Hey friends! Today, I bring you WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT. Thank you to everyone who submitted their requests; I am so humbled by the engagement I see on my youtube and instagram despite being the little baby channel that I am! In this video, I hope to serve you some bouldering realness as I struggle through these little mini challenges up on the wall :)
How's it going?? It's been a minute since I uploaded, and I apologize, but DANG if bouldering content isn't hard to film!! Especially when my gym is so crowded that I can't just flash out my camera and start chatting with it :)
I've been doing well myself! Work hasn't been too stressful and the prospect of some outdoor trips (!!!) has me in high spirits.
Hope you're having an amazing week so far. What's going on with you and your life tho!! Let me know in the comments below and I'd love to say hey :--)

All songs are by my boi Cameron and his band Ginger Root! I do not know him personally, but I have fangirled aggressively AT him both on his youtube and in person after his shows. Contrary to popular belief, I did NOT attend a Mac Demarco show just to stalk Gabe and Matt (of aforementioned band) and ask for their pictures.
The songs, in order, are Mahjong Room, Hazel Street, and Two Step. They can be found on his new record, Mahjong Room, which is full of ridiculously funky stuff, so please show your support and give it a listen!!

that was a really good attempt with the bat hang! I would be too scared to try it. do your shoes have a good amount of rubber on the top? that might help with more grip. also ill def be following your insta! I feel like I should make a climbing acct too - I hate spamming my normal acct with boulders hahaha
@JenniferLangen
@JenniferLangen 5 жыл бұрын
Right!! That's why I made the second account in the first place. Like, my high school friends don't need to see entire training montages on my story... do they? And yeah I feel like my shoes have decent amount of rubber but I was actually trying to engage my ankle more than the middle or toe of my foot -- could definitely try that next time!! :-)

I‘ve stumbled across your videos just a couple of weeks ago, but I really, really like the style you create them in. The explanations, the music, the climbs - 10/10! Also, for Bathangs you don‘t want to hang from your toes, but try to have your weight hang from you toes‘ first knuckles (or the part of your climnbing shoe where the rubber part ends and is replaced with leather). Another sidenote: cuteness 10/10 for the campusing. Gotta start somewhere ;)
@JenniferLangen
@JenniferLangen 5 жыл бұрын
Woooooww good tips!! Had no idea I could engage my toe knuckles like that... And haha yay could def use style points for campusing to make up for my lack of strength

For bat hangs and toe hooking in general, it's generally best to try and straighten out your whole leg before you load it with weight or drop into it as slowly as possible. It's usually not actually lacking ankle strength and it's more just the sudden load being more than. I like to think of it in terms of catching a hold dynamically vs going to the next hold statically. It also feels much more controlled and less scary.

Hey cool Video. What helps to get better withe bat hangs is to learn to trust your feet. Play withe easy problems and make up your owne route. Hange withe not the full wheight. I hope you know what I mean. (My english skill is on a low point) :D

Hey Jenn, if you decide to keep on training on the campus board i'd recommend to keep your feet on the wall for the beginning. way less stress on the fingers - and way bigger succession (?) rate, yay! Thats how I've seen it in a couple of videos and when I tried it, it felt way better on my fingers. also I believe it trains the range of motion the way you might train pull ups by doing negatives :)
@JenniferLangen
@JenniferLangen 5 жыл бұрын
omg i completely didn't even think of that! i'm going to try that next time. i also read somewhere (after i published the video) that the best time to practice campusing is at the beginning of a session and not the end... still trying to figure it out!! thank you so much for the tip, i'm going to the gym right now so i can try it out for myself :-)

Haha, thats the spirit! Well yeah, I've seen or read the same and it makes sense to hop on the board when you're still fresh... but I wanna do all the fun boulders! And if I have to decide I prefer to neglect the training area xD

I've been studying for end of run tests this week and this was a welcome break :) Probably a good call going on the slab with the mono challenge. I think the middle finger is generally chosen since it's the strongest single finger, but still easy to get hurt if you're not properly warmed up and/or overdo it!
@JenniferLangen
@JenniferLangen 5 жыл бұрын
For sure!! I also heard that it's better to keep your middle and ring finger together rather than your middle and pointer finger together... not sure the anatomical reasoning behind that, but I try to stay on the safe side wherever possible :-)

the muscles that pull your ankle up are the most important to my eye concerning bat hangs without a foot lock hold
@crescentfuze
@crescentfuze 5 жыл бұрын
With the bat hang, first off, never with heels! Which you figured out anyway, but yeah just dig in the toes and try and curl you ankle as best as possible around the hold. For flat shelf type ones, it is just ankle strength to try keep your feet perpendicular to your legs and keep your centre of mass below your feet. To protect yourself if you fall (particularly if you are fully extended or higher up), you want someone to spot so they can stop your head/neck hitting the floor first, in this one though you are still quite bent so you are landing on back which is better than head!

Bat hangs (much like toe hooks) requires you to straighten out your legs so you can maximize the friction caused by your shoes, the hold, and the downward pull (gravity). That's a way to 'stick' yourself without falling. The move may require some core tension as well as you want to angle yourself directly under the hold. You're at a decent start. Keep at it and you'll definitely get it! Good luck :)

Super cool channel, it's fun watching you progressively get better. And remind me of all my ups and downs with climbing. I was thinking you should try to get a little bit of an angle on the clips of climbing. So there's more depth to the walls and holds. An by changing the angles it will keep people coming back because it's different. Oh yeah, I haven't seen you talk about breathing. It helps with everything. ( the head game to even your pump ) Can't wait to see what's next and don't forget to have fun!

Jeremy Hissom hey, thanks so much! i love changing up the angles of the climbs, as i’m the one who’s filming myself, it can sometimes be hard to film myself in an interesting way. but it’s also nice being able to control everything just the way i like it! i’m gonna try to keep getting better and better for the future, again, thanks so much for the support :-)

Nice video, the easiest way to get into a bat hang is to hang arms extended (palms backwards like you were doing) and feet down facing away from the wall. lift your feel up while squeezing your core to get one foot and then the other in place. Really set yourself putting as much weight on the feet as possible with core tight. The let go with one hand and then second (don't move down yet). When only supported by your feet start going down by releasing tension from your abs nice and slow until you reach the hold with your hands.
@nzivelin
@nzivelin 5 жыл бұрын
one last thing, try and keep your center of weight directly under your feet and the hold, any shifting to the side will make feet slide off
