A very perceptive and erudite reaction - I enjoyed listening to what you had to say. One of my favourite observations about Raye that I've come across is that 'she's very classic, but also a little bit gangster'. Her blend of unexpected influences, her confidence and her vulnerability, stamped with her own personality and innate musicality, make for a performance that is both highly accomplished and thrillingly original.

Raye has renewed my hope that music can be great. I appreciate this incredible woman so much. Her performance at the Brit Awards is INCREDIBLE. It’s a medley and she absolutely kills it

She has such a beautiful voice! All jazz singers have that unique vocal timbre that just hits the ears right! Thanks for the reaction!

I know you’re gonna become a huge fan of her within seconds. She’s the most exciting vocal discovery for me this year! Every song is better than the last. Watch a medley that she did the awards this year. That’s the next best thing to watch. Then you should watch Genesis. And recently, she’s saying an exciting rendition of “it’s a man’s world”. She also has a performance on SNL that you should watch.

the "band at the back" is Raye's typical band. The orchestra was for this show. She loves performing with full orchestra when possible. She's a music, vocal and lyric genius. The recording was well engineered because this was recorded for audio/video reproduction afterwards.

Good to have you back Carl. First time I listened to RAYE, she has a fun vibe to her.

Hello Carl, thank you so much for this wonderful reaction and analysis, this was worth the wait for sure! And thank you also for calling my relentless and stubborn insistence on Raye a "popular demand" ... :) You're a wordsmith for sure! - I had to smile a bit when you said you were getting annoyed because you wanted to get to know an artist like her for so long (something along these lines...), you could have had her earlier... but not much if that depended on me, I discovered her about 4 months ago, and I think I let you know about her quite at the beginning of my journey, because she didn't take long time to make me a believer, actually only about a few minutes, and as I really appreciate your approach to music and arts in general and to presenting your reactions, I would have recommended her as soon as I knew I'd found a gem, just as I did with Faouzia... Anyway, now you've found her and I'm glad about that, I had no doubt you would appreciate her art, knowing your reactions to AJ and Faouzia and Diana... You know I love all of these, their unique and beautiful voices, their vocal control and deep musicality, their dedication to their craft, but RAYE gave me something on top, I even struggle to find the right words to describe that, but you mentioned a lot of things that must have to do with that, her incredible stage presence and self-ownership, her being uncompromisingly and 100% herself, the conviction, her having found her sweet spot as you put it... - and believe me, you ain't seen nothing yet, it seems her creativity and versatility have no boundaries, she's completely free in her access to all parts of her voice, and, as it seems, her emotions, she can go from extremely vulnerable ("Please Don't Touch", Hunger Session acoustic) to extremely fierce ("Hard Out Here") in the blink of an eye in her live shows... And she never sings a song the same way twice, which makes it real fun to follow her live shows, she will always surprise you, a song presented in a rock version one night might become a bossa nova the other day. She and her band members are really one musical body and are interacting and communicating extremely well, I have no idea how and when they find time to practice all of that stuff because for the last couple of months they've been touring half of the world and played another festival or solo show almost every other night, the most iconic and prestigious one being the Montreux Jazz festival. Her set there was extremely inspired, and she put out the whole thing on vinyl and on all digital platforms... A must watch is definitely her incredible rendition of James Brown's "It's A Man's World" at Montreux (on her channel). So thank you again for your reaction, made my day! Have a great day and enjoy it, peace and love from BavaRAYEa! Now you have at least an idea why I'm rooting for her so strongly...
