other song. Mental illness certainly can feel like a monster in its own right, no less causing someone to feel like a monster themselves. His having a cow over you having another thought about it was absolutely uncalled for and I really hope he eventually saw how out of line he was. Real sorry that happened to ya. :c

I always interpreted the mental illness side too. I’ve had depression since I was 4 and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 21, which certainly feels like a monster. It’s also a commentary on how we’re made to feel in the church sometimes: like it’s some big secret we have to hide to keep up appearances. So I totally get where you’re coming from.

Skillet was actually the first band that I've ever listened to that I liked. Some years ago I started listening to them when I was 9 or 10 and then tried more heavier songs which led me to Three Days Grace, and Breaking Benjamin. Then I went on to Bullet for my Valentine which then got me thinking hmm. So I went on with Demon Hunter, Exodus, Iron Maiden, SlipKnoT, and Fucking Slayer, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and lots more. So basically Skillet was the starting point of Metal for me.

Anything after awake and alive is garbage. Rise has a few good songs... that whole invincible album is straight trash. I used to love skillet but songs like feel invincible and sick of it have made me really despise them... their new sound is more techno and dubstep rather than rock. Straight garbage. Collide is their best album followed by comatose

Conrad Watson into the fire was probably my least favorite song on that album. Not a shot, decent song. It’s just a radio song when they have better ones. I’d rather him listen to the entirety of their first 2 albums before pretty much any other song besides alone in a room anyway.
