This Waterman's Ideal #3 pen was a gift from Chrisrap52, and my first vintage fountain pen ever! Here I'm just showing some of the basic features and operation of the pen.
Some of the music in this video came from Hooksounds! If you're looking for music for your videos, you might want to check them out (and help support my channel): www.hooksounds.com/ref/jmatth...

Ha! I'm glad that you finally got a chance to watch it 🙂 It's still my only vintage pen, but it has prompted me to start looking for pens at local antique/junk shops and flea markets. No luck yet.

@@thewetpen When I first started collecting in the 70s, vintage was easy to find. Dealers had no references to determine prices. By the 90s, I stopped looking as they were harder to find, prices increased. Learned to enjoy the ones I had. Your journey has started.

Yeah I always remember lever fillers from Tom and Jerry too!! And I believe it's a celluloid..the colors remind me of green olives haha..it writes beautifully.

It sorta strikes me as celluloid too, but I'm not certain.

Holy cow! Those Tom and jerry episodes are actually the thing that got me interested in fountain pens! I've never heard anybody reference those episodes too :D

@@DavidGarcia-te5vy Ha! It's amazing how much we learn from childhood cartoons.... probably also the first time that I heard the Strauss' "On the Beautiful Blue Danube" (Tom playing the piano)... not to mention the Barber of Seville in Bugs Bunny :-)

6:30 namiki black is one of pilot's most lubricated inks. That's why it comes standard with almost all their pens.

Looking around on YT, learning about flex nibs... Wait a minute! I recognize that voice! Sounds just like the guy who made, hands down, KZbin's very best lens reviews, when I was into Canon EF lenses. 🙂

Ha! Thanks 😊 I'm still making photography related videos too, although I had to slow down on that front during covid. Mostly making Sony related stuff, now, though.

I had forgotten about that Tom & Jerry introduction to FPs. Nice Waterman gift. A bit of history. Vintage pens are addicting. Done inks are not “ideal” for those old rubber sacs. Aloha

Loved the review! I have, not a vintage Waterman, but an Oxford-Wahl from the late 1930s with a very similar resin, and identical filling system -- lever and sac. 14k italic stub grind nib, which I wonder if it wasn't original. A delightful writer. ... I have also a Fountain Pen Revolution Himalaya V.2 with an ultraflex nib that looks very similar to the nib on the Click you gifted. The nib must by now be despairing of training me to its use.

Ahh yes, I have several Fountain Pen Revolution pens with the same type of nib, and some Kanwrites with similar nibs to the Click (Kanwrite makes all of these nibs, of course). Oddly enough, the Kanwrite ultra-flex nibs that I have that are branded as Kanwrite are slightly thicker and not quite as flexy. I like them all, though.

A very good overview of the Waterman. I have an ebonite body Waterman from the 1940's that has been restored but the feed was not salvageable. Still it is a beautiful, working pen. Hope your pen will work well. I also hope your experience with the Click President is also favorable. I appreciate your reviews as I do with Chris's.

Weird question - what causes the bubbly/rough line edges on Rhodia? Is it the smoothness of the paper? I get the same sort of effect on Oxford Optik, and would love a paper that gives completely smooth, flat line edge!
@thewetpen
@thewetpen 10 ай бұрын
I'm not really sure. I've always thought that it had more to do with the absorption rate of the paper, with some areas sucking up ink more quickly and other areas the ink staying more on top of the paper... but I only think that because papers like Cosmo Air Light (where there's almost no absorption, and there are slow dry times) give me much smoother edges. But I think of Optik as also being pretty non-absorbent, so it may just be the texture of the surface. Good question.
