There is no need to put spacers on the ends of the boards. Wood does not expand lengthwise. It will only expand across the grain.

I saw this guy spray his aluminum boat on the inside with this product used in the bed of American pickup trucks . It’s a rubberized bed liner about 3 to 4 mm thick it did a amazing job eliminating vibrations and noise also it insulated the boat and helped with condensation, there are quite a few brands. Also it is chemical and oil proof

So the boards that line the cabin get painted, for good reason, but the filler strips behind don't? Hope your intern does not take that lesson to heart. There only one way to do something and that is to take the time to do it correctly or at least make that attempt. The wiring has always been first rate, many other aspects not so much. The Tug is very cool, hope it gets the attention it deserves.
