Thanks for the personal insight. My Dad was a Ford Mechanic for over 40 years and taught me numerous “tricks” of the trade. My brother and I kept him very busy in our early driving years wrecking cars and them repairing them. His most common response was “ What the hell did you do? I’ve NEVER seen that before “.😂 He suggested I move up to a 4x4 truck as it probably would fair better than all of my cars. That’s when I bought my first 1976 F250 4x4 Highboy. I still have that truck and the Marti report says it’s 1of 1! So I probably will at some point take out the 14” lift and 3” body lift and restore it to mostly as it was when I first purchased it. I could write a book on the things that happened with just that truck let alone all the cars I had. Thanks Dad! He died in 2019 and I miss him and his knowledge every day.

Oh my a 14" lift! Wow, that is way too much for me haha. Jr mint is as high as I would ever want to go to be honest. It seems like most people have a story, guess thats why we still love em right?

@@DentsideDepot The guys I hung out with and went wheeling with were always trying to out lift each other. Plus the biggest tires, and never thought about why we chewed up axels and transfer cases. Eventually we all sold our 19 x44 x16.5 Gumbo Monster Mudders and went to 38’s. I broke far less parts with the smaller tires and still had lots of fun.

Thank you for sharing your story. We never know how much time we get here. What an important reminder to take every opportunity we can to invest time with those we love. Glad your dad left you with the love of trucks to remember him by; my dad did the same for me, and nearly 30 years later, I’m still fixing them up, now with my son. Semper Fi.

I have a similar story I’ve shared with other YT content creators. I moved away from home in ‘94 and my dad and I purchased a 1972 ford F100 for $1200 with 35000 or miles (pedals proved it). It needed all freeze plugs replaced and new tires. Did the basic tune up and that’s it. 302 did alright with all my belongings in the back as I drove off to college. Sold it 4 years later and I will always regret it. He wasn’t too happy with me either!

Welp, thats the way it goes in many instances. This one unfortunately just completely rotted out because we used it for my Dad's general contracting business for many years and then later I used it heavily to build my house and load up about 40 full size pine trees where my shop sits today. We absolutely beat the hell out of that truck and it was only the rust that got it. Pretty sure the gear fluid was still original in it as well!

Interestingly similar story as mine with a twist. 87/88 my dad and I bought a 69 f250 and stripped it down and painted it right as I was about to turn 16 we finished it. I was so proud of the work we did on that truck and sure it would be mine. Well he sold it shortly after. And instead we have basically no relationship 35 years later. Except i carried the love of Ford trucks with me. Military service was my first f100. Anyway great story sir and thank you for your service

Wow thanks for sharing. though I am fortunate to still have my dad, I too have gone back to a place where one of my happiest memories happened, a 78 f25 was part of that memory. Same truck I learned to drive stick on in the driveway, same truck I used to move out. I Took our 78 bronco to graduation. When my father moved a couple years ago, he gave me his dark blue f26 to work on. Obviously it’s the people that make the memory, but these trucks are always there.

Found this video on accident. My dads fighting for his life. We didn't restore a ford truck. But he drove a 95 big6 5 speed forever. And I need one now. This video brought me joy.

my dad and i have a simular story, i helped him work on the family car replacing the heads at the age of 12, my automotive passion started in 1974, at 16 years old i ended up with that 1964 chevy impala...i lost my dad in 2016 from a stroke, but i carried his tradition...he was a roofer by trade and just a year ago i bought a 1976 F-250 as a project truck and i'm still working on it, motor and transmission were fine but everything else was shot, time and money was spent on this truck and i;m currently working on the radius arm bushings, so i can totally understand your passion for ford trucks and family values that you can only get from your parents.

Always crazy that the simplest things fathers do, you remember forever and can alter your life. My dad always talked about his 72' K10 and every time there was a smile on his face! Now here we are both building a 79' Bronco for me. Him right next to me teaching me all he knows. Not a sad story like yours but I felt everything you said. I'm sorry for your loss and appreciate your service!

It’s great you can tell your story! My love of dint sides was growing up in the back seat of a 1975 ford ranger xlt supercab with a 460 c6 . Every weekend around seeding and harvests time my parents would pick my brother and I from school and drive 5hrs to are family farm . Over the years in that truck the memories that were made driving are priceless. It was an old truck but the sound of the engine and over all looks of these trucks are just amazing

I’m a Chevy guy but I love dent sides. Especially 78-9.. my dad bought me my first truck in 1998 from his boss who bought it new. A metallic brown 79 f100 short bed with a 3 speed that had a hurst floor shifter conversion, and a 302. I wish I had that truck today

did a similar thing with my dad in 79.only it was a 70 vw beetle.we both put alot of time into it, he was smart to let me put so much work into it.because i really took good care of it due to my own sweat equity involved.thanks dad.what a way to teach a boy the value of a work ethic, that still pays off to this very day.

Currently I am restoring 2 dentsides with my father and I've loved old trucks since he showed me his "Super Ford" it is a 1977 F-250 Highboy. And my planned daily driver once I turn 16. It is a 1978 F-150 Ranger. And I enjoy everything I do with him.

My dad and myself have worked together on these 73 79 Fords for the last 35 years. I have two 78 and one 79 and he has two 78 and a 78 bronco and multiple part's for these units. He is now 91 and still drives the 78f 250. Very nice story.

Sorry for the loss of your father. Spending time together on a project like that is priceless. I have a lot of great memories from projects with my parents too. My first vehicle when I started driving was my parent's 79' F150 4x4 Custom SuperCab. They bought it in 1980. I still have it, but rust had its way with it. That truck was just about unstoppable.

Great story, mine is slightly different. I am the father 4 my #2 is an active duty Marine. He bought an 83 F100 Explorer with the 300. We started working on it together and went through everything a little at a time. I would only allow him to drive it around the block until we went through everything. He needed to start a landscaping job and make some money to fix the rest. He had no way to get to work that morning and we had a cold snap, when he went to use the defrost that morning smoke started coming through the vents, a mouse nest was in the heater core and the truck went up very quickly, he lost the hole thing. He was devastated and in 5 months he was off to boot camp. Your story brought back some good memories

In 1996 I was 14 years old. My dad had an old dentside my entire life. It had been sitting for a few years and in 2008 after I returned home from the Marine Corps my dad and I charged the battery up, primed the carb and it fired right up. He gifted me that truck and I’d planned to fix it up but his health declined and I lost him in 2011. It’s been a long time coming but restoration is underway and it’s been a lot of fun and even therapeutic. I’m enjoying the process so much I almost don’t want it to end but the end is in sight.

I’ve restored many trucks over the years.Mostly GM trucks , however, I done four 76-79 Ford 4x4’s back in the 90’s that got lots of attention A red 250, a brown 250 , green 150 and a black 150 lariat with red interior. Super cool trucks for sure and tough to find here in flyover country!

From the bottom of my heart, I am sorry for your loss, and thank you deeply for your service sir. I have a 77 1/2 ton 4x4, and driving that truck brings me back to the day of riding in my dad's 75 F250, wanting that truck so bad by the time I was old enough to drive. But unfortunately, she returned to nature long before I turned 16. So I relive those days, every time I turn the key and take my kids for a cruise. I am 47 years old, and fortunate enough for my father to still be here. New subscriber here, and will start watching your library. I also appreciate all old vehicles, but these trucks will always be my favorite. Check my 77 out on my "channel" if you'd like!

I'm looking for a 1978 F-150 Custom. It must have the 300 in line 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree, round headlights, 2 wheel drive, regular cab long bed. This would be like my dad's that he bought me in 78. I wanted dad's truck, but he sold it, and I can't find it. Let me know if you come across a truck. Thanks
