Hello! My name is Stick the Eagle (“Stick” for short) and I am currently attempting a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. I am traveling NOBO from Georgia to Maine. There are lots of sub 3lb tents, and even 2lb for more expensive ones. You’ll need an insulated pad also to go with it too. You can cut that weight about in half without much effort. Woot on 1K!

REI Flash 2 tent is WAY lighter and not expensive at all. I think I paid $70 for mine. Cut way back on the food. Dump a bunch in a hiker box or mail it forward. There are so many opportunities along the way to get more food, you don't need to be carrying more than a couple days worth of food right now. Love your enthusiasm for the trail!

Glad you are having fun out there. Congratulations on 1,000 subscribers. There will be some outfitters that can help you figure out the hammock. I know ENO but not sure if it's what you prefer. The weight of your pack will go down when you send winter gear back home. Just wait until after the Smoky Mountains. It's not uncommon to run into snow and colder weather. You've got this.

Looked like you had an awesome day…and i was wondering how long it would be before you started thinking about switching to a tent…hopefully you will find something that works well for you…and I imagine it wont take long for you to realize what you can get rid of now that you are actually on trail and using your pack contents daily and learning more of whats very important to have and what you packed out of worry and “just in case” scenarios. Rooting for you. You are young, have a good attitude and i think you have what i takes to make it all the way

Hey Stick! I can send you a “Gossamer Gear The One” tent for free if you want it. A good Trail Magic gift. I just bought a Zpacks Duplex and I no longer use the Gossamer Gear tent. It just sits in my gear closet. I would love to see it put to some good use. It weighs 17.7 oz.

My tent (SMD Skyscape Trekker) and pad (NEMO Tensor) weigh a total of 2.5 pounds. With stakes and ground sheet, just under 3 pounds.
