During a actual war and everyone in the stadium was anxious and nervous about possible attacks and she brought that song to life and made everyone in that stadium united and proud to be an American citizen. I'm not trying to downgrade Chris's rendition at all/ because it was a great performance but Whitney gave the performance of her life and the look of being proud to be American on her face was honestly the most joy I've ever seen someone have while singing the national anthem. I've always heard star spangled banner & thought it's just a poem being sung to the tune of an old British drinking song (which it is), but Chris made it a national anthem.! My father in law was in the hospital during the superbowl that year, and me and my husband were visiting him. When CS started singing my jaw hit the floor, and I instantly teared up. He gave a soul stirring performance! We’re all combat vets, and every one got emotional. I wanted to shout like I was in church! Lol! That was also my last time seeing my sweet FIL though…RIP RJS
