I'll be honest and that Asymmetrical Surfboard seemed way too slow and lacked floatation for your weight. Maybe a longer, wider, or thicker board with more volume would correct for the lack of speed and floatation? Don't know. I just know you would have surfed much better on one of your regular boards. I got my surfboard stolen once and I was broke and couldn't get another one for some time. So I had to borrow different boards from friends to go surfing every time. It was a good lesson on what worked and what didn't work for my height, weight, and surfing style. Having the right surfboard (for you) is really important. There's nothing like standing up on a board that is just right (lots of speed, responsive, well balanced, good floatation, works on varying wave heights, etc...). The right board can make all the difference. The wrong board can lead to very frustrating sessions.

What you may not know is that the waves you showed here are better than most summer waves in downtown Santa Barbara. You make them look fun! We have some spots but if they were this rideable there'd be 50 guys out! Of course we can always go on a short field trip.

Sometimes a "gutless" day hits just right cause you can just catch small stuff and not get worked and just ride waves all day fooling around going from shredding to floating on your back.

I had an asymetrical windsurfing board back in the day and the long rail was for bottom turns and the short rail was for hitting the lip...Specifically made for rights....I think all asymmetrical boards are made for only one direction...Not a hundred percent sure on that....I know one thing... I need a 5'8" soft top retro fish...lol.
@davidgough35123 жыл бұрын
Asymms are about heelside v. toeside, not going on rights v. lefts. So you select for regular v. goofyfoot, with the drawn out rail on the toe side and the rounder, shorter outline on the heelside.
@robbieevans65363 жыл бұрын
@@davidgough3512For windsurfing on waves the asymmetrical board is wave specific and apparently it turns out that there are two schools of thought in surfing...This is a quote from an article..... wavelengthmag.com/asymmetrical-surfboard/ ..."So far as I’m aware, the only surfer to have experimented with asymmetrical craft on the world tour is Josh Kerr, and like Garrett he took a wave-specific rather than a stance-specific approach. Kerr came equipped with a whole quiver of asymmetricals to the contest at Teahupoo a few years ago, all of them with a slightly longer inside rail - the heel-side rail for Kerr, in direct contradiction of the stance-specific school of thought."
@davidgough35123 жыл бұрын
@@robbieevans6536 Teahupoo is definitely a special case ! I assume he wanted hold on the inside rail that would quickly downturn without going to a reluctant to turn pintail gun. Normal waves you'll see plenty of YT with surfers going both ways on asymms, to enhance their forehand and backhand turns regardless of overall wave direction. Ryan Burch is a good example. Good to know because people have shied away from asymms because they think the boards are only meant for one direction. Great to see designs opening up.
