Thanks for taking us all the way to Formosa with you, these fishing-vessels with all the pipes underneath look pretty smart. They must be quick-and surely quite cheap to built, I wonder why we don't see solutions like this in Europe, as it seems a smart idea. I admired your work on your first boat, that is starting to look very good too, but to keep your growing fleet in good nick, you'll need a lot of time and money for all the work they need, and for their maintenance. Best of luck with that task, Peter.

In the winter some ventilation will reduce or eliminate the interior ice that melts. Just covering it will not. We sealed a porch up so tight this happened, when we let some air flow in it stopped.

If you have a metal building with a warm inside and freezing exterior you will get ice inside and dripping when it melts. Unless you insulate and add a vapor barrier keeping heat in and cold out it will still freeze and drip. I cannot see how putting up those boards on the ceiling is going to cure the problem in the boat. They look great and in a different climate this might work. Next winter will tell this tail.

Formosa looks a lively place. As a side note. James Dyson started his fortune by making Tube Boats.... then a wheelbarrow with a ball, not wheels.... then his vacuum company. Tube boats are very durable too.... as each tube is its own watertight compartment.... unlike a hull. 😀

One of the most important issues when fitting out a boat's interior is the ventilation between the hull and the interior. If you make mistakes here, you always fight against mold and a musty smell. Especially on a steel hull boat. Good luck!
@Justowner
@Justowner 10 ай бұрын
are you saying air needs to flow through the interior wall so that it can make sure the hull side has air flow? Or that region needs to be fully sealed to stop humid air getting in?
@bkluex5818
@bkluex5818 10 ай бұрын
@@Justowner You should have a sufficient ventilation of the space between the hull/outer wall and the interior wall. In theory you can seal it completely, but this will never last long, because all materials are more or less permeable. Specially in areas with high humidity and temperature gradients between inside and outside you have to consider the dew point. And on a boat you cannot use thick insulations (larger 15 cm) to keep the dew point in the insulation layer like you do it in a conventional building.

ChatGPT: Please tell me if there is a concept like animal hoarding but for boats While there isn't a specific term like "animal hoarding" for boats, the behavior of accumulating and keeping an excessive number of boats or watercraft can be considered a form of hoarding. This behavior is often related to the psychological condition known as hoarding disorder, where individuals have persistent difficulty parting with possessions, leading to excessive accumulation. Boat hoarding, if it reaches a level where it becomes problematic, can result in similar consequences as animal hoarding. These consequences may include overcrowding of harbors or storage facilities, neglect of boats due to the inability to properly maintain or care for them, financial strain, and negative impacts on the individual's well-being and living conditions. It's worth noting that boat enthusiasts or collectors who have multiple boats but can afford and adequately maintain them may not be considered hoarders. The term "boat hoarding" would generally apply to cases where the behavior becomes excessive and problematic, interfering with the hoarder's daily functioning and causing distress. It's important to approach this topic with sensitivity, as hoarding disorders are recognized mental health conditions that often require professional help and support. If you or someone you know is struggling with hoarding behaviors related to boats or any other possessions, it's advisable to seek assistance from a mental health professional or support organization experienced in hoarding disorder. Just saying :D
@kilomoana83

Ok.....trying to get a more positive term out of it. I like it: Certainly! If we're looking for a term to describe an individual who possesses a significant number of boats in a positive and commercial manner, we could use "marine aficionado" or "nautical connoisseur." These terms highlight the person's expertise and passion for boats, suggesting a deep appreciation and knowledge in the realm of boating. They convey a sense of admiration for the individual's collection while maintaining a positive and sophisticated tone.

Use the foam sandwich to create the external and internal walls and roof on the barge. The sandwich is light and so strong. Minimum steel framing needed. Just cut the holes for doors and windows. An advantage is everything is insulated..Get your mechanical engineer to do the design.

those screws are touching the steel directly so, the ice will form on the screws now. if it was me.. i'd figure out a way to make them not have direct contact with the metal frame. if it were me, i'd take the boards down and bore the hole in the frame bigger so i could incert one of those plastic anchors people use for drywall and other stuff. and reattach the ceiling using those plastic anchors because it would have plastic between the 2 pieces of metal. and it's not like your plastic ceiling will be heavy to hold up.

Nice work and interesting trip. Thanks for sharing. :-) I mentioned this before, but I am reminded every time I see you moor a boat alongside the big boat... Sure seems to me it would be good and useful to have a walkable area around the perimeter of the big boat. Currently you have the cabin structure out to the edge of the big boat. How will you tie boats on the sides of the big boat if there is no place to stand on the big boat? If it were me, I would consider making the cabin 36" narrower than the boat, and have 18" of walkable area down both sides. Cheers! :-)
