Hi! Loved the video guys. I use to live in Oxfordshire and worked in Oxford most of my adult life, I moved to Kent 9 years ago but do miss the place and it was great to get to see the old place as it is these days. I once worked in a shoe shop in the covered market and our stock and staff room was up on the same level as the café you were in so I use to eat my lunch looking out at a similar view. I have also spent many great evenings in the Turf Tavern after work and enjoyed the odd Sunday lunch. Happy happy days.

We absolutely loved our lunch at the Georgina’s Greek café because the ambience of the market was just so welcoming and vivid! We’d definiely stop by for at least a drink at the Turf Tavern next time because the place was amazing 🍻 Love coming across such historical gems!

hi guys, i was born down there, im 60 years old now, i never went to uni there, but what i did do my claim to fame, was i played cricket, football, and did athletics for the county of oxford as a teenager my home track, was where Sir Roger Banister broke the 4 minute mile, ifley road oxford, i ran at crystal palace in the 3 AAA'a for oxford some grea time and memories.

Your "mound" at the castle is the "motte" belonging to the Norman castle, the "keep" which once surmounted the motte has succumbed to the ravages of time. However, at 31:46 is seen a tower at a corner of the outer defensive walls of the castle; this is St Georges tower and predates the Norman castle (Poore et al. 2009, 5-6) and is of Anglo-Saxon date, possibly dating to c.1000AD belonging to the town's pre-conquest fortifications and possibly a gated entrance to the walled town of which there were once four. Otherwise much of the medieval castle is now gone and replaced by later military buildings and the prison.

@@JayandKarolina You are very welcome; I just love everything on history from the Mesolithic on, and medieval/Roman buildings, I'm a buildings chap and went on to be a historian and architect. I dug my first Roman Villa near our village when I was eleven. I was the man on the trowel, I decided to be really top notch with the trowel, and complete rubbish on the wheelbarrow!!! Have to have your priorities right in this life eh!

It was Louis Carol who wrote Alice in Wonder land . Now you will have to visit Cambrdge and the American War Cemetray its almost as big as the one in Normandy, If you have been to Univeristy in the UK you can stay inside the university in the students rooms for a small amount when the students vacate for the summer,

Yes, we really liked the Alice's shop which was created in Oxford since he's been living there :) We actually met in London in 2019 and lived on one of the students' so it was pretty cool! We still might visit Cambridge this summer because we really like it too!

Nice one guys. One of my favourite cities to wander around, once you get used to the tourists of course (and they are still there in their thousands in the Winter too). We'll be there again ourselves soon so this was a nice way to whet the appetite.

Hi interesting to note I too was at that church & tower 6 weeks ago but then all the tents were parked down below where the Radcliffe camera building is& had been there for a very ling time just so good to see those protesters have been moved on as it wasn't a good look for such a magnificent building in the heart of Oxford

That’s interesting! We’re glad it’s not the same case anymore because them people would really ruin the experience of the others. We usually don’t mind when people protest in favour of them rights but let’s be real: most of the time it’s just to draw the attention and most people around are not the target group anyways :)

When in Oxford as an Oxonian you need to visit the Pitt-Rivers museum! Among the eclectic collection are the remains of Dodo bird! That’s probably why it ended up in the story of Alice’s adventures in Wonderland! Liked the video - thanks! ❤

I believe Lewis Carroll created Alice in Wonderland while working in Oxford, so that explains the toursit angle in Oxford for it. Got to say, the quote about the Meadows being 'kind of meadowy' is outstanding. 😀

We totally agree! Just going on the bus which leaves every 15 minutes form the P&R area and which drives you all the way up to the city centre within another 10 minutes was so convenient! Usually we would struggle with free parking or pay ridiculous amounts for couple of hours in other UK cities!

From St Mary’s tower the college to the right of the Radcliffe Camera is All Souls….elected fellows only. The Radcliffe Camera is indeed a small but very elegant part of the Bodleian library. The college to the left is Brasenose, much used in the filming of Morse.

You're right :) - The roads were quite wide and the best part was that there really wasn't many cars passing by! Mostly there was buses with tourists or lorries coming with the essential deliveries!

Did you not know that Alice Liddell was the daughter of the dean of Christ Church and Lewis Carrol ( real name Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) was a fellow of Christ Church. The little shop features in one of Tenniel’s drawings in ‘Alice through the looking glass’, but of course it wasn’t called Alice’s shop then!

Another lovely video. A couple of points lol. How did you find out you had to park outside Oxford and take the bus in? Thats some great research lol I think most of us would have driven in. Also, I personally like Museums and old stuff so it would have been nice to have seen what the rarest things were like in there however I understand the cost point of view as well. When we use the car to get into places, always one of my biggest struggles is cheap parking haha so I'm doing the research in advance :) It was such a convenient way for us and also we could film it so now all the viewers know the trick! I personally find it difficult to vlog in the museums because it's pretty personal but on the other hands it's good to share interesting places to visit for people! Oh yes, Karolina is living her best life in the UK because there's so many great coffee shops with delicious CAKES too 😍🍰

Need to do an alternative day in Oxford. Visiting places like Jericho, North Parade, Summertown, Westgate roof terrace, Headington for the house with a huge shark half stuck in it's roof and the Cowley Road area for its sheer diversity and authenticity of this fabulous City that is more than just the colleges. Sporting highlights include watching championship football with OUFC, ice hockey, speedway and the dogs! There's plenty of suburban watering holes and restaurants plus lots of interesting places on the outskirts ie: Bicester Village, Burford and the cotswolds, Jezza's New pub and last but not least a site visit to see one of the most iconic cars in the world...the mini factory!
