It’s actually remarkably safe for what it is. There has been some recent deaths but they have had so much innovation that the chances are extremely small. Some of these crashes were back before safety was really making large strides. A lot of racing fatalities came from the neck being internally decapitated essentially but they wear something called a HANS device that keeps the neck and body from separating due to sudden stops. There’s also a bar like structure infront of the drivers that keeps their heads from hitting debris or being decapitated by other cars or guard rails or light posts etc.

@@futurecorpse7330 I love f1 and I understand the safety. I'm also a big rallying fan but I hold the opposite thought for rally. The sense of danger is what makes it exciting. Obviously the basic safety of normal cars like airbags and adding a roll cage but I miss when the fans would stand on the course until the car was 1 second away from them then move off

The one where you paused up around 7:30 was Robert Kubicka. That was a serious crash, but like most of the time in modern F1, he walked away. However, not too long after this he had a rallying accident in the F1 off-season that caused life-changing damage to his arm and ended his F1 career. But him being Robert Kubicka, a very talented F1 prodigy of his time, managed to actually get back into F1 just for a season or two several years later at Williams when it was running at the back. Not really a come back and a bit sad to see him as a back-marker, but at that point he's not there to "race" but to help develop the car. Either way, crazy story.

funny part about these cars is that the more "spectacular" crashes with parts flying all over are usually much better for the health of the drivers, as all of the pieces around are meant for both Aerodynamic gains and for when a crash happens all those bits and pieces that come flying off are taking force off of the crash itself, what's really dangerous are the crashes where the F1 car just stops in it's tracks as then all those forces hit the driver at once

The straight line speed is impressive, (around 225mph at max), however, it's the cornering speed of these things which is truly astounding. A driver during certain bends is experiencing 3 - 4G on their neck. (Imagine the weight of your head in a helmet x 4). The cars have so much downforce created by both front and rear wings, that technically the car can drive upside down on a tunnel ceiling and the brakes have been said to be like hitting a brick wall when applied! 3 times world champion Jackie Stewart said they you're basically a pilot in an aircraft that's been engineered upside down.

A good thing to remember with these types of compilations is that everyone involved is ok at the end of it all. Also, instead of seeing the start of a wreck and immediately pausing the video, try to watch it through. It will help you to not think of the worst, as you will quickly see the driver get out of the car ok.

Someone proly already explained it but maybe not. The reason the cars flip so easily is A. They are as Light as they can Possibly Design them to be and B. They are so fast the amount of G Force and Downforce created from the Cars power and Design Make it Extremly unstable when it loses control or comes off the ground as with any vehicle of course but in these cars its as easy as one mistake and you can totally lose it like you are seeing in the video. Looks like you skipped/cut Roman Grosjean's greatest masterpiece, just before he retired. A little insight into modern F1. You'll only really get TV footage, or at least replays, when they are sure the driver is OK or at least only minor injuries. When Romain crashed, everyone, even lots of the paddock and other drivers were just waiting on news. But after some heart stopping delay, like 20 minutes or so where we did all think the worst had happened, they confirmed he was OK and the replays/discussion started. You won't have all the angles, TV commentary, etc, if the outcome was bad. Grosjean's car split in half, wedged the monocoque into the barrier, engulfed in a fuel fire and was there for nearly 30 seconds. He climbed out of that damn car and hopped over the fence, jogging to the safety team. He suffered some burn damage, mostly to his hands. However, short of some scarring to his hand and maybe a bit of psychological impact, he's all good and he went straight from his F1 retirement/crash to IndyCar. Honestly, the whole crash, escape and shots of Romain in the aftermath are something to behold. In your own time, just watch a full video on that crash.

@@Kyle86910 power steering and having to drive ovals is not what makes a driver great lol If you value versatility so much, just look at Fernando Alonso. F1 world champion, WEC world champion, 2x 24h le mans winner, 24h daytona winner, took part in dakar rally with a good result, and was contending for victory in the 2017 indy500 before his engine gave out. There, THAT is versatility As for grosjean, he was a below average f1 driver. If anything, he is doing better in indy than he was on f1 Then you also have retired f1 drivers or f1 drivers who were out of a job in f1, and then went on to indy car for more success. Unless you insist on a US-centric view, F1 is by far the pinnacle of 4 wheeled motorsport, and is the most desired title out there.
