Stop looking in house for food, all towns have fruit trees (don't waste energy on orchards) open inven by non pine tree to see darker colored fruit, if find 1 fruit circle the tree with inven open to find more. Move 100-200m away, wait 5 min then check the same trees again, a player in the area causes trees to spawn fruit, and causes mushrooms to spawn in forests. Fruit trees can also be found in forests especially on the edge. To eat rotten or unknown food- you eat 3 bites at a time and wait for arrows to go back down before eating 3 more bites, without getting sick. So loitering in forests or in town causes fruit, mushrooms to spawn. Look up fishing guide which is very accessible for a new soawn- 3 fish will max out your hunger. Carry food, water in your stomach, not your inven. Your levels are not maxed out until it only flashes up 1 arrow. Build imrov shelter on a hilltop to stash food for your next spawn. Look into farming crops.

My mate gifted me this game probably back in 2015. I was in for about 20 minutes. Got griefed by hackers flying around the map who then teleported the entire server into the sky. Which somehow caused me to be kicked and globally perma-banned for "hacking". It now sits dead in my Steam library unable to be used. Good times...

Community servers are so much more fun than playing official servers. If you want a better experience I would recommend playing the DayOne community servers! There are no bases, its mostly vanilla, and the servers focus on player interaction.

As someone with about 6k hours on dayz, I could never clown on someone that's new, the game has a very big learning curve and if I see someone new I always try to help them with whatever and I hope for them to stick around enough for them to learn the game and have more fun in it, the game is really unique and most people think its too hard and they stop playing which is really sad in my opinion as I would love to see this game become as popular as it used to be. Would love for you bub games to keep trying the game out and stick around and get some teammates who can help you on your journeys and teach you the game mechanics as this game is really dear to me and would love it to become more mainstream.

-- a + sign next to a crate means there's loot inside. it's vicinity loot. you need to open your inventory near it. -- holding your hands up while walking backwards allows you to block. after the zombie attacks you twice, you can hold left shift and punch to do a power punch and stun the zombie. you can keep timing the power punches to stun lock the zombie. honestly this was painful to watch lol I'm sure youll get the hang of it eventually. -- you can change from 1st to 3rd and vice versa by pressing enter on your numpad. i suggest reading the controls.

DayZ is a much much slower paced game than Rust. There's a reason people call it a walking simulator lol. If you play Official again, my advice is to get food first and then go inland. If you find a sharp object you can skin animals and people for bones which you can then turn into knives and fishing hooks. Also look out for wells for clean water, nearly every town and city has a well somewhere.

The base building does take forever especially with modded base building. Its like you live there and literally spend hours working on it collecting more supplies. Btw you can double click items on the ground to grab them quickly into your inventory provided you have the space.

I'd say keep up the good work, DayZ is a cool immersive experience with a steep learning curve and fascinating mechanics. I almost built a tent once, but only know the early game. What got me hooked was boxing some sucker on the shore that had a meat tenderizer and I only had a can of beans and knocked him out thinking I killed him, just for him stripped of his loot, entered the building I was in, shook his head at me and left.

Airfields are usually the go to spots for pvp, like others have said most head inland and the north west airfield is pretty popular. I'll be honest building did my head in when i first learnt it too, best bet is to find a building with one entrance and just put a load of doors down. Keep your flag up and indoors too, it's basically the TC.
