I think swatching is maybe my favorite part of enjoying my collection of inks. I’ve found many ways of doing it, and I love a lot of it very much. I usually wait until I’m streaming to do any swatching, so it sort of motivates me to stream more.

Loved watching how others set up an ink swatch book. As for myself, I couldn't decide. So these days when making an ink swatch, I both add it to a pocket TN notebook as well as a separate card so I can, indeed, sort them by color. Sometimes I am looking for a purple for instance, and then it's easier to go through a bunch of cards vs a notebook. But I do like how the colors in the notebook are such a beautiful mix and in my case show me what colors I was into at that time.. I'm looking forward to seeing more ink and fountain pen videos :)

Ooh, I love that! I’ve been thinking about setting up swatches on cards too - I feel like that would help me to pair up multiple ink colors because I could hold them up side by side. Do you have a certain type of card/set of cards you like? The ones I’ve found in pen shops like the col-o-ring have mixed reviews due to paper quality and how it reacts with the ink, so I’ve held off so far. It makes so much sense though! I do like flipping through the book, so I’ll definitely keep up with that though.

I love this! That Emma leather is so pretty!! 😍I created an insert just for inks recently and it has been the most helpful tool. I should've done it ages ago! My memory last for 2 seconds and I always forget what's inked in my pens, even if used earlier in the day. I need to get that stamp for mine, it really takes it up a hundred notches! Can't wait to see that Goulet order!!

No swatches for me, I know what each of my 7 ink colors looks like, lol. That glass dip pen is gorgeous, I'm sure tempted to spring for one! Usually I end up using an empty fountain pen as a dip pen for a while, before I refill it. Something I've really enjoyed, that I haven't heard you mention, is using two different-colored inks and doing shading. For example: a pen inked up with medium blue ink. Before starting to write, I dip it in my burgundy ink. Then as I write, the color gradually transitions from burgundy to purple to blue. It makes a really special effect for cards, or just when I want something to look extra pretty. Or if I have a pen inked up with black, I can dip it in a lighter color and it'll transition gradually to black. Lots of possibilities! Dipping a filled pen, or not washing a pen before refilling it is a way for me to get more colors from what I have, too.

Ooh! Cool idea! I've got a bunch of sample vials from Pen Chalet I want to try this with.
@JournalSunshine2 жыл бұрын
I've never tried that technique before, but I'm mostly worried that I'll contaminate the ink bottles with other colors -- not sure how the capillary action works, is that something I should be concerned about? Maybe I should pour some ink into another container to try it with.
@AbigailPoirier2 жыл бұрын
@@JournalSunshine That's a good point! I do make sure my nib looks dry before dipping, and it's a quick dip, in and out. But I wouldn't dip a freshly-inked black pen into my light turquoise ink, for sure! A container would be a way to make absolutely sure of no cross-contamination, or sometimes I just dip my nib in a drop of ink that has stuck to the lid of the ink bottle.

Thanks for this one! I've been planning on redoing my ink swatch collection. The current pocket moleskine just wasn't doing it for me, for some of the reasons you talk about. But the rubber stamp is an idea I hadn't thought of, so now I have on on order!

Ooh nice! The only thing I wish I could do that this setup can’t do is move swatches around to pair them together for color combinations. I might work on a second swatch setup, maybe with cards on a ring or something like that.

I swatch in a Midori MD B6 Slim notebook. Also planning on getting a tomoe river notebook for currently inked lists. They’re my two most used papers, so it makes sense to swatch/put lists on those. I just do the swatch and write the ink name next to it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy

I love that! I bought a few MD notebooks in B6 slim too and I've been sketching in one of them but haven't started journaling/collaging yet. Excited to try it out for that since I've seen so many beautiful ones here on KZbin!

Aww, thank you! Sadly the capped Moonman glass dip pen is no longer available. I got it from JetPens a while ago and it doesn’t look like they have anything similar now. Not sure if it’s discontinued or if it’s available somewhere else, but it’s a bummer because I like that I can cap it.

I recently got a really cheap fountain pen (about $2) and been enjoying the experience so far. I done a lot of sketching with it. I'm kinda scared of getting more expensive one (the one i really want is the kaweco iridescent pearl) cause i'm concern about clogging and such. how do you prevent it? and how to fix when this happen?
@JournalSunshine2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had a fountain pen clog yet, but I clean them pretty often and don’t let them sit for more than a few days without using them. They make special cleaning flush for when regular water isn’t working, but I haven’t needed to buy that yet since my usual method has been working where I only ink a few at a time, use them regularly, and clean them when the ink runs out.
