First of all thanks for coming. O wpuld also say never ever call it the Kay-vern quarter. Its Cav-en. Also its 'The Phil' or Phil-amonic - you never pronounce the H. Opposite the Phil is The Casa Bar on Hope Street which is a very socialist place wkrh a lot of history about Liverpool dockers. Tbe Phil does lovely chicken pies. Next time go to Goodison Park Everton , go see the Naked Men Anthony Gormley sculptures at Crosby Beach and go to Bold/Castle Street for food and The Lion Tavern and Roscoe Head and Thomas Rigbys and Ship and Mitre for a pint. Also you didn't have a bowl/pan of scouse! It's basically our answer to Irish stew. Normally the Anglican Cathedral or Metropolitan Cathedral restaurants do it. Also next time go in the Catholic cathedral crypt. As for the Albert Dock I'd reccomend Docklands Fish and Chips and Ruben's coffee and Italian canolis etc. As for the museums Liverpool has a very left wing trade union industrial abolitionist history (The Roscoe Head pub is named after an abolitionist MP) . Maybe come back when Evertons new stadium in tbe Kings Dock is open and go walk around the Tobacco Warehouse. Glad you made a video on my home city voted along with Glasgow which is extremely similar to Liverpool as the friendliest city in the UK. We also have rhe most parks and listed buildings outside London and films use Liverpool due to its Georgian architecture to pose as London.

Few people notice it, but the two salons in the Philharmonic are called Brahms and Liszt, because in rhyming slang that is the phrase for 'inebriated'. Liverpool humour. 😊 The Grande Lounge between them is featured in a surprise visit by Paul McCartney. It's towards the end of a video here called Paul McCartney Carpool Karaoke, with James Corden.

Some info and pronunciation helps. That would be Lie-ver building and Lie-ver bird. Cunard is Q-nard The Port of Liverpool building is a rejected design for the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral The road behind the three graces is the original shore line. Not Elvis, Billy Fury. That would be Cah-ven club.

@@JayandKarolina Most visitors to Liverpool miss out the Metropolitan Cathedral, which is their loss. I went to a few events in the Metropolitan Cathedral soon after it opened and would recommend it to any visitor to Liverpool, there are plenty of gothic cathedrals around the UK to visit but the Metropolitan Cathedral is very much a singular building. I also worked on Saturdays (and school holidays) in Lewis's department store and the view out of the window looked over Central Station towards the Anglican Cathedral. Central Station was being remodelled to cater for the underground line and the last cranes were coming down from the outside of the Anglican Cathedral when I was working there.

@UJSupanova5 ай бұрын
@@BennyBlanco481Nothing, they were designed as part of the building when it opened. They were the symbol for Royal Liver Insurance and given the name the Liver Birds. Liverpool was originally called "Liver(sometimes Lyver) by the pool" until 1207 when it was given the name "Liuerpool" by King John in his letters patent.
@neilgodwin65315 ай бұрын
The "birds" were made by the Bromsgrove Guild, who also made the main gates at Buckingham Palace (their name is on the lock). The Liver Birds are so big, a special, huge workshop was built on a hill in Bromsgrove, visible from much of the District. I passed the Guild buildings on my way to school. Unfortunately, the Guild has ceased operating and the Liver Birds workshop has been demolished for luxury apartments. There are photographs of the Birds under construction. The Guild also made various items for the Titanic. Nowadays, a different Bromsgrove company makes the medals given to those on the Honours List. Look at HD photos of recipients proudly displaying their awards, you may be able to see "Worcestershire Medals Services, Bromsgrove" inside the lid of the case

The phrase "happy as Larry" is a colloquial expression meaning extremely happy or content. It is primarily used in British and Australian English. The exact origin of the phrase is uncertain, but there are a couple of theories: 1. **Larry Foley**: One popular theory suggests that the phrase refers to Larry Foley, a famous Australian boxer from the 19th century. He was reportedly very successful and wealthy, leading to the association of his name with happiness and contentment. 2. **Larboard**: Another theory posits that the phrase might have nautical origins, with "Larry" being a playful alteration of "larboard" (an old term for the left side of a ship), used in conjunction with "happy" to describe sailors who were content when the sea was

Hi guys! Thanks for the cool video. It makes me reminisce about my trip there last October. And yes, I also ate at the Philharmonic! It's the place where Paul McCartney played a surprise gig during James Corden's Carpool Karaoke episode! By the way, I hope to return to Liverpool next year. *fingerscrossed 😁By the way, YNWA from Jakarta! ✊

hi again Jay the 3 graces are named after the mythological Greek Three Graces who were the goddesses of charm, beauty and creativity, and some look at them as guarding the city, it is also said that should one of the LIVERBIRDS disappear then Liverpool would cease to exist

Something you may not have noticed is how beautiful and unique the architecture is, many of the famous Gotham city (Batman comic) movie scenes where shot in Liverpool. (the Liver building and Georges hall being 2 of them) - *next time you watch the movie keep a look out :) *btw - it's pronounced 'Kav'in' - not Kay-vern (i imagine many Beatles fans and people from Liverpool where probably cringing when you was saying that lol. - *Liverpool is lit up so beautifully at night (it's very romantic) and you can just wander around like you have here.

Thanks for pointing this out Kevin! Maybe we didn't talk about it enough, but we hope every viewer will appreciate these beautiful buildings from times gone by :) Because indeed a lot of films have been made around them!

The metropolitan (Catholic) cathedral actually opened before the Anglican cathedral. If you had gone to the top floor in the museum you would've seen the modle of the original design of the catholic cathedral
@deiniolbythynnwr9265 ай бұрын
It's a shame we never got the original. All we got was a concrete tent.
@Stvalgore895 ай бұрын
@@deiniolbythynnwr926 yeh it would be amazing to see something of that scale. Would probably still be getting built now like lol
@neilgodwin65315 ай бұрын
I remember in the 60's, some feared the Anglican cathedral would never be completed. I believe it was 1880 when an Act of Parliament was passed to build it, but it was 1904 before King Edward VII consecrated the site and two world wars, a pandemic and a Great Depression later, it was formally opened by Her Late Majesty in 1978.

I didn't understand what happened with your originally intended hotel, but the one in Chester seemed excellent. And, to be fair, Liverpool seemed to offer a lot to the visitor. The pub you visited (the "Philharmonic") seemed an incredibly beautiful building and the city centre as lots of top-end shops No disrespect to any who cone from there, but Liverpool seems a lot better than I had expected. A really good video. But...please...Liver Bird to rhyme with "hive" of bees, and Cavern Club rhymes with Tavern.

Haha sorry we didn't want to focus on the negatives but let's put it this way: we didn't feel secure leaving all our stuff in a suspicious looking Airbnb. But luckily, we partnered with THE SEVEN and it was an incredible hotel! We couldn't believe that you can dine with chandeliers in such a beautiful space ❤️❤️ Ate one of the best pies in our lives at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms indeed 😊 Sorry for the pronunciation mistakes haha so many people pointed it out so I feel a bit ashamed!
